Hatake is Kakashi's last name. Besides, as these scenes are from Naruto's point of view, we cannot be sure of what Kakashi really thinks. His emotions could be faked to put Naruto on ease.

I hardly consider it candid that Kakashi told Naruto the fourth was good man.

I think what they are arguing is that it is not what Kakashi said so much as he said anything at all (Is there something wrong with the grammar there? English is not my native language). Naruto is a ninja from a foreign village after all that knows about his Sharingan, it'd likely look suspicious 'cuz even well-informed kids in Konoha don't seem to know about it - Sasuke sure as hell didn't.

That said, I thought the interaction between the two was nicely done. What he said was not classified info or some problematic secret, so really, it came off more as an older man humouring a young 'un.

How much of a stretch would it be for a foreign jounin to tell his charges about Sharingan Kakashi and the possibility that he could steal their jutsu? The aforementioned charges probably wouldn't have any jutsu worth stealing, but it's a possibility.

As far as the young Konoha nin not knowing about his Sharingan... they could've easily asked. If not Kakashi himself, then any other ninja with a green vest.

"Hey mister, why do you wear your headband thingy like that?"

    "..."

    and/or:

"Hey, guy in the jacket, why does that guy wear his headband thingy like that?"

"Who, Kakashi? Oh, that's because he has a sharingan eye. Rumor has it he's copied over a thousand jutsu!"

I didn't think much of it when I wrote it.

The interaction was just there to show that 1. Naruto is well briefed on Konoha, 2. He's interested in learning a bit about his father, and 3. Kakashi would be a good person to ask not only because he knew Minato personally but because he's a person who'd be likely to mention something small in passing.

I don't think it would be a stretch to tell a foreign ninja who was interested about the Hokages how wonderful they were. It's national pride, right?

Right in one. As I said, you made it sound like Kakashi was humouring a young genin from another village who wanted to know more about the Yondaime. And if you actually think about it, younglings showing interest in him is not strange. He was praised as the greatest Hokage to take office after all.

Edit: What I would not have been surprised to see would have been Kakashi becoming suspicious because Naruto knew about his Sharingan, but Cxjenious pointed out that Naruto knowing such things is not really that strange either. So job well done, Howdy!

Does anyone have any ideas what naruto can do together with Ajisuke boss salamander in battle? When Hanzo and Ajisuke were working together is was very powerful team. A estimation of what his skill level is by now?

Figure it out for yourself. It takes a certain skill to escape from S-ranked nin, regardless of how narrow that escape was. He was eight when he escaped from Hanzo... who actually gave the Sannin their name because they survived a battle with him. Knowing what I know about Naruto, and having common sense, I can guess that at eight, Naruto was probably strong enough to kill an average jounin... maybe. Add on years of training and missions with Pain and Konan... he's strong enough that you can wait till Howdy writes a fight-scene involving Naruto.

The same as if he did not have the summoning since he can't use it and reveal that Hanzou is dead.

I'd just like to point out that canon Naruto summoned Gamabunta in the same battle in which Jiraiya was summoning other frogs elsewhere in the village.

All him summoning Ajisuke would accomplish would be to solidify his connection to Hanzou.

I must be confusing this fic with another one that made a big deal out of using Hanzou's summoning. It is still not something Pain would want Naruto to do, it draws too much attention especially if he still needs to draw the Kyuubi's power to do so.

Not to mention what the other Rain nin will think, having a peer with the same summoning contract as the old tyrant.

Well, I can't claim to know Pain's plans (to the letter), but it maybe in their interest for Naruto to fool Konoha into paying attention to him. I mean, they already noticed the choice of clothing by Naruto, if he summons Hanzou's summon, he could make them think Hanzou has a successor or something. It might be enough to distract their intelligence for Pain to accomplish something in Konoha.

What is Naruto's mission? Dunno. If Naruto has to keep a low profile, he shouldn't summon anything, kill anyone-- hell, if that was his purpose, why did he enter the exams? Couldn't he have sneaked into Konoha among the other genin and accomplished his mission that way? We don't know enough whether to say summoning at this point is a good choice or not simply because we don't know the nature of Naruto's mission.

Which is why I demand an update Howdy. No sleeping, I'm chaining you next to Shezza (it's OK, she's hot and will only spur you to write more).

I was under the impression that she was a bit gender confused.

But hopefully the next chapter will be out relatively soon.

From the latest chapter. At least part of Naruto's job is keeping an eye on Sasuke, best way to do it is being an examinee.

Phase 2 could be anything, but if the plan is to waive away Naruto's summoning as Naruto being Hanzou's apprentice, then people should at least be wondering why Hanzou isn't there himself to see how Naruto is doing. Whether they think something is wrong with Hanzou or that Hanzou is planning something, the end result will be drawing eyes to the happenings of Rain. That can't be good for Pein's plans unless he is farther along than he was in Canon.

There may be something to having Naruto dress like a mini-Hanzou to throw people off, but there is more to it, storywise.

Pain's rebels made sure no one outside Ame knows that Hanzou is dead, or that the rebellion succeeded. It's like Pain said in chapter 6. Although Hanzou has alienated and pissed off a lot of people, flaunting his power, people are still used to him and can in their own ways plan for and maybe take advantage of his arrogance.

The world knowing that Hanzou is dead and that his killer has taken over, and then the fact that he has the Rin'negan, would cause too many problems from too many directions.

I get the feeling, seeing as how Pain said that the Chunnin Exam assignment would be Naruto's last as a Rain ninja, that Naruto is supposed to be the bait in plain sight. If he is revealed, his cover story may be that Hanzou arranged Naruto's extraction from Konoha in order to get one over on Konoha and Namikaze Minato, in particular, seeing as how in this fic, the Yellow Flash was the only warrior that made Hanzou retreat from battle.

Naruto could be ordered to say that he is Hanzou's apprentice. It would play in well with what others would think of Hanzou's arrogance, to take the son of his greatest opponent and mold him in his image.

Such a story would be so destabilizing and worrying and kind of in character for Hanzou, that Konoha might just believe it. Pain and Akatsuki might not even come up on their radar.

    Thoughts, Howdy?

And het in the kitchen and make me a new chapter, godammit!
