First of all, the two thoughts that were most on my mind during and after reading.
1. Tavi/Vord Queen. Someone will write it eventually.
2. Tavi/Alera. It would greatly amuse me to see this written.

That said, it's my belief that Gaius' trick where he turned his skin into steel was the manifestation of his metal fury. Any thoughts on this?

I also found it quite interesting the level of development given to the Cane society, even though it's essentially destroyed in this book. I'm somewhat curious as to whether there will end up being a Cane colony in Alera, or if the alliance between the two will return and clear out Canea. This second seems most probably to me, since they have to do something about the queen they left behind eventually, but it might be impractical, given the amount of time it would allow for her to increase the numbers of the Vord.

Also, the revelation that Lord Aquitaine was a friend of Septimus blew my mind. I'm very interested in seeing Invidia Aquitaine encounter him, since they are now definitely on opposing sides.

That, and I think that Isana has gotten ridiculously powerful. Stopping a concerted firecrafting attack from a High Lord by herself, on unfamiliar ground, with her first attempt at using snow as a medium for watercraft? I think she's slipping a bit to the Mary-Sue side.
