Could anyone help me out, I'm buying a laptop since I snapped my old one in half. Here is the link to the site I'm buyign from as it is local and cheap.

Could anyone who knows anything about computer suggest me one since I know almost nothing about them, just that bigger numbers usually means better.

My price range tops off at about $1,200 maximum.

From first glance I don't like the website lol, But you'd have to pick and choose one first then post a link so we can compare it. And what exactly are you looking for? What do you need it for? Gaming, normal word processing email internet, graphic design (get a mac lol)?

First one is the best. Although see if you an try and get a 8600, doubt you will, also, 4gb of RAM. Go for C2D aswell. A Dell Studio 15 is also an option.

I've heard HD space counts for shit since it doesnt matter for the computer over all and I have 2 externals.

It seems most of them have between 1.8 and 2.2Ghz, is that much difference? That seems to be the big difference between the higher cost ones and the cheap ones.

Also is 1GB of Ram enough, I hear you shouldnt settle for anything lower than 2 and is ideal.

Is it safe to assume that you're talking about 1200 New Zealand dollars? (~$615 US)

1GB of Ram is not enough, 2GB is; though I would recommend getting 4GB if possible.

3GB seems like the most I can get in my price range, is 4 really needed?

you wont use 4gb in that price range. You will max out your cpu before you will get close to using 4gb of RAM. I have a beast of a laptop, t9300 2.5ghz, 2x200gb 7200rpm HDD's, ATI HD 3650 256mb, 4gb ddr2 667mhz RAM, 17" 1920x1200 lcd widescreen, blu-ray player, backlit keyboard, tv tuner, wireless n, fingerprint reader.

Now, I do some pretty intensive stuff and I can only max out the 4gb of RAM when I'm doing audio mxing in Pro-Tools with multible instances of auto-tune, amplitube metal, compression, eg, gates and massive amount of real-time editing.

Somehow I think 2-3gb of RAM will be enough.
