During the events of Fool Moon, Harry is offered a job by Marcone as his personal magical retainer. In the book, he rejects it. What if he takes it?

 

There is a distinct lack of Dresden fics and TGYH stories.

One that's up for grabs.

20 minutes -- 300-600 words

Line: "Are you kidding me? I've got more balls than a Chucky Cheese play pit!"

 

Finally got out of school and have some time to give the Dresden POV a try. Anyone got a challenge to give me?

 

I thought the idea was ones that weren't going to end in porn.

That's not oneshot fodder, that's a huge-arse AU that someone desperately needs to write.

 

Hmm, a couple of ideas that could taken as challenges...

1. In Proven Guilty, Harry Dresden does nothing when Molly Carpenter removes her robe and reveals her naked body to the Wizard, little after being taken as an apprentice. What if he let his primal instincts take over? After all, it's not crime if she's willing to do it.

2.In Summerknight, Harry Dresden meets Maeve who wants his children. He refuses the jailbait nymph she pops out of the water. Then she offers an even better bargain... what if Harry Dresden couldn't resist the Winter Lady of the Sidhe?

3. Harry Dresden finally accept Lasciel's coin, and joins the Order of the Blackened Denarians. But Lasciel is a master of deceit and treachery and decide that Nicodemus is not a suited leader - what happens when Harry Dresden meets Ivy, the Archive; will she know about him? Will he be able to subdue her and use her vast knowledge to his goals or will he be used by her?

4. Harry Dresden isn't in a good shape - so naturally he decide to do some fitness and uses his Platinium Membership card of the new Velvet Room. What happens when he realises there is more to Bonnie than what one would think - Will he let her use him or will he use her?

No particular time or word limit.

 

With all the child-offers that get made, I have to wonder: What if Harry was sterile?

Dresden: "So you're saying that I do this ritual, and I'm shooting blanks for a year, AND I get better in the sack? What's the catch?"

Bob: "Well, technically the catch is you're shooting blanks for a year. Your fertility is being sacrificed to Freyja, and in return Freyr grants you his prowess. Expect the Scandinavians to have a fractionally better harvest the years you use it."

 

So, 4 it is. Here's a little half hour, 1k word one-shot. Enjoy...

But it's still nice. The writing fits Jim Butcher's style pretty well. The mini-sun is an interesting idea, but physics-wise it's pretty intensive with the mini nuclear fusion and high pressure and all that stuffs it requires to contain the reaction without making it go BOOM, so I'd expect Dresden to exhaust himself pretty fast, as he's used to every time he throws super-crazy-powerful spells.

Still, you could have mentioned at least her boobies.

 

I'm with lnky, Dresden always gives special attention to the more obvious attributes a woman has, and I missed them greatly .

 

I'm afraid I took that spell straight from later on in White Night.

He also uses it in Turn Coat, iirc...


Maybe her boobs would make an entrance if I rewrote it, but I was making a point about the lack of non-pronz Dresden TGYH challenges.

 

I think in White Night "mini-sun" is a figure of speech, rather than an actual description of what's going on (nuclear fusion). I think it's just a well controlled, small and intense flame.

 

Besides, I get the impression that the sunlight that kills vampires is not necessarily the same as a controlled ball of fusion in a wizard's hand. There's a mystical element to it that I just don't see coming from a single wizard, no matter how powerful he may be. Just look at how he captured sunlight and used it against Bianca in Storm Front, he had to be 'truly happy' to be able to do that, which to me says that it's a lot more complicated than creating an intense ball of flame.

Still, it was pretty awesome and it's somewhat refreshing to see a Dresden TGYH response that isn't just porn.

 

Ah, I see the point that was trying to be made now, thanks Taure.

I meant it as a ball of fire that exploded when it was thrown and hit the vampire and lit her up, not sunlight damaging the vampire. I agree that'd be a badass but overpowered spell.

For reference, Dresden almost burns Molly with the mini-sun in WN, and throws a "ball of scarlet fire" at the naagloshii on the Island in TC.

 

It's because he's learned the Katon: Rasengan! Don't believe his lies! He's not really a wizard, he's a ninja! And he's gonna be Hokage, dattebayo! (Ow my sides)

 

Challenge:

Saved from the dragon by Micheal, Charity married him, walked away from Magic, and became a Catholic. What if Harry had saved her?

Optionally includes:

- Single!Micheal
- Warden!Charity
- Dresden!CarpenterKids

 

Several problems. The biggest is that, well, Harry was about ten at the time. And had only recently been adopted. He wouldn't even learn magic for awhile. And since Dragon's seem pretty high up on the food chain...

 

Not to mention Charity lacked Council standard strength... and Harry lacks the income to support such a large family.

 

This. This, this, this. I don't remember everything about my childhood, but I remember this. Kids are fucking expensive.
