Eh, I fail to see the difference between Sci Fi and Fantasy, except that most Fantasy seems to be filled with "Magic" as a cheap deus ex machina because the author sucks at getting his idea done any other way.

If the rest of the list weren't rather spot on, I'd dismiss the entire thing because of Jordan at number 6 and Bakker at 9. It's probably worth mentioning that Sanderson (Mistborn, Elantris) is writing the final novel in the Wheel of Time series.

Bakker's story is a nigh unrelievedly dark quasi-retelling of the story of Christ but set in a world where evil is more literal and civilization has advanced to the level of the Crusades era. Well written, but imbalanced and unoriginal in my opinion.

The lack of Melanie Rawn depresses me.

The book is far better. Unlike Ender's Game, it deserves its spot.

This is a cool find, I've definitely got to start reading actual books again (though god knows where I'll put them.)

I too, would like to add my disgust at the lack of Pratchett.

Actual books are overrated when you have E-books. Too many stacks of them end up all over the place. >_>

    Just get them online. :D

Ender's Game is less deserving than even its sequels. Where's the Dan Simmons love? Only Hyperion as an honorable mention? Where's Ilium? Olympos?

I completely disagree, if anything Enders Game should be bumped up a spot

The Dresden Files is there yet Codex Alera is not? Imo Codex Alera is a much better 'fantasy' book; the Dresden series is more mystery/supernatural.

I'm amazed that the Dresden Files is on there, but the much better Felix Castor series is nowhere to be seen.

Really though, The Name of the Wind is the best straight up fantasy book I've read in the past few years.

I can't fucking wait until the 2nd one comes out...should be any day now.

I couldn't get into this book, but judging from your praise I'm guessing it's worth trying at another read?

What author names his character Felix Castor?

    Seriously.

Sounds like a Gary Sue DADA teacher.

Only reason I haven't picked up that book yet.
