Sorrows, if shipping the damn thing wouldn't cost the same as buying the parts, I'd offer to build it for you. But US -> You shipping is probably going to be hella expensive and slower than molasses with a cold.

Logrus, Breed, Militis - nice try, but if you'd look at her original post, you'd see that she wants to game on the computer.

So XP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Linux in that area. There are good and bad about both, Linux is just slightly better because it's open source. But I had a plethora of glitches in my last install of Ubuntu.

I'm sorry if I don't consider Tremulous the epitome of gaming. :(

Quite so, as as she wishes to be able to play modern games XP is the only way to go. As far as I can tell Assassin's Creed (which I seem to be using as a yard stick recently) won't run on Linux and even if you manage it it doesn't seem to work to well.

As for Vista, well I think Tehan said all that needs to be said.

I'm Sure they build it for you considering its a package. I think its like Dells website, you pick and choose your parts, they put it together and ship it off to you.

They ship it from here I think:

    Cyberpower PC UK
    Unit 270C Queensway South,
    Team Valley Trading Estate,
    Gateshead,
    Newcastle Upon Tyne,
    NE11 0SD
    UK

I would suggest giving them a call and asking them any questions you have though... here's the numbers off the website:

    Sales Contact: 0800-019-0863, 0800-612-0279
Customer Service & Tech Support Contact: 0870-389-9329, 0870-766-8592.
    Email: support@cyberpowersystem.co.uk

    Luke

Edit: I dont know what would be better, it doesnt change the price, only difference quad vs duo

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8500 CPU @ 3.16GHz 1333FSB 6MB L2
    Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 1066FSB 8MB L2

    Anyone know?

I have to agree, that looks like a pretty decent deal. I know what I would go with, and so does Sorrow, but that does look pretty interesting. :p

What is a limited warranty? Never really had that clarified to me.

Linux screwed up my MBR. I kept on getting GRUB error 17 code when I tried to boot up... Eventually had to insert my XP disk and run a "fixmbr" from recovery console.

Is it normal to have that type of problem?

That's not a bad build, although I'm not sure about the P31 mobo or the stock PSU.

If I were building a gaming rig with your budget (700 British pounds = $1260.14 according to Google), I'd probably do something like this (and it's really not that difficult to put the parts together. Honest).

    Acer X203Wbd Black 20" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor -- $169.99

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case -- $39.99

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 -- $189.99

    Foxconn P45A-S LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard -- $129.99

    mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) -- $129.99

    EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB -- $164.99

    OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI 600W ATX12V Power Supply -- $99.99

    ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink -- $49.99

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -- $59.99

Logitech G11 Silver & Black USB Standard Gaming Keyboard -- $51.99

    Logitech MX518 2-Tone 8 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB + PS/2 Wired Optical Gaming-Grade Mouse -- $35.99

    LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA -- $24.99

    Logitech G51 155 watts RMS 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers -- $109.99

Subtotal: $1,257.87 (Not including about $135 in mail-in rebates).

You could also save money by sticking with the stock heat sink and buying a cheaper keyboard/mouse combo and cheaper speakers.

I had two 8800GT 's in my old computer, great cards in my opinion but how do they compair the the newer 9 series cards out now? I havent really been keeping up lately since I decided to quit spending all my money on upgrading my PC.

Also I dont see the need for 4GB of ram...

4 gigabytes of RAM will help Vista run smoothly. It's a must for Vista Ultimate. It's good for XP too. People once said they didn't see the need for 256 megabytes of RAM, now look where we are.

For a gaming PC I would suggest getting XP, for a general use computer I would suggest... also getting XP.

Vista = Shit, I know its on my Dell XPS laptop which will be changing soon. Also not 100% on this since I usually kept to 2GB of RAM since I found it made OC'in easier, but doesnt XP reconise only 3GB of RAM?
