Eh, I couldn't stomach the interaction between Harry and Daphne, and really, that Steel Ice Fire Tempest rubbish was more than I could take.

If this was for review, I'd give it a 2/5 at the very most.

Edit: I've skimmed to some of the fight scenes, and it was pretty similar to "Only Enemies"- With the use of uber heavy duty, destructive spells to make up for the lack of detail that engages a reader and draws him into the action.

I see this as a sign of the writer not knowing how to write a proper duel scene. You do not need lame ass uber spells with retarded names to make good fight scene. It's the details that matter. Some of the scenes in Shezza's old fics used to be like this, and when I compare it to those in the Denarian series, the difference is obvious (Even if there is still some uber magic thrown around).

At least it provides some lulz.

Yeah, the Gringotts part was my favourite.

But I agree with the spells.

However, in small doses, it's still fun to watch Harry and Daphne ploughing through anything that moves, especially in the last two chapters (4 & 5). At least he's creative with those uber spells.

I'd like to think it has gotten a bit better (e.g. their interactions), but perhaps I just got more used to it.

...Aren't goblins supposed to be at least partially immune to fire and heat? Isn't that why they work with DRAGONS for crying out loud?

Not in HP canon, as far as I know, you must be thinking about a different series.

Not that I blame you, there are quite a few versions of Goblins running around the multi-verse.

Oh what the hell. Why'd he take it down? Authors deleting their stuff have to be deleted in RL themselves >.< Or was FF.net going all Nazi again? Was it plagiarised or something (then where's the original)?

One thing I noticed that in the latest chapter Harry was suddenly named Shinji (what's a Shinji -- sounds Japanese ... so I dun know nuthing 'bout that, luckily) for about two paragraphs, so did he c/p there?

Anyone knows something here? The story was starting to grow on me, especially with the daily updates ... :(

    Edit:
The profile's still there, but it doesn't say anything about it, either.

Daily updates are suspicious, but there might be an explanation (see below). PM him and ask him why his story vanished.

That made me lol - at the author and at you :D
Were there also two girls named Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley?

The author also wrote a meanwhile complete Evangelion fanfic with 99570 words. And guess who's the main character? Shinji Ikari. Perhaps the author plagiarized himself and used parts or even chapters of his Evangelion fic. Hell, yeah, both universes and storylines are so similar, I would do the same :awesome

Sesc: Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most famous animes. And the author mentioned "Shinji" in the summary of his other fic.

Both universes have nothing to do with each other and I can't picture scenes which he might reuse in a HP fic - except perhaps some angsty teenager stuff and lines like this:

    "Nooo. I can't do it. I just can't. I can't kill anyone. Nononono."

    God fucking dammit.

Yeah, I am with you too here Sesc, I was really starting to enjoy that fic as well. Ugh. :(

The updates were probably the best part about it however.

@Minion: Lol. And no, but there were Daphne and Tracey :awesome So that's why it read so random and much like an AU: He simply took his other fic and substituted the names. Re-usable-plot-that-is-actually-not-re-usable FTW >_>

Though the part with Shinji came completely out of nowhere -- Harry was sitting in the bath, Daphne entered, and suddenly, Harry was Shinji (and broke down crying later ... wait. What? That sounds like what you wrote thar ... but at that point he was already being Harry again ... /confused)

In any case, I wrote him a PM, so we'll see what he has to say.

Yar, proud not-Anime-watcher, and in fact, anything Japanese ... I gave up on Pokemon after (unsuccessfully) trying to understand just how the Pokeball stores the Pokemon (I mean, compare the sizes).

Switching between writing fics with different main characters is somewhat difficult (as in Harry and Shinji). I have gone from writing Harry Potter to writing Naruto only to find, after pages of writing, that I hadn't changed up the name.

Harry Potter should not be doing Kage Bunshin or Kawarimi at any time in his life. If he does, too many Potter Law rules to count have probably been broken...

As a Pokemon fan, I liked it. Very much. Recommended for Pokemon fans who have a couple of hours to spare for light reading.

...These crossovers are getting stranger and stranger. I like pokemon fics, so I'll give it a go.

    HP Pokemonxover is still strange.

    Edit: It fails.

It does, no matter what. Big D on a Diet wrote one such crossover, and it just weirded me the fuck out. It had the advantage of being well-written from what I tried reading, but this doesn't.

Found that amusing. It's the history of one piece of gossip and the futile attempts to get to the root of it and the 'real' truth behind it. And I support Harry/Apolline Delacour :awesome

Someone of the talented writers go write a sexy Oneshot.

What They Don't Know » reviews How much does anyone really know about Harry Potter? Things could have been very different if Hagrid saw more then just the Boy-Who-Lived and saw much more than just the little one he dropped off at No. 4 Privet Drive, on Dumbledore’s orders. What if.. AUHarry Potter - Fiction Rated: M - English - Adventure/General - Chapters: 12 - Words: 119,577 - Reviews: 183 - Updated: 11-4-08 - Published: 9-18-08

TO be honest, if this wasn't labeled as "slash" I'd put it in for review. I have a tendency to read AUs that begin from when Harry is small until they get slashy and then drop them. This is a new take on the Independent Harry stories. For one, Harry's pretty much independent from a younger age, and some of the inventions in here are unique and fun to read. So far, there's no sign of slashiness, and it's a fun read.

The beginning really wasn't anything to be proud of, but the writing got better sorta. But the Hagrid/Snape pairing really doesn't leave pleasant mental images, and the author has already started to foreshadow it. The transformation from Canon to Fanon!Snape sucked BTW.

On the whole, this fic is like an impending Train Wreck. You just can't look away, despite knowing that many life's will be lost in the resounding crash coming up.

Chnoubis Vignettes by Black Knight 03.

    -x-

This definitely leans towards the almost good side of the thread.

Honestly, if there were more content, I'd put it up in the "For Review" section. It's in a very similar vein to the same authors Chance To Get It Right fic - a three chaptered Harry/Padma fic that also spanned different sections of the relationship. The writing is of great quality, with minimal mistakes.

Basically, the only issues I've have with this are the same that people had with "Chance To Get It Right". It doesn't go into enough of the relationship, nor the slight AU it takes. However, as it is simply aimed to be a short fic, it does succeed.

3/5 - an enjoyable read. If it were a more multi-chaptered adventure, it'd be 4.5/5, I'm sure. But as is, I can't give it any higher.

Yeah, I liked it as well. As you said, it's short, and for that reason not in-depth. But that's the way she writes; a few, losely connected chapters circling around one pairing. It's more pronouced here (hence the title 'Vignettes') and less so in Life Outside Quidditch, for example.

I recommend that as well, actually, it's Harry/Katie; as Scary said, she delivers quality writing, in all of her works.

I am not really sure how well this will do if I were to recommend it in the reviewing section so I'll just put it here.

    Harry Potter and the Darknight

The best Joker!Harry fic you'll see imo. The first chapter is cliche...But what did you expect from a Azkaban!Harry fic.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and bet it might even make it into the library. Most probably the Dark Arts section. I'm going to predict a total of 39 people voted for it up to this moment, with an average of 4.31 star rating. And that it is on the front page, and has over 10,000 views.

    Oh wait-
