Well, there goes the permanent transfiguration theory I guess, but still, what about Voldemort's metal shield, or even back to the significant conjured mass. Dumbledore's chair, while temporary, was still a working chair. Even if they disappear, while they remain in existence, it can be assumed that they are tangible physical objects, the same as any other, and if one can conjure the objects hard enough to defend against an AK, then the object conjured would work just as effectively as the naturally occuring one, if the conjuration is done correctly. The difficulty of such is IMO the reason that it is so seldom seen.

So if a wizard were to conjure X object, and another were to tranfigure it into Y object, does it still have the property of being made of "nothing" and dissapear or would it remain in the state wizard #2 changed it into?

Also do Dumbledore's "conjurations' equate to producing a vacuum and tranfiguring the air itself?

I always loved the idea of changing vegetables into junk food and candy, then after being eaten having it revert back into actual nourishment.

Hmm... Yeah, Voldemort's shield in OotP pretty much proves conjured objects can block spells. And since he was expecting an AK (you do not seek to kill me , Dumbledore?), most likely it can block that too.

    Point to you, afrojack.

I always assumed conjured items could block an AK. Even though they were created from nothing, they still became something that was solid. It may not be permanent, but while it's there I see no reason why it shouldn't be able to block the Killing Curse.

Yeah, but there isn't really any good reason for them to be temporary either.

True. There isn't a reason for why they couldn't be permanent. Out of curiosity, has anyone read a good explanation in a fanfic anywhere?

I think Fiendfyre, along with the Patronus Charm are probably the cleverest spells in HP. Fiendfyre seems to be her way of reconnecting with true wizardry, since it seems to be exceedingly easy to cast (Goyle, or was it Crabbe?), but extremely difficult to control and successfully utilize. Plus anyone who can make fearsome beats made out of all-incinerating fire is just BAMF on principle. Patronus Charm I just happen to like since it seems to be a spell that takes strength of will and a considerable bit of magical talent. IMHO, I think it sounds better cast aloud. A patronus coming out silently seems anticlimactic to me, haha.

The only fic I remember that had an explanation to that said that the duration of the conjured object is directly linked to the casters strength. i think it was The Dark Witch and the Necromancer, but I'm not sure about that.

Personally I think the way the autor explains it, is a very reasonable one. Just think what being able to permanently conjure any object you want would mean for the economy of the wizarding world.

I personally think a conjured object shouldn't be able to stop the Unforgivables because they are unblockable and a conjured object is only a manifestation of the magic of a wizard. A summoned object on the other hand should be able to block them, since that fact is canon proven. You see Dumbledore animate things, but he doesn't conjure stuff in the ministry.
If he could simply conjure an object to block an Unforgivable do you really think Fawkes would have blocked it?

Myself, I can't decide if I like the Mind Arts(Occlumeny/Legilimency) or Vows(Unbreakable Vow) best. They both open up an unbelievable amounts of possibilities.

    Nu-uh. Just the Killing Curse.

This would explain what determines the length of time the object stays in existence (I would say the skill with which it was conjured) but doesn't explain why it disappears in the first place.

You probably need to consciously concentrate on the object. The difficulty of the conjuration should also account for the object itself. It is probably much harder to conjure a chair than a mere box at the same size, because it is more complex. Also, a big box is harder to conjure than a small box.

    Magic makes sense.

    Hmm, must've mixed that up.

A good explanation would probably be, that the magical energy declines over time, which would also fit in very well with the skill theory (The more exactly the pattern of wandmovement in conjuring the object, the longer the pattern can hold the magic, or something like that.)
