I thought the same thing as well, but I also don't want Carter or McKay to pop up.

Problem with the most recent developments on Destiny is that the moment I heard they were sling-shooting around a planet I knew they were headed for the sun. Thing is though I think that whoever they send to one of the other planets is going to be a group of redshirts or support characters because I think that Destiny is going to do some miraculous power recovery operation that involves the sun. Somehow.

Darkness was briiliant. Loved the Kino interviews, giving us little insights on the characters... Doc Park (The cute scientist girl talking about earthquakes really really fast) and Riley (the deadpan snarker of the show) are heading up my favourites in the support team.
Very funny episode too, complete with a nice little scene involving a Lieutenant with rather large mammaries, and the Kino. Immature and childish, but fun.

Next week's going to look good VFX-wise, if flying into the sun is any indication.

That whole "possess someone and then go visit your family to say goodbye while in the wrong body" thing actually creeps the dickens out of me. If the issue ever arises again, just send me an email saying "I love you," ok?

I can't wait to see what surprises the writers are going to come up with this time. Rush's breakdown actually kinda made me warm up to him a little. Maybe it'll knock some of that Superman attitude back a shade.

The scene going through the gas giant was just lovely. Say what you will about the plotting so far, the special effects are wonderful. I didn't hear anyone mention the missing shuttle; maybe it really isn't part of Destiny? I really thought it was autopiloted to go find those redshirts who got left at the first stop.

Really impressed with the series so far. I haven't seen effects of that quality on a TV series for a while... probably not since Firefly. The Kino interviews/diaries/messages are fantastic, I'm so glad they carried that idea through from the pilot. It's a great way to offer some development into characters that maybe wouldn't get any otherwise.

I thought it was interesting that we're going straight into another two part episode after coming out of a three part pilot. Or is this the norm now? Is Universe going to have story arcs spanning multiple hours rather than the self-contained episodes which SG1 and Atlantis favoured? I know they said they wanted to keep the pacing slow and focus on the characters more... is that what they meant?

If it is, then so far I love it. Long may it continue.

Umm, is that sarcasm? 'Cause Firefly's SFX kinda sucked. Don't get me wrong, I like the show, but, c'mon, it just can't compare to SGU in the FX department.

I liked this episode. Rush's breakdown was a very humanizing moment for him, something his character desperately needed to keep from becoming just another pseudo-villain that exists solely for the audience to hate.

Also, the kino-boobs scene was :awesome. Wasn't that the same chick that Scott was banging at the beginning of the pilot?

Yeah, they're supposed to do less one episode and it's done sort of things, more longer story archs and such. Which I'm perfectly fine with, sometimes you just can't save the world (or yourselves/Destiny in this case) in one hour.

Actually, with all the freaking commercials on Syfy, it's more like half an hour. Fucking ridiculous the amount of commercials they show, I'm half tempted to just watch it online instead.

The Kino scenes were alright, I especially liked Dr. Park's rambling. And Eli telling Brody it wasn't for a dating service.

And I hope we don't end up having a love triangle of Eli/Chloe/Scott...I think Eli and Chloe could have a nice friendship, perhaps even sibling like relationship, and I think that'd be better. They're both sort of not supposed to be there.

I mean, all the others are involved in the Stargate program, except them. Even the other non-scientist civilians like Ming-Na's character are from the IOA. Chloe worked with her father in the Senate and Eli played a video game. I can certainly see why the two of them would hang out with each other.

Besides, wasn't Scott just banging Lt. Boobs the other day?

Mind, his getting some girl preggers at sixteen suggests thats the usual for him.

    Mm.

Not bad, so far. Some very annoying characters, though.

I bet ten dollars that Eli loses weight during the course of the series.

Well that was kind of my point, SGU is in a whole other league compared to pretty much everything else on TV right now. Heck, there are movies with less convincing CGI.

The main reason I compared SGU to Firefly isn't that I think Firefly is fantastic now, it was just because Firefly is the last series which really sticks in my mind as having great visual effects. Thinking about it more, I guess there's definitely an element of nostalgia there. I really enjoyed Firefly, but I think a lot of why I liked it so much was down to the whole aesthetic of the show. The setting, the set design, the costumes and the effects all coming together to form a great backdrop for a story.

A lot of those same things are present in SGU so far, especially the set design. The inside of Destiny looks fantastic. You really get the sense that despite being so far ahead of current Earth technology, this ship is a creaking old wreck on it's last legs. The other main sets in the Stargate franchise have been functional, maybe even good to look at, but they haven't really had any kind of character like the Destiny sets seem to. I was never really excited about seeing the inside of the Prometheus... was anyone?

Maybe I'm just horny for steampunk.

Well now we have some idea who are the co stars and who are the bit players.
Anybody that didn't have a speaking part in the show is canon fodder.
    Just kidding.

I didn't really like this episode, but you know there are going to be some dogs, and sometime you have to do dull stuff to move the story along.

Tune in next week, and when do the "young Frankenstien" nice knockers jokes start?

Can't say I'm an expert on Ancient tech, but couldn't they just permanently replace someone useless with idk a decent scientist or something by using the communication stones?

That's... a really good idea. As far as I know, there's no time limit on the communication stones, so it's possible.

Who says that the scientists we have now aren't decent? Rush, nervous breakdowns aside, seems fairly damn competent.

Anyway, any limitations of the stones will probably be explored later. Hopefully.

I wonder if one of the two person die while they are in each other's body - would the other be stuck in the recipient's body?

Anyway - the episode was great, albeit a bit too short.

Can you imagine? Your girl-/boyfriend or spouse coming to tell you that they're trapped across the universe, but still would like to have sex with you... in a different body.
    How creepy that would be?

To be honest, the stones ruin the atmosphere of the show.

In complete agreement. I mean yeah its smart to have that backup plan for communication; it's just too easy an out for story purposes.

Its kind of a prolonging of pointlessness.

What they need are supplies, tech, ZPM's. What they got is a nifty body swapper that pretty much lets them tell people on earth how screwed they are this week.

I mean It would become useful if suddenly they replaced some personnel with doctors, and scientists that could help.

I want those stones thrown out an airlock.... preferably with the black guy and the Asian chick. All they add is deuce drama and that's crap drama in the first place.

And pretty much guaranteed the sun is somehow going to power the ship. Jumps to FTL and whoever goes on the shuttle will be left behind to die.

It must be a relief to be back on Earth again, even if you have to be in a different body at the time... but it must be absolutely soul crushing to then be wrenched across the other side of the universe and find yourself back on board a derelict ship where you know you're almost certainly going to die. Knowing that your mind can be sent back home in a heartbeat and wanting it desperately, but also knowing that you can never have it without damning someone else in your place. That has to be torture.

And this is a part of why it ruins the atmosphere. If they actually thought about it for a minute, they could bring in people who could help solve their problems faster. Or save someones life with critical surgery when they get injured. Or other random things that pop up.

When they face a problem where no one on board is qualified to handle, they can bring someone in who is. They probably won't go down this road, even though its something you'd do in a real situation.

I honestly hadn't thought about it like that because I assumed there were time limits to the stones.
