I think this would only really work how Taure mentioned. Otherwise, despite the idea of a lucky shot, it's still Voldemort. So, assuming Harry could even cast a spell dangerous enough to kill the body of a normal person, or muster the hate to get off an AK, what's to say Voldemort would be hit at all? He'd much rather take something from Dumbledore, who thinks that he doesn't have the power to kill Voldemort and thus was trying more for capture than death than take a killing curse or its equivalent from the child of the prophecy that scares him so. The only thing that would cause him to be able to take a cheap shot would be killing Dumbledore or something equally grand....aka killing Dumbledore. Even then, it's a bit far-fetched, but it could be believable enough to work.

I've labeled Harry as an 'accidental' horcrux. In my mind, an exorcism or something similar might be able to get rid of the extra bit of soul, because Harry wasn't the intended receptacle of the soul fragment. Without being prepared as such, the soul fragment should be fairly easy to get rid of.

The real question is, if Dumbledore wasn't a manipulative bastard, why did he allow the fragment to remain within Harry. I mean, who knows what effect an accidental horcrux would have on the mind and magic of a developing child?

Why does it have to be the Killing Curse to get rid of Voldemort?

If Dumbledore got wasted in the lobby, in front of Harry, I'd think that Harrry would be able to at least pull off an 'over charged' Reductor...emotional high and all that. Which would be not only believable, but plausible. Remember, not just five minutes before he saw Sirius take a header through the Veil.

As to the exorcism/soul fragment...that's what I've always thought.

Jewish Mysticism is filled with 'wandering souls' possessing mere mortals and a whole branch of it is devoted to dealing with this type of possession.

An interesting read on the Jewish take on possession...

Because he wasn't able to remove it, perhaps?

If Harry killed Voldemort (a serious if) wouldn't Voldemort attempt to take over the Horcrux within Harry? I'm not sure how Horcruxes are supposed to work here, but it would make sense that he would try to take over the closest Horcrux--which, in this case, is Harry.

Just thoughts... I wish someone would write it.

Ah, I started a fic with a somewhat similar plotline a while ago but never got around to actually pushing it out of the very beginning stages. Dumbledore was incapacitated, and Harry had to juggle being Minister with a secret and personal horcrux hunt that'd been stretching for a decade...

Lazy fuck that I am, never wrote beyond chapter 2, lol. Maybe someday... eh. Also, end pimp. >_o

Trelawney accidentally removes it while showing the class how an exorcism works.

So a routine exorcism by a weak witch is able to reverse possibly one of the darkest and most powerful pieces of magic known to wizardkind, cast by one of the strongest wizards of all time?

    Not plausible IMO.

Anything about a reductor curse being able to kill someone is crap in my opinion. It's a school level "blasting" curse, not something I'd expect to see in a duel. Otherwise I really doubt Harry would have learned it fourth year, considering the other spells he was working on then.

The whole "it's a school level piece of magic" thing is a bit retarded, given that most of what Dumbledore used against Voldemort in the MoM in OotP was Hogwarts level magic, merely applied really, really well.

Further, they learnt the Unforgivables in 4th year. All you seem to need to be able to cast them are the incantations.

Finally, the Reductor curse isn't a "4th year curse", if there is such a thing. Remember that Harry learnt it out of class for the Tournament.

Anyway, the Reductor curse could clearly kill someone, just from what we've seen it do in canon. At its weakest it seems to have the power and kind of force of a hard kick. A hard kick to a person's head could kill them pretty easily.

Heck, a cutting curse, if properly applied, could kill... Aim for the jugular, and you've got a dead wizard on your hands. Personally, I think a sticking charm and conjuring an anvil over someone's head would be a fun way to kill someone off...

    Another Horcrux Extraction Idea.

Dudley almost drowns Harry during a swimming lesson. Harry's heart stops beating, and he has a Near death experience. CPR safes his life, but the piece of Voldemort's soul gets destroyed before that. Now Dumbledore needs to change his plans, because the scar connection is no longer present.

    Thoughts?

Why is the Horcrux still in Harry? Voldie couldnt touch Harry with out getting burned. So can the soul of Voldie be IN Harry without a problem.

I've wondered about that occasionally. My solution was that the Protection can keep the Horcrux relatively powerless, and from influencing Harry.

Puts a whole new spin on Dumbledore's decision, doesn't it?

I'm surely not the only one who thinks that whole "sentient, fickle wand" business is a bunch of bullshit. Of course this thread isn't the place to hash it out, but a stone that can bring spirits back from "the next great adventure"? That would seriously be the most powerful thing ever... enchanted or whatever you want to call it. I personally think the "ghosts" of his parents and Sirius and Remus were all figments of Harry's imagination brought forth by an admittedly powerful magical ring. And the Elder Wand? Either Grindelwald was never really its master or it isn't unbeatable after all.

What I'm saying is that if the prophecy is to be believed (again, a deus ex machina and a cop-out as far as I'm concerned), then no one BUT Voldemort could kill Harry, and anything supposedly fatal after the blood and resurrection, would in fact not kill Harry but instead kill the Horcrux. I choose to believe that D'dore was simply covering his ass in thinking that Voldemort casting the curse wouldn't actually kill Harry. After all, the old bastard had been guessing all along.

Ha ha. You said "Ho"!! Hey, nobody can kill your hookers! Immortal skanks and their pimp... [note to self: lay off the caffeine...]

I agree: that would be a kick-ass premise and in the hands of someone like, say... JBern or bellerophon30 or Draco664, could be a very good read.

Well, D'dore told Harry he didn't suspect Horcruxes until he examined the diary, but he definitely knew something was up, as evidenced by his conversation with McGonagall in chapter 1 of Sorcerer's Stone. Still, as soon as he suspected, he should have taken steps to get rid of it; that whole "power of love" business is far too shaky to base the fate of the world on, even for a sentimental old nutcase like him.

I like that explanation very much, about Lily's sacrifice protecting Harry's soul. If D'dore had that in mind, it makes a little more sense that he'd do what he did, i.e. leaving baby Harry with those asshole Dursleys.

So, who's going to write the story of Voldemort-kills-Dumbledore-but-Harry-AKs-his-scaly-ass?!? I could of course spend the next six months on a too-wordy first chapter, but none of us want that...
