I didn't read it at all. I didn't even see it >_<

 

At least they were developed to an extent. And at least they showed up for long enough to interact with the main characters. They didn't play a huge role in the story before or after, but at least they were present; you could understand their personalities, and while none of them had as much backstory as any of Team 7, they were presented as people, not images. Past the time skip, I haven't even see Kishimoto even attempt to show how the characters changed; I can barely even remember the last time a character other than Naruto played a roles in the story. And even when the characters come on, he doesn't bother to flesh out their personalities at all; they play themselves out, and leave.

Not only that, but even as the others fought, whether or not it had any significance, it added some dimension to the story. Each character used different strategies and techniques, and you were able to compare and contrast. They all had their strengths and weaknesses, and you could see how the characters would match up against each other. If Naruto would let a few of his old friends help him out slightly, even that would reduce a bit of the mindless repetition of the story.

But he just doesn't. It doesn't matter how much he does with them, he should at least develop the story in a way that gives more than just Naruto and Sasuke as characters which matter. And he should flesh out several of his old characters before bring so many new ones to the forefront. Even if he is tired of his story, he should at least make some effort to show the progression of time. This way he at least doesn't completely consign the story to the dustbin. He shouldn't dedicate himself to a huge epic if he's only going to get bored and screw it over.

Hmmm...spoilers are out. Not sure if anybody else has posted them, so I'll go ahead with that. I don't quite know if I want to believe them yet. It seems like what I feared would happen has indeed happened.

It seems like Sasuke defeats the Oxopus in a single stroke with a one-shot Amaterasu or some new power (not sure which). Couple of men of the Lightning country go to inform the Raikage (Killerbee's brother) that an Uchiha and Akatsuki have captured the 8-tails. Naruto has completed his oil-sage-training and will work without oil it seems. He receives a book from Fukasaku that was apparently Jiraiya's first work - there are multiple translations for the title; the most used one being "natural jutsus". Looks like he's now contemplating trying out "that jutsu".

 

Chapter wasn't as big a pile of fail as I thought...Oh well.

The Naruto Data-books have been out since yesterday. Some interesting new stats.

Neji had his stats come out as well. Overall he has 52 points...The same as Sakura and Naruto. Sasuke has 63 points.

Also I can't be bothered to post it but Jiraiya and Itachi are level at 71 points. Tsunade and Orochimaru just one point behind at 70. Also it should be noted that Jiraiya has less points in genjutsu than a little blond in orange we all know. And between the Sannin it is Oro that is the seal expert, not Jiraiya.

Note, this is all before Senjutsu training.

 

I missed this the first time but when Naruto first started sage training, they said that those statues were the remains of Ninja who failied to balance the sage chakra and became frogs.

In 414, one of the frogs said that one of those statues was their ancestor.

Either this was a mistake or the summoned animals, like the frogs, are actually the descedents of ninjas who tried and failed to use a shortcut to become sages.

If this is true, what about the bijuu? Are they also ninjas, or descendants of ninjas, who failed to balance something similar to nature chakra?

I was mildly shocked that this wasn't the pile of fail I was expecting, I was kinda hoping Karin would die, but hey there is always next week.

 

I'm now beginning to feel that Naruto will find out who his parents were. Or should at the very least, be told about them by Fukasaku. And maybe the 'that jutsu' conundrum can now be solved...

The Kushina bit seems interesting, and with that statement it seems to me that it's heavily implied that she will be alive. If she were to be dead, Kishimoto probably wouldn't have even mentioned her.

 

She's still an important part of the story seeing as her past hasn't been fully revealed yet other than vague answers. I'm guessing the past would be revealed when naruto finds out about his past.

 

Was anyone else disgusted by the answer to the Uchiha/Hyuuga spawn question? Besides the lack of knowledge of genetics, it goes against the established backstory and are we expected to believe no one has tried this before? Jeez.

The Sharingan/Byakugan thing is total bullshit, I agree. I mean, hell, you'd think the kid would have one or the other, not both - also, given that Byakugan is pretty much something all the Hyuuga can activate while Sharingan doesn't seem to be, you'd think the bloodline they activate would be the Byakugan nine times out of ten, as some sort of dominance thing.
