Seriously? The only reason I see why this shouldn't be in the library is it's length. The writing is [as per usual] great, the idea is fun and humorous and fairly original. So far, 4.5, though it's too early to tell [though I don't expect it to flunk and fail...].

Meh, I have no interest in this. The humour didn't work with me.

It has a certain "Get Smart" sort of goofiness about it, a pleasant read but let's hold off until there are a few more chapters.

It worked for me. I'd like to see it in For Review if next chapters are as funny.

I dunno...it was okay and there were some lulzy parts, for sure. But it was just really goofy in a lot of places. I like humor better when it takes itself seriously (a la nonjon's A Black Comedy) than in Inner Eye. Wasn't bad, but...not as good as Lie.

Just read it. I do not have to say anything about the writing style, its Jbern after all. Though I did not find the story particularly humouros. I will wait for further updates before saying anything.

I read the first chapter yesterday, and I was not impressed. The premise is silly, the humour non existent. I'm not a big fan of jbern's storis in general, though - TLIL is the only piece of his which I like.

I think it's still too early to tell how good this is going to be, but it looks like a new experiment in tone for jbern. I think the whole point is that the premise is incredibly silly, and plenty of laughs will ensue as Harry battles LV with divination. There's potential for a whole lot of silly fun here, but it may not be to everyone's taste. Personally, I'll read anything jbern writes.

I like it. It's not humor of the sort that has you hurting from laughter, but rather it reminds me of BajaB's Almost a Squib: a lighthearted, breezy-paced story that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Above all, it's fresh, something that's getting hard to find in the fandom. If Jim keeps this up (and I'm confident he will, given what I've read so far), it's definitely library-worthy.

Well, I don't think that people will be confusing me with Nonjon or Blot anytime soon. I wanted to step out of my darker/edgier usual stuff and try something that was more of a cheeky humor piece.

Anyone who has read my original collection has probably seen "Adventurers Beware!". For those who haven't, it's a tongue in cheek look at what the townsfolk really think about your RPG adventuring party and how they always know where the next adventure is at the local tavern.

It's one of those niche stories where the humor either works for you or it falls flat. It also has my largest collection of rejection letters/emails. Hell, Niteblade magazine (a free webzine with a token payment of $1) rejected it saying the story felt too "loose."

So, I figured I should try and work on my comedic chops. I think I do a decent job inserting dark/sarcastic humor into my usual stuff, but wanted tp see of I was capable of more.

Only time will tell. I can say that most of chapter 2 was written a year ago and was the first bit written, so it might very well be the funniest part in the story.

Humor does not always equate to laughing uproariously, and I think this story is going to be one of that sort.

Personally, my favorite brand of humor involves thinking a little bit about the humor of the situation.

This story sort of has the one sane person in an insane asylum type of vibe, which requires care to pull off. I am hopeful Jim can manage it with this one, because it is a bit of a departure from his earlier fanfiction.

This is chapter 5 of this guy's "odd ideas" list. Other ideas and fics of his are rather poor, but I found the idea behind this one really interesting.

Neville Longbottom and the Harry Potter
A HP fan found himself stuck in the body of Neville and the wizarding world. Knowing the future, he had limitless options set before him...but Fate - the original plot - and his own feelings might prove more powerful than he first assumed.
    Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: T - English - General/Romance - Chapters: 30 - Words: 158,476 - Reviews: 131 - Updated: 4-6-09 - Published: 7-31-08 - OC & Harry P.

It's a self-insertion (maybe?) but a pretty good one. 10 months, 30 chapters is a decent rate of update.

The amusing part that I found in this story was the premise - he tries to change canon - but fails. During the part of the second book that has been written so far, he keeps yelling at Ginny to give up the diary. It obviously doesn't work.

There's a bunch of OCs during the vacations, including the Draculas, who I actually liked as characters.

Why only Almost? Friends with Draco, house cooperation, sticking very close to canon. Also not Harry-centric, but I actually preferred that.

I would rate this story as Almost Good - borderline library worthy:

    1. Discovery » reviews A fluke meeting under the strangest circumstances possible leads Harry Potter on a journey to finding answers that will help shape his destiny.Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: M - English - Drama/Humor - Chapters: 4 - Words: 23,865 - Reviews: 80 - Updated: 4-10-09 - Published: 4-4-09 - Harry P. & Daphne G.

So far it's been a fast paced fun tale set after OotP, with Harry helping Daphne rescue her family from the Malfoys. I can easily forsee some members of this site having issues with parts of the story (the circumstances in which Daphne encounters Harry, the near Super!Harry) but so far the pacing and events make it damn fun to read. Check it out.

I had this opened for a while, now I went to actually read it.

    This a strange story.

It has some good ideas, and the next moment it looks like it fell from the cliché-tree and hit every branch on the way down. But before you can turn away because you just don't want to read about Dumbledore using a ward to block Harry's magical power, it takes another turn and suddenly it's still there, but not quite as bad and not really like you've seen anywhere before.

There are times, especially in the first chapter, when I thought it has to be humour/comedy and the story doesn't take itself too seriously, and right afterwards, it seems completely serious. The set-up for Daphne meeting Harry, in fact the entire way Harry finds out about Dumbledore's manipulations is so flimsy you can see the framework, the fact that everyone seems to know that Death Eaters are hiding in Malfoy Manor is stupid (why didn't anyone do something, then?), Bella getting bested by Neville is fail -- and right then, it has this moment of awesomeness that makes you forget all that, like:

The story is alternating between great and stupidly clichéd. Almost Good sounds about right -- I can't possibly rate it, the only thing I know is that I didn't want my time back after reading it.

Potteraholic is definitely improving. Give him a few stories, and he'll have something up here in the Library. Unless he gets stuck in the same mould, like happened to DrT.

I thought this story had a few nice minor details that I Haven't seen before.
His actions scenes are OK But I did read that part kinda fast, so your mileage may vary.

Harry Potter and the Four Founders » reviews In which Harry discovers there is more to being the Heir of the Four Founders than than just having really cool tattoos. Powerful Harry, Multi-Ship. Post OOTP. No Slash. Rated a strong M for a REASON!Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: M - English - Fantasy - Chapters: 8 - Words: 43,556 - Reviews: 202 - Updated: 3-29-09 - Published: 12-29-08 - Harry P.

This is a Harry/Hogwarts/Hermione/Susan/Luna/Daphne pairing. Unfortunately, there are hints by the author that Ginny may join.

Pro: Harry has sex with Hogwarts (the castle, not the student population) in the first chapter. The writing is of damn high quality. Harry is learning awesome spell casting. The Harem situation is somewhat funny in that except for Luna, no one is thrilled that they're in a harem. Characterization is pretty damn good so far (ex: Luna is semi-nuts, but she isn't acting crazy for the sake of being crazy). The dreams of the founders are actually interesting. The story itself is complete, the author is just releasing a chapter every two weeks.

Cons: I can't help but feel I've read this story before somewhere. Harry is virtually a minor god (incredibly rich, has five votes in Wizengamut, getting memory dumps from all four founders that after a few weeks virtually makes him Dumbledore's equal). The author has hinted that Ginny may join the harem. Not a huge fan of harem stories personally.

    Overall: Read it, it's fun.
