how about Joker corrupting Dumbledore? lets say Voldemort dies on Halloween, and Joker tries to corrupt Dumbledore, and Harry, being the only other powerful wizard arround is trained to fight him.

 

That wouldn't work. If Grindelwald couldn't do it, I highly doubt the Joker could. The only conceivable way Dumbledore could be corrupted is if Harry was killed, which would ruin your plot. But, even then it’s highly unlikely that he would turn to Two-Face!Dumbledore.

 

Unless the Joker were to seduce him.

 

I prefer Malfoy (Joker) corrupting Neville (Two-Face) and Harry (Batman) standing between them.

Malfoy was put in jail for seven years following Voldemort's defeat. Since then a further three years has passed, and no one has seen the Malfoy heir. With the death of his parents (while he was in jail), the Death Eaters have been put to rest. Rich, popular Harry Potter has struggled to stay just out of the public eye, while Neville has been thrust into the spotlight, a rising star in the Auror department.

It's not exactly an original idea, but I think the best way to implement a Batman crossover is without Batman in it. I just can't see the Caped Crusader in the Harry Potter world.

 

If you make a Batman story with the characters just renamed to Harry Potter names, it is just a Batman story with Harry Potter names.
That is what half of these ideas sound like.

Personally, I'm a fan on Vash's idea - Harry and family vacationing in Gotham, where the family gets offed and Harry is on a vengeance spree. Anyone taking this up?

 

I'm not going to lie.

98% of these ideas are fucking retarded. How you are bringing these up in a serious manner is beyond me.

Dumbledore being corrupted by the Joker. Harry prancing around with facepaint causing chaos. Clown!Harry fighting BatmanPersona!Neville. Ginny as Harley.

Turning Harry insane and having him mutter "Why so serious?" while wearing mascara isn't character development or even originality. It's character replacement. Don't pretend it's not, because it is. And before someone points out the above posts have pointed this out, read further.

Even if you change more than Harry's name (his M.O., appearance, speech) you still have a story without Harry Potter. Why? Because Harry Potter is Fucking Harry Potter. He can change a bit here or there. You can make him go insane, you can make him angsty, happy, adventurous, smart, Slytherin, or whatever you like - but when you change him for the express purpose of emulating the Joker, he's not Harry anymore. Because no matter what you do, you'd have to wipe Harry out completely to rewrite him as such. The bottom-line? He's a slightly myopic boy wizard with a lot of luck and a potential for growth.

And frankly, imagine yourself writing, seriously writing Harry with face paint blowing random shit up. It's been done before. Maybe without the face paint, but somewhere in the masses of shitty Azkaban fics, I guarantee someone has written your idea out with the exception of Harry being a clown.

But by all means, don't let me dissuade you. Go ahead and write it based on these singular, one dimensional ideas. If it turns out as anything other than a 2 chapter crack-fic you've done a good job.

I think an alternate universe story can be acceptable if we are talking about the experience of Bruce Wayne entering Hogwarts as a student.

I recall the fanfic I was looking for basically wrote Bruce Wayne into Hogwarts as a slytherine, without trying to tell us that it is his destiny to become Batman.

A magical Bruce Wayne doesn't have to be Batman, and I think that is the best path to write a Batman/HP crossover fanfic.

Consider the death of the Batman. The Joker expects their play to last forever, but what if it doesn't? You have mentioned in this thread that he stays put in Arkham or lives a normal life. But what if he doesn't? What if he can't cope and needs a new rival? I think the Joker without Batman can work, in HP.
