You do realise this picture probably took in the region of a couple of days to draw and that if any manga artist wants to get a 20 page chapter out every week that they cannot go into anywhere near as much detail let alone use color.

That's the reason why it takes so long for Berserk to get updated because he hand-draws everything and doesn't use a bunch of assistants to get everything drawn.

That's true, but then they would be much more like the weekly American comics produced at much greater cost and one of the reasons that manga are so popular at least in Japan is that the weekly costs of production are relatively low which is reflected in their sale price. The big profit is made from sales of the tankobon (volumes), which is why if you find a manga you really like you should try to buy at least one of the volumes.

 

I'd assume that they became Pain's subordinates in Ame. It's not like Nagato and Konan sit around doing paperwork all day and try to run their village.

 

They so do, that's the reason we didn't see Nagato for so long he's been doing the damn paperwork!

Ninja overlord, he wouldn't be an overlord he would be a Hokage who's friends with all the other kages and daimyos, who are all so enraptured with his general niceness and wanting to be different that rather than having him killed they all play buddy buddy.

As for Konan and Sai? As long as she has to wear an outfit like in that picture and we never see him, ever again, then: I'M ALL FOR IT :awesome!

Two of my favourite characters in Naruto made this chapter a good one for me.

 

The new chapter's surprising, didn't expect Danzo to feature in Pein's flashback. It was a pleasant surprise.

It also leaves me with more questions on how to write power levels in fanfiction.
It features Hanzo (the defeater of Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru simultaneously) needing help from Danzo to rid him of what by all accounts was an up and coming gang and it begs the question, how strong was Konan, Yahiko and Nagato back then. How strong was Hanzo? I'm so confused....

Back to the drawing board.

 

Don't think so hard. It's not supposed to make sense. Kishimoto just wanted to give Pain justificiation to hate Konoha, so allowing Konoha ninja to 'accidentally' murder his family and for Konoha ninja to come in and 'help' one of the greatest ninja who ever lived kill a couple of brats is all just a means to tired end.

 

"Gang" was not the proper word to use in the translation.

Yahiko led a powerful rebel faction that was gaining support both in and outside of Ame. They were obviously very powerful considering what Jiraiya told us about hearing that everyone that came up against them died.

Also keep in mind that Ame is a relatively weak village. Hanzou may have been incredibly strong, but his subordinates were not on the level of ninja like the Sannin and Kakashi.

Most ninja villages seem to have or to have had multiple "Kage" level ninja. Ame did not.

What I found interesting was that this all took place during the Third Great Ninja War - the same war in which Minato became famous and Kakashi gained his Sharingan.

It also explains why Danzou was going after the Hokage title. Sarutobi had probably announced his retirement and Danzou wanted to take the position instead of Minato and so worked to gain the support of Hanzou.

It's also around the same time that Sasori killed the Third Kazekage and escaped from Suna, who was also involved in the war. Perhaps this assassination was the catalyst?

I really enjoyed this chapter and found it an excellent explanation of Nagato's and Konan's past and it helped to tie everything together.

 

Danzo's going to be the final boss!!!

The whole reason H/G failed in canon was because JKR had the idea, but then kind of forgot about it until HBP when she realized she only had two books left to pull it off which is how we wound up with the wonderful scaly chest monster of instant love.


If Kishi does go with N/H at the very least it's something he's been developing since the start of the series.


And finally, if nothing else... at least Hinata actually meets Naruto before deciding she wants his babies.

Who gives a shit about this flashback? We pretty much have guessed all of this already. The only mystery is really how Pein got the inspiration and powers for his bodies. Also maybe how he became Professor X.
