I doubt Dumbledore started off thinking that would be ok. I think it was more of a slippery slope towards the greater good. First he did some minor thing that maybe he thought was bad but thought it was ok because it was just once; then it progressed to the major stuff over the years.

 

Im personally ready to see Harry wipe the floor with Dumbledore.

 

I wanna see Harry go up against Dumbledore and lose. THAT shit would be epic, much more entertaining than Harry one upping Dumbledore and then killing him. I think Dumbledore should force him into something like Dumbledore's relationship with Snape. Then Harry has to weasel his way out of Dumbledore's grip, perhaps through the help of Fleur and Bill.

Then again, Dumbledore's little plan is pretty tidy, at least from his point of view. Hogwarts' wards are going to be safe for the duration of the school year, and Harry ends up with the Elder Wand after killing him, and he doesn't have to die horribly from the curse he got from the ring.

Of course, Harry's not going to react the way Dumbledore thinks, now, is he?

 

Why do people keep saying that Dumbledore wants Harry to have the Elder Wand?

It's pretty clear to me that Dumbledore thinks that Harry is showing some dark tendencies and is very skeptical of him, especially since Harry is doing nothing to dissuade his notions.

I'm thinking that Dumbledore's goal is to see himself, Voldemort, and Harry dead in the end, or at least have Harry set up in Azkaban for the rest of his life.

Nowhere in this story have I seen evidence that supports the idea that Dumbledore wants to let Harry take up the reigns of the wizarding world. I mean he still hasn't told Harry about the horcrux he suspects resides inside of him. It took Baba Yaga to tell him that.

 

They want to believe "In the Greater Good". They want to believe that Dumbledore was a good person who wasn't infact planning on getting Harry killed on purpose. They want to believe that what happened in HP canon was infact the result of planning, and not the result of pure dumb blind luck. They want sunshine and lollipops.

 

I say Dumbledore believes the take on the prophecy that if one dies they both die. He plans on them taking each other out leaving him to rule the world with his gayness.

 

I'm hoping for a confrontation about the latest SNAFU in front of the whole student body.

No, It seems a plausible thing to happen. The other things that could happen would be that he dies unconquered, and the control of the wand dies with him, or that Voldemort takes it, and the shitstorm gets bigger.
