I'm almost positive Mr.Riddler is done with Secret of the Male Veela. He's a member here however I don't think he's been on in a while. You could PM him if you want.

Half a thousand posts, and nearly a year as a member ... time flies, doesn't it? Anyway, to give some substance to the post, the next chapter of TFA is coming along (5k words atm). Look forward to:

as well as a yacht, a party and a barfight. The barfight is still missing; hopefully I'll get it done for the next weekend. But I'm still not sure if I want to write it in 1st person -- or in 3rd person, after all.

Both works, because with the exception of the prologue, the story is strictly from Harry's POV, to keep the mystery mysterious. Perhaps I'm going to write parts of the chapter twice (once in either person), and then compare ... hum, I'll see.

Nothing on my end. Halcyon Phantasmagoria is the only recent update that I know of in regards to Fleur that DLP follows, however I have not been searching much in the past few months due to Uni work so I may be wrong.

On a semi-related note, why are there so many Fleur/Hermione fics??

Ah, this reminds me of the good old days when I would open DLP and there would be the Harry/Fleur Community up in the forefront. Sheds a tear...

Now down to business, naturally. I have some catching up to do, but I will both respond and start a topic.

Fleur/Hermione naturally stems from the strange minds of the population at larger. I mean it is the obvious pairing. The beauty and the beast. Romantic and all that.

I actually didn't know about Halcyon Phantasmagoria, scaryisntit, so thanks for pointing me in the right path.

As to the topic that I wanted to put forward for discussion, it is the topic of the Harry/Fleur meeting. Initially you may be inclined to laugh at me and say I have lost my mind and that they met in fourth year. That is so, but after a member PM'ed me on FFN about a Fleur story having them meet in year four, I begun to wonder. Could things be done differently, in a believable fashion?

Or have I finally gone insane? Who knows? Ponder on it for a while. Let us see if we can come up with some interesting, believable and useful situations.

Think you typoed somewhere along the line - you say 'year four' twice.

Following Canon, they really can't meet any earlier. Harry is essentially a hermit until he enters Hogwarts, so even if you take out the extreme cause of Harry going to France, the odds of Fleur showing up at ol' Privet are just as unlikely.

Once in school - it would be school term in France too. I doubt very much that Beauxbatons would organize a school outing to cross the channel and get a glimpse of the boy who lived.

Now of course, once you diverge, anything is possible. Harry that is raised in the magical world could always have some way of knowing her (though more than likely, such a story would be soulmate fluffy from the word go). An earlier meeting of schools is possible (World Cup, Author's own event...) Perc had them meet just before fourth year, and the idea of some sort of penpal whatnot program has been talked about in detail, allowing a 'kinda-sorta' meeting to take place a year before they actually meet.

I know most people would be inclined to have them meet before, but have you considered meeting after the Tournament. Say for example due to a diplomatic crisis Beauxbatons no longer shows up for the Tri-wizard tournament. Naturally it would either become the Bi-Wizard Tournament which sounds a bit gay, or more probable it would not happen.

This would allow more flexibility I think. Having Harry meet Fleur later on through some dastardly plot of the author, when he is older, would allow for a smoother transition into the romance. If the author takes the path of Bill/Fleur having never existed in the first place, naturally.

It was something I was pondering and wished to discuss with the people here.

The only plausible way of those two meeting anytime before year 4 "Following Canon" would be an event at the Ministry(the British MoM). Of course I'm far away from any ideas that feature fancy social events. Perhaps an inquire of the events at the lake in the end of third year.

That would require some kind of diplomatic visit from the Delacour family(presumably, Fleur's father does work for the French MoM) and an official investigation that would force Dumbledore to bring Harry to the Ministry.
Following the events the two of them could end up in the same hall/corridor and introductions been made. That would lead to Fleur's first impression of our young hero, as the boy who apparently had fought off 100 Dementors(and apparently likes to dressed as a junkie... I do believe that is something she would never miss to mention) but not the little whelp coming into the room to bring refreshment drinks for the tournament champions.

    EDIT:
I think that would make for an AU story. But I'd personally prefer reading a story with better written tournament and more mature characterization for Harry. (I guess everyone already thinks of The Lie I Lived...)

Actually, I think you bring about a really good point.

Year 4 Harry/Fleur is almost impossible to do realistically, especially if you maintain any sense of actual character. Fleur is much older (age difference at that time anyway), very, very hot, and clearly looking towards the 'adult' world. Harry is an awkward, skinny fourteen year old who while not personally wanking over Victor Krum, hangs out with someone who probably does.

To the post above: Lie breaks the mold. Yes, it is during the tournement, but Harry is hardly a naive, fourteen year old boy.

Best bet would be to make the Cho romance happen in four, and make it a little less of a complete clusterfuck - get Harry over that first hump, so to speak. Grow up a bit, physically and mentally and then introduce him to Fleur.

One possability would be a smarter year 5 Fudge. Have him much more the crafty politician. Maybe Voldemort isn't back... but then a few public appearences with the boy who lived, maybe taking him as a guest to a few fuctions... well, that never hurt anyone, eh? Ministry agrees to start getting the ball rolling on increasing the auror class, maybe oiling the wheels of diplomacy in regards to the centuars and giants, afterall, such things have fallen by the wayside as of late, and it's really in the best interest of Britain to stay on top of things. And Harry, bless the boy, not one for attention - as the ministry is making an effort, let's keep things on the hush hush for the time being. Surely Dumbledore understands the need to be discrete.

Plenty of oppurtunity there for Harry to mix and mingle. And well, we never see eye to eye (bloody frogs couldn't make a real drink if their lives depended on it, poor buggers), but the French and the Brits do agree that Dark Wizards running around isn't what one would call ideal. Best take the boy and make a little trip across the channel.

    Meeting after...difficult.

One idea could be...if you want to go a large route, Voldemort kidnaps one of the Delacour's, Fleur begs for aid and Harry answers. But that reeks of fledge.

Harry could always take a trip to france after fifth year to work off the angst of Sirius doing the soft-shoe by the Veil. He meets Fleur, etc.

You could go the disturbing route of Harry finding a pin-up of Fleur and stalking her. Always amusing.

Or Harry is hunted by Mr Delacour after Fleur bungles the english words and says, "He deflowered me" which would mean he popped her cherry of naivetie and innocence. >.>

As to before...why not have the ICW pass a law demanding regestration of all half-blood and below Veela and Albus sets up one in England. *Shrugs*

How on earth does one manage that? o_O That is the most awesome pun in a while though.

With some fine-angling this can show potential. Kill off Dumbledore - who short of dementia would never tolerate something that banal - and install a tyrant. Sensing the dystopian future, Harry helps Fleur in finding a secluded veela colony. Or something.

Is it impossible for a Voldemort, reawakened early to kill Dumbles and Polyjuice himself to look like him?

Segregate the magical species, oppress them and come in as the savior and free them. In his true form as Voldemort. And really...not that difficult. Divert a Floo so Dumbledore comes out and is impaled on a spike.

    Works *Nodnod*

And thanks, that pun works. And because Fleur Delacour means "Flower" something, even better XD

Or you could go the "Teacher/ Student" thing with Dumbledore hiring Fleur to teach Harry french to convince the French Ministry to join the fight. *Nodnod*

Failing that...why not have Harry try and teach Fleur the Patronus Charm?

Or failing that...Fleur is secreted away in #4 Privet Drive after her family is annihilated and she is scarred horribly (Back, legs primarily). So you've got the psychological ramifications, the physical...so much fun!

Aerin, do you mind if I use the deflowering line for a one-shot? I am in the mood of writing one.

    @Mathene

Just finished going through "The 100,000 Sons of Maréchal Potter" and it made my night. For all its worth - you did manage to put a smile on my face. And after a particularly fucked up working day, that was an achievement.

Oh, how long I've been searching for a story, albeit a short one(or unfinished), where the happily ever after epilog of DH doesn't happen... or simply lasts just long enough before everyone starts ordering HP's life once again...

I've wonder, when all those people who like to read about Harry being the red head goddess' soul mate(I have no idea how to say the last one grammatically correct)... have they never ever heard that if you want to see what the girl is going to turn out like, just go and see her mom... physically and mentally... she will end up just like her...

... just as well I wonder if the JKR's image of a grown up Harry is Arthur Weasley but with black... ah I suppose they might just make him color his hair to red as well to complete the image as a part of the family...

Anyways... I was just wondering if there is even a slight possibility, that you might get in the mood to write another chapter of your most excellent story, my dear Mr. Mathene?

That's 4 wonderings in 3 sentences... at least to one of them I might get an answer, eh?

I dunno...he might have been nursing wood over Ms Weasley's saggy...*Shudders* Can't complete that thought.

Well, JKR would prolly bring up some crap about Lily's red hair in genetics shining through.

Happily ever after shouldn't happen. There is always conflict, always struggle. For there will always be humanity. Why can't there be an epilogue where Harry and <Insert Character> go on a murderous rampage?

Is genocide that bad when you're unstoppable? ;)

Erm, back to H/F, I think Vanishing Illusions, while very AU, is a great take on H/F, though it looks abandoned.

(If this was mentioned in the middle of the thread, my bad)

But it seems that the best way to do a H/F is to make it AU so that Harry is a bit... refined, powerful, and suave by 4th year. That seems better than creating some even more AU reason why Fleur would be in Harry's proximity in 6th-7th years. (Don't want to read about Fleur being a healer under Madam Pomfrey, do we?)

Then there is the prospect of post-war H/F, but since I haven't read any postwar H/F, I'm not sure how that could play out. in theory, it could be excellent, say if it was like Hope, but H/F, and not toothrottingly sweet with a bond...

I'm baffled as to why there are so little H/F fics out there. You would think people would jump at the idea of pairing harry with someone proven to be A) good with magic (champion) B) very hot, and C) exotic, unlike just about all of the hogwarts usuals. There should at least be more bad H/F...

Yeah. I'm totally with you here. Gotta kick those stupid fuckers in the arse, so that they -- oh, waitamoment. My Inner Eye just told me that Sesc, in fact, has finished the next chapter ... at a nice 9,400 words, yes, and that it will be posted in the WbA, once the Beta process is completed! Lol :awesome

Now we can't let Sesc take the lead now, can we? Expect an update on The 100,000 Sons of Marechal Potter this weekend.

The gauntlet has been thrown, Sesc, the gauntlet has been thrown.:)
