Whats wrong with Are you Afraid of the Dark?

You can almost see some parallels between that show, and his books. The episodes that he wrote, or if he wrote for all of the episodes.

Come on Quazi, Are you Afraid of the Dark is muy coolio. It atleast better than R.L Stein.

That and it reminds me of that series that Speilburg did, Amazing Stories, or something like that. So, it was alright, but not fully win in my book.

Mark really isn't coolio. He's the least coolio character out of the entire series.

Oh god, I just took a look at the Fanfiction on the Pendragon site. Horrific doesn't begin to describe it.

When I finally found one that had a bit of promise for all of a few paragraphs, and I felt of glimmer of hope, it had Saint Dane gloating over Bobby like a 4 year old, shouting "Hahahah you are a loser!!!"

I don't think the world is ready for Pendragon ff.

Are you afraid of the dark was ok when we were kids... but now we're mature learned individuals. Such juvenile story arcs are beneath us.

Years of Harry Potter fanfiction has matured our tastes, beyond the childish plot twists of a camp fire tale.

What was wrong with R.L. Stein. He got me through many a book reports before I discovered I liked to read.

I'm convinced now that each of his stories are allegories of a sexually repressed America. I mean have you read the mask trilogy?

And yes, Pendragon fanfiction is God-Awful.

DLP may never be ready for what lurks behind that curtain.

Yeah. Its full of Spader/Bobby butt love. It needs some real sprucing up.

At one point in my adolescent life, RL Stein just stopped appealing to me. After I read The Attack of the Blob, the Return of the Blob Monster, and this one Halloween special one, where the kid was really an alien and was spooking people who were trick-or-treating. I just lost favor with it.

Like you, Quazi, I did use them for many, many book reports when I was younger. I think, that maybe if they graduated the horror level in the books, there might be a chance for new/more win.

Haha. The Mask Trilogy is my favorites. I always thought guy had a thing for his sister. Especially in the second one when she's the one that has the mask on. That, and the peeping-tom aspect that the POV of the maskwearer presented.

    Sexually repressed American, indeed.

I have officially finished the series...

Mark isn't un-Coolio anymore, but he's not quite coolio either.

I just realized I love Courtney's short little quips. For a while she went emo but now she is just fun to read.

Alder is now my favorite character; he is awesomeness, dipped in coolio sauce, and wrapped in Bacon.

And I change my vote to Saint Dane kicking voldemorts Ass, in all instances. Voldemort's plans just never work out in the end for him. But so far Saint Dane can make a loss a victory. He is bad ass.

Edit: Odd thought that has been popping around in my head...

I haven't been to the pendragon forums so I don't know if someone else raised this idea or not but ah well.

Bobby is the reincarnation of king Arthur, and the other travelers are his knights.

I'm basing this off of pretty much one thing. His last name. That and the fact that Saint Dane hinted at a king.

It came to me when I thought over how loyal the travelers were to him, even after the ending. it just rang servitude in my head.

That would make his uncle merlin...

Which makes a lot of sense in my head.

Neva Winters would even be Lancelot, though I have a feeling she will be redeemed.

I'm not saying it's going to be exactly from the myth but there would be parallels.

    Alright commence the laughter

    Orly?

Those are indeed interesting parallels. Now that I took the time to think about it, I'll agree with you Quazi.

It could be considered one of those Modernized Fairy-tails meets a King Arthur adventure. I've seen it tried before, but, if it is how your saying, I think MacHale is doing a good job of it.

It draws interesting plot points for the future books, as well.

Even then, you could use that as a plot to some decent Pendragon FF. Yes, still talking about it.

Also, Saint Dane is more coolio than Voldemort. Voldemort's plans seem amateurish when compared to the plans that Dane has used.

    Alder, ftw.

Well this is certainly a bump however it is quite relevant. My question I pose is should I pick this series back up. The last book I read was the Quillian Games. I stopped reading not because I didn't like it, but because the books were coming out so slowly and I got sidetracked by other series and never came back to it. I do have fond memories of the series for the most part, however I read it a while ago. Any input from members that have been reading the whole series?

This may be answered in other pages, however I didn't want to go through and read spoilers.

Yes, you should read it. Go back and re-read from the start.

Some of the dialogue gets tiresome, with the I'm a suave teenager bullshit, and then the I'm a half-a-retard, suave teenager shit the author does, but, then again, its great. Most times you don't see the ending of the book coming until its there, or if you do, it comes in a manner that you wasn't really expecting. So, its hard to predict.

I did about the same thing, and then I recently picked them all back up, and it gave me a few days worth of reading to do ( I had seen the newest release in the public library).

    So, yeah, get it.

Pendragon -- I think I've seen these books in the kids section? Not that that's bad or anything, Harry Potter is there after all and I think most of here are fans, but so far I haven't read them.

Anyone care to give a brief rundown of these books and what makes them worth reading? I could use something to read for a trip I'm taking later this week.

Also curious if anyone read them and didn't like them, etc.

    Thanks

u actually own a kindle... I don't know if that's cool or retarded but you have my attention!

as for Cheddar Trek...Pendragon's mainsticking point that makes it an awesome series is that the villain is truly sadistic and perfect. Voldemort has complex plans that never pan out.

Saint Dane(the villain) has plans that pan out everytime even when you don't realize it.

    Spoiler alert*
Saint Dane sends the protaganist the severed hand of his companion as a gift.

    Best villain ever!

If you like complex mysteries and urban fantasy stories, this is the series for you.
