Sam holding Ruby's arms so Dean could gut her was a very welcome surprise. Jon's inner eye is to be praised (and I don't mean just assuring him it's a good size).

I love all the things still hanging out there too now. It seems like Sam and Dean should be back to old Sam and Dean, but did you notice how we skipped right over Sam sucking the blood of a terrified innocent nurse? I'm very curious what's up with Castiel too. It seems like he's a good guy, but considering everything played out as both the demons and angels wanted, I wonder if he's next season's Ruby. Dean trusting him, meeting him secretly while Sam pretends to turn a blind eye.

Really, the biggest glaring hole in the season finale was that we didn't see Anna for ten pointless seconds. Would've been nice in a cameo with Ginger and Mary-Ann.

I'm pretty sure that when Sam drained the nurse, the demon was actually in control at that moment. The poor host simply got to lie there in the trunk, waiting to be possessed and killed.

Does anyone have the addy for the opening montage of that episode?

Aw man, Kripke! You jizzed on meh screen, dude! Now I have to wait all summer to find out what happens next.

Did anyone else find the confrontation with Lilith a little anticlimatic? I was geared up for this grand showdown and then she just, laid there and died. wtf?

She WANTED to die, so that Lucifer would rise. Of course she's just gonna lay there.

That should have been a clue, too. *I* thought it went way too easy. Did Ruby say that Sam had permanently burned out his psychic abilities?

Then why did she make this big deal a few episodes earlier about not wanting to die and making deals with Sam? I think if Kripke had put everything in that he wanted to, Lucifer Rising would have been a three hour episode. I smell unfinished business with Lilith.

She said it took everything he had to take out Lilith, so he didn't have enough energy to fight Ruby.

Valid point, but it seems like too much of a cop-out and the Supernatural writers are better than that. Give 'em a little credit here.

Awesome episode, but that was way too much of a cocktease ending. I'm way too excited about what happens next season. My hope is that they don't go back to the procedural stuff. Seriously, with Lucifer out there, we don't need any other threats. Oh and they need to get someone really good to play Lucifer. I always thought of Lucifer as Jason Issacs like he was in the Potter movies. I don't know if they can get Isaacs, but someone like him would be nice.

Oh and I love the fact that Azazel's interest in Sam was tied into freeing Lucifer. The fact that the Supernatural writers had this thread planned out makes me appreciate them even more.

Good episode, but no huge shocks. Ruby was always going to turn out bad. The giveaway was her cover story about "convincing" Lilith that she could be trusted so that she could escape from Hell. That was a hard line to swallow. If Lilith wasn't holding her chain, Ruby would still be getting vivisected by retard babies in the Chamber of Disembowelment on the 1,063rd level of Hell.

Zacharias' revelation was a little more interesting. The idea that the angels are aiding and abeting Lucifer's rise because they believe that they'll win the war afterwards is a nice bit of storytelling.

I actually thought the cliffhanger was well placed. This season was all about preventing Lucifer's rise. Having failed in that, it makes sense to push the actual event to season five.

What I find interesting is the question Dean posed. "Where is God in all this?"

Zachariah said God is sitting this one out but wtf does that mean? Is God just granting free reign to the angels, is He letting this happen, is He incapacitated, or does He just not exist?

Since no one else is going to say it I will.

I like the duality of this episode.
Dean breaks the first seal, Sam breaks the last.
Dean thought he was the one to become a monster the previous season, but it was Sam that did instead.

I wonder if they'll ever discuss the voicemail and obvious angel manipulation of breaking the two apart. Or will they let what sam has become overshadow it.

It was a nice and twisted act to have the nurse surface and force sam to drain her. That was demonic. I'm surprised no other demon tried that with the brothers,

I definitely liked how Dean pointed out all this prophecy/destiny stuff was possibly angel propaganda. Its like throwing out all the old rules. throws into question everything they have ever known or thought they knew about the fight.

I wonder if Sam purged himself by burning out all the demon juice... hm.

Nah I doubt he burned it out, I think he just wore himself out killing Lilith, she was the first demon ever after all.

Watching the season premiere from this perspective is ... pretty awesome, actually. All the stuff I didn't catch the first time, and now I can see the implications and foreshadowing.

Ruby was pretty. Freaking. Mighty. She ran a major con, perfectly. She never missed a trick. Well, until she got careless in her success and Dean killed her. I did enjoy that.

Lilith chose to die to free her father. Self sacrifice in a demon. She kept faith for very nearly the entirety of human existence. That's impressive, especially for such an essentially selfish creature as a demon. I wonder if her father will "raise" her, or is she dead forever?

Sam's psychic ability is to cast out demons. Wild. I never really thought about that. Did his precognitive dreams just die with the YED? Is the psychic exorcism the Talent he would have had naturally, if not for the demon? Or is the YED blood he got as a baby what gave him a Talent at all, and it ...um... morphed after its donor died?

Enter Castiel. Ruby's knife went in up to the hilt but did no damage. I'm seriously in love with Castiel. Just sayin'.

Bobby's house must look like lace tatting. I'm not cleaning that up. And poison and opium in the silverware drawer? I must bow to the master - this would be paranoia, if it wasn't, you know, justified.

    Doesn't Bobby have dogs?

The Witness's reaction appears to be some version of Stockholm Syndrome. Instead of blaming the person who tortured them, or Lilith who raised them, all of the ghosts decided to attack the people who didn't save them, even though those people tried. This seems more a directed attack than coincidence. Lilith chose well. And has a lot of information, come to think of it.

Kripke's mind is a frightening place. Brilliant, but scary.
