And it might dry up lake Chad, cause the Sahel water table to drop, rainfall figures to plummet and allow the Sahara to advance by up to 2 feet a day in some parts.

I'm surprised no one brought up the obvious objection to the OP's anti-global warming "Antartica isn't going to melt so it's a scam" arguments.

There's this place north of America called Greenland. It's covered in ice, and unlike Antartica, its temperature is relatively high. High enough to melt fairly easily. And if the Greenland ice melts, sea levels will rise, a huge amount.

It would take maybe until 2100 for it to melt, but once it starts melting the process is irreversible. And it may have already have started melting beyond the point of no return - or if not now, then soon.

Which means within a few years we will have started a process that will flood the entire USA Eastern seaboard (not to mention other places worldwide) maybe 70 years down the line.

Way to look at the glass half-empty. And besides...we'll be dead by then, so I'm not really worried about it.

I was going to do this, and link him to a googlesearch of "Greenland Global Warming", and tell him to read, but I felt that might be cheating since he didn't know why Greenland was important in the first place. Then I ADD'd and played TF2.

I beta'd ip82's Yin and Yang fic two and a half years ago. Those chappies were on the order of 20k words each.

I'd be happy to beta anything you produce. Send me a PM with some more information and I'll take a look.

As for global warming, well I like Canada cold. The -40C winters are a nice break from the +40C summers. And if the summer temps rise, I will be so pissed off my wrath will be ungodly.

@OP: You have successfully managed to participate in high school debate. This makes you credentialed to comment on ecology and the effects of climate change. Ok. I have written many things in political theory and have done a lot of college debate. This makes me credentialed to comment on evolutionary psychology and the mating behavior of rabbits.

Notice how in both cases one thing is not like the others?

EDIT: Your sources are better because they are on paper and this is why they are not cited? The Chicago Citation Style is your friend.

Ok Giovanni, your ridiculously grating sense of self-superiority is working my nerves. I make one off-hand remark about a story that leads into an informal debate / flaming session and you decide to butt in after me, the OP, has let things drop. Just let it go, and your statements about debate, sure they're correct in a sense, it doesn't make us experts but does allow us to come into our own conclusions about what we've read by experts that we respect. Just because I don't agree with other people doesn't make things they say any less ridiculous to me, as what I say are to them or you. So just let things drop, as I was trying to do... lets say.. 5 freaking posts into the thread.

Now onto the apparent biased based reasoning on how I think my sources are better because they are on paper. That is not what I had said. What I said was, oh wait let me quote it for you:

Nowhere in that entire paragraph did i say that I thought my sources were better nor worse than their's. All I did was state that my sources were in my debate files, and that there are sources online I could use, except for the fact I do not have them bookmarked like I did on the schools computers, nor do I have access to the sites that had the materials I used on them, because the school pays for acccess to certain resources for the students to use. Though apparently somehow you got that I thought my sources were better from that, I'm sorry for your misunderstanding. Next time I would prefer that you read and clarified what you thought before making a fire-ridden post sent towards an original poster, or any poster on any thread. It's annoying when people have to clarify that they do not wish to argue and would rather find what they're looking for than to try to defend their stand-point, having to type up prior made arguments from 8-months ago. This is entirely ridiculous. Now, is there a way we could get back on topic? If not, I will send a private message for one of the mods to delete/close this thread, and I'll just talk to the people who've sent me private messages, or people like Taure, Antominus, or Bylfolx who actually where trying to stay on topic at first and were not distracted by an offhanded comment that was made.

Sirius White. Many times the temptation came over me to put in my two cents about what the thread was about. Directed to both yourself and the others, but I refrained.

You said yourself that you wish to stay on topic several times, something I tried to help you with, but like others you said this and then argued your point. Thus straying from the topic of this thread. You defending yourself is what fueled the fire on such a hot topic.

I have a tad bit more advice for you. When a man says you are wrong and then shows how he thinks you are wrong, it is opinion. There may be others chiming in their agreement, as well. Look at their thoughts and do not allow yourself to get defensive. Swallow your inflamed pride and let the debate die with their words.

In other words, pick your battles by choosing when to fight and when to walk away. Because a debate happens when both sides provide fuel for the other to feast upon. If you deny them their fuel, they can no longer tell you are wrong, because they will think they made their point then move on.

I make this next suggestion for anyone else hoping to drop their two cents about Global Warming. Don't post it here. I'm fascinated by the discussion myself, but think another thread more appropriate.

So I'll now take my own advice and walk away, hoping everyone else will see the example and follow.

And why exactly is it retarded, Mindless? Because I don't really give a fucking shit about the environment? That I don't give a saggy elephant ass about Greenland melting because it won't really affect me? I sure as hell ain't going to be around for another 100 years, so why would it bother me? Oh sure, it's bad, and should be stopped if possible, but I just don't care.

Edit: Didn't see bylfolx reply till after I posted... please disregard all stuffs in this posts...

The moral of the story is that if you post an argument that your crazy good resources from high school debate club trump all arguments you are going to get laughed at and given the Chicago citation manual.

Ok, Giovanni. You not only misunderstood me once, but twice. I never said they were crazy good, I was just saying since others cited sources I could do the same in a sanctioned thread over the topic. This is DLP everybody gets laughed at, generally I'd say it's expected to get laughed at and get a dressing down every once in a while, but you're inane attempts at a flaming are dreadfully annoying.

Now instead of being completely lacking of brain cells let's all follow Bylfolx's flippin' advice and get on with our lives. So now, I'm just going to PM Lord Ravenclaw, or Vash and try to get them to at least close the thread, because apparently none of us, including myself can just let it go. Bylfolx made a good point about swalling my pride, I just can't on these points Giovanni makes, because it is blatant trolling and annoys the dog piss out of me.

Sirius White, I think you should stop trying to defend you global warming stance. It only serves to make people hate you. It is also foolish to fight with Gio. He simpley cares a lot more than you do. Give up now and you'll save yourself a lot of time and emontional energy.

This doesn't mean you have to change you mind. You've said your peice, now others may say theirs. Really, we don't need you to repeat yourself.

Voldemort's eyes dark, snake-like pupils flickered back and forth in his crimson eyes as he read the thread before him. Then his slitted nostrils flared as he snorted his disgust.

"Foolish muggles," he spat in distaste. "Can they not see that it is completely inane for those completely uneducated in these matters to debate such a subject? Do they not see the irony of arguing about global warming when all they're doing is gobbing hot air? This is why purebloods hate muggles."

That said, Voldemort cursed all of the participants in the thread to having severely small penises and a burning desire to prove otherwise.

With this done, he raised his wand and blew the screen before him into a thousand pieces.

This is a thread for soliciting betas. I beta'd his posts as well as some of the dumber claims he made. I even showed him the correct format for writing and he got upset. If you do not want betas do not ask for them.

    This entire thread amuses me.
