Depends how close the explosion is.

Either way, you while the result may be same (someone dies) the AK is, bar none, the best spell to JUST KILL SOMEONE with nothing else happening to them.

I never really liked Harry/Fleur as a pairing*. Flame on.

*That doesn't mean I don't read them. I like Lie I've Lived, Wastelands of Time, the French Affair, Dagger & Rose, etc. I just get past the Fleur pairing soon enough since the plot and writing keeps my attention. I'm more partial to H/Tonks, but it's strange - I read more H/F since there are more well written H/F than H/Tonks!

    hallo,
i am here once again and i have been following this thread from the start to where it is now (took me 3 days - with pauses for other thins like World of Warcraft - to read) and i read a few nice bunnies (copied them for review), a few good arguments for and against certain things (got a few ideas from that as well) and found a few nice stories to read (thanks for that by the way).

then i stumbled accross this: Science and Magic can't co-exist?

    why not?

i would say science can never be fully applied to magic, but at least some things can be used (for example in the Killing Curse our Voldy (yes i like badmouthing him, thank you very much) is so fond of. everywhere it is said that it is unblockable, but there has never been any evidence that someone tried to discover a way to block it (maybe by finding something that annihilates the wavelength of the curse (something like to waves crashing into another an canceling each other out)) thus rendering it harmless.

this example (waves that cancel or distort each other) is taken from science, but it still does not try to explain the workings of magic (that's what i am opposed to normally - unless done very well).

on the topic of harry/fleur: Any new stories (not listed in the last 40 odd pages)?

.....i would love to say i am about to air a story about this pairing....but i am still fighting with my bunny (working on the frame so to speak as i make major changes to canon - well Harry will go to the dursleys and he will be brought to school by hagrid, after that i will make changes (but the actuall story will start in book 4 i think))
=> will show you some specifics when i have worked them out (will announce one thing: Hogwarts will be more elite and the wizarding world will emphasize more on magical power and of course on blood, money, heritage and such.
Will change Harry a little (well a little ^^) - he will be more driven to learn (self preservation) and he will be more intelligent, cunning (who would not if being abused his whole life) and a whole lot less trusting (would you trust Dumbles if he just stepps into your life after you had no one for most of it? - i guess not)...

well not to bore you anymore i sign off (4:00 in the morning)

    greetings,
LAX (will have to change that old, childish nickname of mine....could a MOD do that for me? (change it to LAX))

    Voldy?Dumbles?
    Oh dear.

although your wavelenght theory could be developed into something, I still belive you cant apply our science to a potterverse. I have yet to find a technomage fic worth reading. If you want to get in-depth views on magical theory, try working them from a magical point of view. Get some sound runes / arithmancy uses and explain them, research some old lores and develop some myths on your fic or whatever.

And harry is stupid. If no one has ever found a counter for the AK, he wont be the one to do it. not even reading some incredible muggle science magazine he finds out on the street.

I suppose my post is useless here too. Bah, meh feelz sorry.

Welcome to DLP, RDP. (Notice how I rhymed the acronyms? I'm cool like that). I'm working on a sequel for D&R, though it'll probably be some months before I complete it. (I've got two other novels in revision at the moment as well, though they're not H/F).

If you've got thick skin, don't be shy about posting your story to WbA. It's very useful for getting honest feedback on where you can improve. Comments from DLP readers really helped the quality of D&R; though it's not Library-worthy, it does have a decent number of hits, favorites, and reviews.

Pers, are you going to be releasing the new things you have written all in one update? Also, when you say novels, do you mean fanfiction? Or are you pulling a Jbern on us?

I'd be very interested in a sequel to D&R. I still need to reread that, but the rape part really makes me cringe. :/ I have no complaints about it, but its just not pleasant to read about.

I've got two novels in revision (well, a novella and a novel), both HP fanfiction. The first is the Harry/Molly Soul Bond fic quoted in my sig. The other is a Dark Harry crossover with Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion series. The latter needs a lot of work, though.

I won't start posting until I've got a pretty solid story that's at least 80% written. I tend to go back and revise a lot, tweaking and adjusting things. Had I posted D&R as I wrote it, I probably wouldn't have finished it. Sorry about the rape thing--a rookie mistake, that. I'd have found another way to do what I wanted with the scene if I were to write it today.

Naw, don't be sorry about the rape thing. It really did fit well, just made me cringe and feel really fucking sorry for Fleur. If anything, it probably 'deepened' my connection with your characters, per se.

Also, while I do really want read something more by you.... I just hope there is some kind of actual twist that makes me want to read a Harry/Molly fic. Even the thought gives me the heebie jeebies. :/

Don't be. I cringed reading it, and honestly, that's exactly what I want if there's a rape scene. I don't want to read a rape scene and go, 'eh, that sucks.' I want to cringe and feel disgusted. It was good. Well, it wasn't good, but you get what I mean.

Yeah, the rape was hard to read: both as a beta and a fan of the story. But it fit. It added depth to an already dysfunctional future pairing. That's my opinion.

well Hello to you, too ^^

=> about Avada Kedavra: It is unblockable in Canon and as canon mostly sucks (Weasleys, Ginny....- shall i say more?) i would change a lot when writing.
So avada would not be unblockable for me, it still would be hard to hold of (something about Spell-Penetration aspects, so a normal shield never is an option for it still, so something of a one use (per cast) shield especially for that spell (with the wave cancelling) that requires a whole lot of power (a power-sink so to speak)

=> about harry discovering this? i would say no, because even if he is intelligent (and as good at making things like our marauders - i think J.K. made him an idiot, he could have been as cool as James, as clever as Lilly, as knowledgable as Remus and as appealing to women as Sirius Black) he would still not be up to creat something like that (counter for a powerfull dark art (also i am inclined to say: Magic is not Light or Dark it is essentially GREY) no less) so that would have to be done by someone else (maybe his mother? maybe that one-time shield saved his sorry ass? - in an AU everything is possible, even SNAPE in white (under-) pants with RED HEARTS and ROSES on them dancing in the great hall)

but back to topic: how would you write a Harry (that will later have a relationship with Fleur (after having some other flings on the way) that has discovered that he has a family heritage (lords title and all that) in first year (after Riddle braggs that he killed his father in the chamber with the mirror)? (adding to that, that this harry is smart, driven (learn all you can while you can), not very trusting to other people and on the whole a bit different (not yearning companionship so much that he was drawn to RON W. and H. Granger). Add to that, that he is not in the same house (he is not Hufflepuff either, so their is two choices...which? i am not that certain myself)

    greetings
