So, Dollhouse, Joss Whedon's latest project is set to premiere on Friday the 13th on Fox (As if we weren't worried enough about it being cancelled)

The premise is a company known as the Dollhouse has various 'dolls', who can be imprinted with any personality, and sent to do any task, ranging from assassinations to an escort service. One of the dolls, Echo, played by Eliza Dushku (Faith from BTVS) begins to become self-aware in the inactive state, when the dolls are supposed to have no personality.

It's an interesting enough idea, and if it was half as brilliant as Firefly, I'd be extremely satisfied.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

I am, looks interesting. I'm just hoping that it doesn't get canceled after one season. I never really knew who Eliza Dushku was before I heard about this show, and I never watched Buffy, so I really don't know how good of an actress she is.

Talking of Joss Whedon reminded me, Nathan Fillion has a new series coming out on ABC. Castle, I think is what it's called. Released sometime in March. Just a heads up for anyone who liked Firefly.

I am really looking forward to Dollhouse. And I LOVE Eliza, if you couldn't tell from my icon. I've followed her in Buffy, Angel, and have even loved her in Bring It On (yeah I'm a chick, get over it) because... come on, Missy, the bad-ass gymnast.

And Dollhouse has a really intriguing idea that should be fun to watch.

You're just asking for it, aren't you?

I've been wanting to see Dollhouse for a while. There's a lack of good programming lately and I'm hoping I can trust Whedon to bring something good to the television.

I hate it when shows like this come out, that I desperately want to see, because I either have to wait for it to come out in New Zealand, or get it illegally and know the whole story by the time it officially comes out.

But yeah, I hope we end up getting it here, the shorts looked really good.

I loved her in Bring It On as well. Even saw that one in the theaters. With my mom.

    That's kinda creepy in retrospect.

That said, I will admit I'm both excited and a little uncertain for this one. I'm extremely eager to see Joss back on TV, but I can see this show becoming a disappointment as easily as I can see it being great. Eliza's smoking hot but some of the early reviews and what I know of the premise seems... iffy.

Then I'm reminded that as long as it's Joss making the characters and knocking out their personalities, attitudes, and snappy banter then it doesn't matter much what the plot is.

Also looking forward to ABC's Castle as well. The promo looks pretty formulaic and most likely destined for a short life, but Nathan Fillion's presence alone warms my heart. Castle Promo

Eliza was in "The New Guy" as well. That was an epic movie.

Hadn't seen the Castle promo until now and I've never liked Crime drama's, but this looks great. Nathan Fillion has always been able to deliver the banter wonderfully.

Doll House doesn't interest me much but the desire to watch Faith(Who's Eliza Dushku?) alone will get me to watch it.

I have been keeping my hopes low because the Firefly cancellation still burns. Especially since the Friday night death slot on Friday became fairly synonymous with cancellation for years.

On the other hand, a tiny bit of hope has grown on me because something has changed since Firefly came out... tv online.

Even if people don't tune in on Friday night, there's still a probability that people will tune in later on in the week. And since Terminator airs after it, and Battlestar Galactica is on Sci-Fi that night as well, it has a strong chance of succeeding. Now if people watch the show online as well, it just might see year two.

I'm not expecting it to be great, because Joss always has a good amount of backstory before it gets fantastic. But if he does that quickly, I'll be thrilled.

(And now I have Bring It On's song in my head, aka Hey Mickey. Thanks.)

Sounds interesting. I definitely looking forward to a new sci-fi series to watch.

Eliza Dushku also played Tru in Tru Calling if I'm not mistaken, yet another good show Fox cancelled for no reason.

I'm looking forward to this as well. I was rolling to lunch today I caught an interview with Joss about the show and also talking about the Dr. Horrible DVD on NPR's "Fresh Air".

    Linkage

Definitely worth the listen/read. Joss is the shit!

The dollhouse panel was huge in comicon 2008. Lots of Joss fans are looking forward to it. Eliza is a producer for most of the episodes also. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

So long as they keep true to Eliza Dushku shows and have her running a lot in skimpy shirts, I shall watch.

Just watched the first episode. Liked it. Didn't love it. But mainly it's way way way too early to tell. As per usual Whedon, there's a hell of a lot more going on than can be explained in one episode.

Though considering how easily the premise can be applied to magic, I wonder how long before we see a Harry Potter take on "actives" and "imprints."

I'm not a "Whedonite" like most of you people here, so I'm not biased towards this show in any way. I never bothered watching Buffy or Angel and have no interest to. I only got into Firefly (which I love) through Serenity.

That said, I think I'll be watching Dollhouse for the foreseeable future. I like the actors, the were all well played. Dushku really pulled off playing multiple roles. I was extremely impressed with her, as well as her handler and the FBI agent.

The plot is intriguing and I can't wait to see where it leads.

To be honest I thought it was really meh. The dialogue was surprisingly dull for Whedon and Dushku's acting was pretty bad.

Apparently FOX had problems with the tone of the show and had Whedon rewrite some scripts. I imagine dialogue was some of what FOX wanted cut.
