If I knew nothing at all about Archos and saw this thing, I'd probably cream my pants. Sleek, minimalist package; large resistive touchscreen; nice-lookin' OS; it's very well-stocked. All I'd have to add is a decent handwriting/note-taking software, and it'd have a definite edge over any other laptop or netbook I'd been considering.

But...it's Archos, and their products don't have much staying power, and terrible support to boot. Too bad they don't sell it as a shell, so customers can tweak it to their own specifications - I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't done anyway. A few of the comments on Engadget were already talking about a "hackintosh tablet"... Meh.

Does this thing have promise ? Thoughts ?

I have an asus r2e tablet pc since about a year, and I've used it only a couple of times. It's not practical at all, and even if it had a better touchscreen, more autonomy or more computing power, I wouldn't use it. Well, except for watching movies while lying in the couch, or reading books/fanfictions.

So, in my case, I don't think it has any promise. The few advantages don't outweigh the biggest disadvantages: not having a keyboard, and the ability to use it without having to hold the whole tablet in the hands.

I don't think this is it, but I'm waiting for a tablet that could replace various notepads I'm using in classes/lectures.
