Finally saw it. Yawned a lot. I thought they did a good job changing the ending. The one from the book was too WTF. At least this made a little more sense, if only comparatively speaking.

Still way too long, though. And way too much blue cock.

EDIT: And Middy's right. The book was way overrated.

I'm just glad I saw the movie for free through the wonderful power of Internet pirate sites.

I did like the book better. At the time I read it, it was awesome. Now I just like it because it's an enjoyable read.

And Big D, when are you getting back on Harry Potter and the News?

    Just askin'.

Probably never. It's been a good long while now but people still keep asking. I still say that most of the members here wouldn't have enjoyed the Ginny/Gabrielle scene coming up next.

I thought this movie was pretty good, the movie itself, not the plot. For anyone bitching about shit in the movie, well you probably haven't read the book, which is where the plot came from. The sex scenes? Guess what, they were in the book. I thought Zack Snyder did a pretty damn good job making this into a movie. Everything in the movie was what I'd say were important points from the book.

Look people, I didn't even like the book and I'm saying this is a pretty good movie. The only reason I can tell this book was even popular was because it was different at the time and "edgy". Ooohh, what if the USSR never went away and we voted for Nixon 5 times, hey that's a good idea. :awesome

I thought Jackie Earle Haley did good as Rorschach, but the book seemed to portray him as emotionless, and Haley was pissed the last half of the movie. And way too many blue cgi dangly dicks.

Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good movie made from a boring comic.

I wish I had picked up the graphic novel before I saw this so I would have known what it was about and stayed the hell away from the movie. It wasn't entertaining, witty, or sophisticated. The plot wasn't elaborate or particularly suspenseful or well thought out.

I had the bad guy pegged after his first appearance. The parts that I assume were supposed to be funny didn't even make me crack a grin. If the social commentary was supposed to be deep, then I have no comprehension of the concept (Wow, at even comparing it to Dark Knight).

The entire basis of the movie seemed to be violence for its own sake, with no redeeming qualities to be found anywhere. This leaves the whole thing completely out of balance.

Definitely not my cup of tea.

Only person worth watching in the movie were Rorschach and the Comedian. All the other scenes were beyond gay and I didn't appreciate it at all.

The other heroes were just annoying, especially the Owl guy. Some of the characters meant so little to me that I honestly didn't even remember their names.

The ending was dissatisfying at best and retarded at worst. I can't fathom how the novel was so celebrated, especially with such uninteresting characters (aside from the above).

Vash and I were talking about this on IRC the other day and I just don't think that the novel aged very well. I can see how it might have been groundbreaking at the time, but nowadays it just feels more cliché.

We also have to keep in mind that a lot of the things described here are events that were very uncertain at the time, but that we have hindsight on now. I only caught the tail end of the eighties, but I can still remember how paranoid people were about the Soviets. Even with all the drama about the war on terror, we don't have anything like that now. It's one thing to wonder if some psycho is going to fly a plane into a building. It's something entirely different to imagine the entire nation being destroyed.

Frankly I think that this is absolutely correct. The story was written in '86, if I looked it up properly. I was born in '85, and have no idea whatsoever on how the world worked or the future looked at that point in time.

Still, I could easily see the world of Watchmen being a reality given certain circumstances. It's really a matter of perception, and the young folks (myself included) probably don't have the proper perspective from which to evaluate this film fully.

Regardless, I enjoyed it, even if it was incredibly slow at points and tedious at others.

I was ten years old in 1981. Here's some of what I grew up with:

"Yes, there could be a limited nuclear war in Europe." - Reagan, 1981

"We have contingency plans to fire a [nuclear] warning shot at the Soviet Union, warning of U.S. intentions to begin a nuclear war." - Alexander Haig (Secretary of State), 1981

"Even the use of one nuclear bomb would inevitably lead to an all-out nuclear exchange." - Brezhnev, 1981

"There is no alternative to war with the Soviet Union if the Russians do not abandon communism." Richard Pipes (one of Reagan's top national security advisors), 1981

"The probability of nuclear war is 40 percent...and our strategy is winnable nuclear war." Richard Pipes, 1982

Those were different times, to be sure.

I saw it last Saturday and personally think it's great; although I haven't read the graphic novel yet.
Dr. Manhattan really needed to put on some pants, but that in its self provided ammunition for the only girl in a embarrassed group of boys.

I've never read the comics, but I really enjoyed the movie. Rorschach was awesome and I really liked the action scenes and the premise. Definitely something I hadn't really seen before.

The only thing I found annoying about it were the sex scenes with the corny music. I know they were in the comic, but I didn't want to watch that (not that I did, I was more like keeping my eyes fixed on my pepsi the whole time).

The 80s porno music was hilarious. You can't deny that.

The girls next to me thought I was strange as hell for my constant laughing.

So I saw it tonight, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plot was true to the comic, action was awesome, and the acting was good enough not to be noticed. Well worth the money.

Jesus Christ, what is with everyone being a whiny bitch about Dr. Manhattan's cock?

You'd think none of you have every been inside a locker room before. It wasn't distracting at all. In fact, I barely noticed it.

If you were staring at his cock the whole time you might want to turn in your man card, fags.

Fucking people are so immature. OH NOES!!!1 not a penis!. I'm glad I shared the theater with only a few other people. I would probably have walked out if I was in a theater with a bunch of kids constantly giggling and making stupid remarks about the penis.

Been around, as in the same room as naked guy(s), sure. Doesn't bother me because I'm comfortable in my sexuality and have become accustomed to it. Walk in any fitness gym locker room and you'll probably a number of dangling penises.

If an intermittent blue cgi cock bothers you to the point where it detracted from the movie, then there is something wrong with you.
