Uh buddy, I think you posted in the wrong thread. This is The Lie I've Lived. You're talking about Turn Me Loose.

So after reading all the other works by Jbern, I turned my eye on The Lie I've Lived. And I have to say, just like all the others, I loved it. Its a great AU of the Goblet of Fire and I can't wait to see what comes out next. I am actually torn between which I want to be put out sooner, but probably got to go with Turn Me Loose (SHOW US BABA YAGA!).

Anyway, I really enjoyed this story as well and can't wait to see more.

I think Jim mentioned that a chapter of TLIL is the next one due to be released. He tends to toggle between the two, along with writing original fiction in between.

I expect it will come out this Friday, but then again jbern has overshot his update estimations a few times.

And on FF.net. Much slower pace then other chapters, but still top notch.

Interesting, although I thought it a bit anti-climactic after that cliff hanger. Oh well. I look forward to Sirius' hunt for mercenaries and the next set of duels. Although you seemed to forget the Irish jig...

The chapter didn't conclude with the end of the dance, rather HJ and Fleur's dance ending, so I would think it's still probably happening. It would make for an interesting turn, something major happens at the end of the Yule Ball, much like where something major happened at the end a seemingly innocuous event such as what happened at the conclusion of the Knowledge Bowl.

I'm quite fond of where this Dumbledore is heading. Doesn't make excuses for his actions, doesn't try to guilt people into feeling remorse for blameless action. It seems like he'll be a genuine asset to Harry when the War begins.

Nice detail with regard to Veela genealogy, which is something I had never considered before, but makes much sense with your explanation.

While certainly not an exciting or action packed chapter, I vastly enjoyed the character interactions it, which seemingly have paved the way for the rest of the story.

I look forward to the next chapter greatly.

    Another good chapter.

Few interesting points there. Really didn't see HJ telling truth to Dumbledore at this time.

Well, I hope Jbern will have enough time and inspiration to bring another chapter.

BTW Jbern don't forget Amazon links for your original books once they are out there.

So you missed all of our Fleur/Veela-debates in the various threads? ;)

But I like it; it's a nice original twist on the topic I haven't seen before. It takes the idea of 'the child of a Veela will be always be a female and a Veela', (which explaines why there are still full-blooded Veelas today) and, combined with the Muggle vs. wizard thing, leaves still room for mixed-blooded Veelas. The former idea occured to me, the latter is completely new.

In fact, I'll say that this theory comes very close to being my favourite one; en par with my more radical approach of postulating the existance of only full-blooded Veelas.

...yeah, but we don't want another debate, probably, so I'll leave it at that. Otherwise, caught a few spelling mistakes (e.g. Wizengamut, Giest), but nevertheless it was enjoyable.

Oh, and I agree in regards to your Dumbledore. It's a version I don't see that often nowadays (since Manipulative!Dumbledore is part of the Indy!Harry-construction-kit -- well, that, and Canon), so it's a nice change; it works well here IMO.

BTW, will there be more fall-out from Harry's statement last chapter coming, or is it indeed as Dumbledore said, not enough to do anything official?

I think Nephilim covered everything I was going to mention; Dumbledore's 'canon-ness' & kindness, Veela 'background & genealogy' & the character interactions.

While rage filled conversations, or constantly flirtacious chatter is nice to read in stories, a simple, but elegant conversation amongst several characters is needed from time to time & as always, is a pleasure to read.

I'm hoping this isn't the end of the Yule Ball scene, as it does seem a bit short, but to be fair a lot has been covered, so it's not all that bad. Fleur does seem to be... 'forgiving' Harry, towards the end of the chapter anyhow, still, good mention & use of James knowledge there.

Also, I like the whole Harry/Neville relationship that's building up; If you do sequel, I hink it can & will prove quite useful, Harry having Neville on his side.

Eagerly awaiting the next update to TLIL or TML.

    Something just came to me.

"I have the son's power, the mother's blood protections, and the father's memories. Even so, it might not be enough."

    TLIL, Chapter 16

Harry James Potter, the Holy Trinity?

I like... though I hink for now we can beg for a sequel & THEN, a Trilogy..

That would be pety freakin' sweet though.. HBP would be a much better Book, as would DH... Heh, not bad... but that would be 4 books..

    Ah well, here's hoping?

Nice chapter, but fairly slow paced. As others have mentioned before, I really liked the characterization of Dumbledore as someone who realizes his mistakes and his flaws and is also willing to try to fix them. The origin of pure-blooded Veela was an interesting tidbit as well. Looking forward to the next update.

Abou the books being better? Yes.

HBP was, in all respects, a god awful book.

DH had it's moments & while probably not the 'epic' 7th book we'd have hought it'd be, or expected, it still seemed lack lustre to me. Even if Jbern followed DH using this perspective, twisting it in his own litle ways depending upon the previous 2/3 stories, it would be better.

Can't say I've read many, in fact, any Seventh Year fics other than 'DA Hogwarts' one with Neville & the DA, which was superbly done.

    *Facepalm*

Fuck =\. That's what I get for being awake 47 hours.. my bad.

Really can't be bothered to go back & edit my post, but either way, a trilogy would be awesome. A Trinity though, would be pretty damn good too, if pulled off correctly.

New chapter was good, I think all that has to be said has been said.

Enjoyed the kind Dumbledore scene, especially the line "I am simply a man," it humanises Dumbledore, rather than making him the manipulative old man we see in a large number of fan fictions or the omniscient construct of canon. This was one of the highlights of this chapter that stood out.
