Renting a vent server for 50ppl would be about $13 per month with the highest quality codecs and bandwidth and the setup is ridiculously easy. You can link onto the server just like IRC, but I don't know how to register users automatically (from the forum registry).

As far as I know, once someone is registered (registering on the server isn't required, you can just have a server-wide password), you can link them on as themselves from the forum. You can also have a 'Vent Monitor' on the forum which tells how many people are logged on.

You can choose whether to use 'guests' or not. If you do, then whenever someone logs on to the server using the global password, they'll have a [Guest] tag next to their name. You can go into the Edit Server section and register that specific login name with a unique password so only that person can log in with that name (this will remove the 'guest' tag).

You can create however many channels you want, and you can set it up so that when someone logs in they're sent to a specific channel and you can set it to auto-mute them if you want.

You can also add people to groups (you can create whatever groups you want based on whatever you want) and give rights to channels individually or as a group.

And I'm all for a DLP vent server. Though I feel we're going to be a bit less vindictive (and in some cases a LOT less strange) when we're using our voices instead of our keyboards. Anonymity breeds cruelty and all that.

 

No. I know it'll still be rude and cruel as hell, I just think the words will be toned down a bit.

People speak a lot more freely when all they have to do is type and push 'enter'. the more human interaction, the less disgusting the words will be.
