Anyone else think that this chapter and perhaps the ones to follow will be the starting point for many missingnin!Naruto stories to come?

You have two disgruntled advisors with influence, Pein tearing apart Konoha in search of Naruto, and a scheming Danzo who is the only one who is going to know why Naruto is not going to show.

You can't get a better canon launching point for that kind of story.

Just wish that was the direction canon will take.

More like a "Naruto coming back to find a completely destroyed village" kind of thing.

Looks like Pein's eyes really are stronger then the Sharingan or any other eyes out there. That is some very powerful eyes. No wonder it's part of the legend.

Spoilers are out.

Kakashi on the cover.

Konan turns into papers, asking around in the village.
Konan: Where is Uzumaki Naruto?
Ninja: I won't tell

Scene changes.
Pain goes around asking for Naruto's whereabouts while killing bunch of ninja.

On top of the Hokage statues, Tsunade summons slug and let her treat the injured villagers.

Scene changes to Kakashi.
Attack fails. Pain takes off his clothes and reveals himself as Asura-like (with many faces and hands) The surprised Kakashi is sucked towards Pain. He immediately stabilizes himself.

Kakashi: (So this is his ability! One man can't win against him. I need to call for back-up).

At that moment, his abdomen is pierced by Pain. But it's just a raiton kagebunshin.
Then two giant hands appear behind Pain.

"One down, Kakashi."
Chouji and his dad show up.

Kakashi climbs out from rubble.
"Actually I'd also completed my preparation. But still thanks for the help."

Seems Pain's abilities are being slowly revealed. Still, good to see Kakashi last this long in a fight against Pain. Though considering the fact that he is a main character, its not all that surprising.

Best character design in Naruto? I think so.

Heh, yeah. What's the betting he gets up again in spite of being crushed by Chouza? Though, my friend once said that Akatsuki members only die after they have lost/taken off their cloak during a fight (exception: Hidan). Since the chap has lost his cloak he might be done.

Finally, I understood why Tsunade had a Slug contract...they've got some sort of ability to heal or atleast transmit healing chakra over large distances.

He'll get back up. Beast Pain gave Jiraiya a pretty damn good fight before he went into sage mode. Besides, Pain's strength is that he just keeps getting back up unless you disrupt those chakra rods...somehow. Then he just makes a new body.

Asura Pain is too epic to get beaten like that :(

Ah I agree...though there was a discussion in one of the other forums...Naruto Manga Returns I think it was, where there was a discussion about how one of the Pains has a regeneration/restoration ability where health and life was concerned. The argument was that - "in the J-man/Pain fight the three Pains downed by Jiraiya did not get back up until after that new (4th) Pain body got there so they got up because he healed/restored them". So there might be a thing where proximity of this healer-mode body is important...

But if those chakra-rod things are indeed as broad in their scope and we imagine then the above argument is moot. And ofcourse we get to see more Asura!Pain...

Next Chapter Spoilers..

First is the scene where Chouji and his dad and Kakashi try to confirm whether the Asura is dead.

Then Kakashi explains the battle plan he came up with based on Pain's ability.

Apparently it's the ability to use attractive force.

Father and son fighting side by side, the battle begins.

The battle content is too complicated, hence omitted. But in the end, the Akimichis manage to capture the God.

Then just as Kakashi is charging forward with a Raikiri the Asura body appears to block the attack.

Everyone: He still can move? Kakashi (Can I make it?)

Naruto fuses with Fukasaku.

Pain: Of course I(he? not sure who's talking) can still move.
Kakashi: Is it too late?

Turning around, he sees Akimichis and the other back-up ninja have been blown away.

Pain: Seems like it's not kagebunshin this time. Then die! (not translated)

Picking up a nail from the ground he throws it at Kakashi (=_=)

Pain: Feel the pain!

Kakashi: From this distance, I can't dodge it...

And with this chapter it certainly looks like Kakashi's at his end. Shame we'll have to wait an extra week or two for the next one.

More importantly, it certainly looks like Naruto has his work cut out for him now that Danzou is making a move, Kakashi and probably Tsunade are going to buy the farm, and mad scientist!Nagato is pretty much confirmed.

Somehow I don't see this manga ending for a decent stretch of time.

The are only two ways that I can figure Naruto being able to affect whats happening in the village is currently:

1: Uppon mortal injury the messenger toad dispelled and they find his body on toad mountain, and realize the shit has hit the fan.

2: The messenger team or the eight tails passes near by. (highly unlikely givin Tsunade said the mountain was a month away.

I think it likely that Naruto will come home to a very different village. If Tsunade dies, and its common knowledge that she 'sent' for Naruto, I woundn't be too suprised if Sakura/the village tries to kill him

First off, it's fairly obvious that Naruto won't be returning during this invasion arc. Danzou's plans couldn't succeed with Naruto present and Kishimoto seems to want that coup to happen.

The village won't try to kill him though. Danzou might, but it's very unlikely that anyone will blame Naruto for his absence once he returns and everything is sorted out. If anything, Danzou will be the one that Naruto and his allies blame which in turn will form a rift between their factions. Naruto is probably going to end up killing Danzou with Sasuke and taking over Konoha himself, after all.

I think you've been reading too much fanfiction. Sakura isn't going to turn on Naruto in any fashion in the manga. They're too close. It's much more likely that she tells Naruto what happened while he was gone and sets him on the path of overthrowing Danzou.

Whether Naruto has to hike it back to Konoha and meets Killer Bee on the way or he returns via unsummoning and is forced out by Danzou's forces, it's almost guaranteed that Naruto will spend some time outside the village in which he can meet up with Killer Bee and possibly Sasuke before the final battles.

Howdy's prediction sounds the most probable. And for some reason, I don't think Kakashi will die either.

Howdy pretty much said it all but one of the things I noticed about this chapter was the epic vibes I was getting, somehting that's been lacking for a loooooooong time.

Like I've said on ADD, I frankly don't think that Kishi and his editors have the collective stones to kill off Kakashi. I'd love for them to prove me wrong, of course.

Not sure if the Danzou takeover can happen with Kakashi still in the village - though if he manages to survive this he'll certainly be in for a lengthy hospital stay.

Maybe Sakura will grab him and escape the village?

At this point in the story it doesn't really matter if Kakashi lives or dies. He's not strong enough to be a real force against the bad guys seeing that both Naruto and Sasuke have surpassed him.

He'll either survive and simply tag along in a support role or he'll die and that will be that.

Not sure if I really want Naruto to the crutch of an experienced mentor around anymore though. It seems to me that it's time for Naruto to do a bit of growing up.
