Or it might be that he actually did kill Rin. After all, in the most recent chapter, we finally get confirmation that Rin is dead.

He quotes something like, "Rin, Obito..." which tells us that they're grouped together--they're both dead. That's confirming something we didn't know before.

Who knows, maybe during the two-year break, Kakashi actually killed his best friend.

 

You actually believe that after all of the teamwork crap that Kakashi was fostering?

I think that if he had a close friend like Rin in the village we would have seen her by now.

We know that you don't have to kill your best friend to activate the MS - you only have to experience a powerful emotional trauma that in both Itachi and Sasuke's cases took the form of a strong sense of loss.

All evidence points to Rin being killed before the start of the story.

 

Now that I think about Kakashi and what's likely to happen in the manga, I kinda want him to live. It'd be epic to see the original Team Seven ride together one last time to overthrow Danzou.

 

Kakashi dying now would feel wrong. He hasn't really done anything. His team (students) has fallen apart, Obito and Rin are "dead", he hasn't really done justice to his sensei... Kakashi still has so much to do. If Kakashi dies, he'll do it like Sarutobi or Minato did, saving the village in some large manner.

Characters like Yamato, Gai, etc. they've fulfulled their roles in the story (even if they deserve to be fleshed out), they can die, but I don't think it's Kakashi's time yet.

 

There's absolutely no way Kakashi's going to die.

I'd bet my life on it.

Anyway, i doubt Kakashi is going to die. A slug to his face, and he would be alright.

The evidence I was referring to was literally everything we know about Kakashi's character.

 

Kakashi dies as he has Hokage potential, Kakashi is taken to be a replacement for the body Chouji's about to demolish, Pain's MadBodyCreatingScientist! is Rin. That is all.

 

I wonder if Naruto will get the fanon treatment and be shunned by his friends and villagers since the attack happened because of him. /me doubts it.

They didn't really need a canon based reason before to write these kind of fics, but now that they have one,...
