It's an all right start, I think. No Lockhart, he's jumping right to Lupin for the Defense teacher.

The all-caps titles irk me, however.

    THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS!

I got an alert in my email for this, and wondered wtf it was...Saved it for later. I guess I'll go read it now (probably reread the first one first, since I can't really remember what the hell this is about).

Agreed on the decent start. Can't really say where this is leading, but the Basilisk mystery is clearly involved (see title).

Harry is still Harry. Questions are touched upon about his actions at the end of term (re: saving Hermione). Guess this year may result in Harry considering Hermione a friend.

Solid start, hard to say if the quality will go down or up at this early point.

My expectations are fairly high, though.

I just love the outstanding characterization that has continued. Extremely well written, and I am highly enjoying Dumbledore in this fic.

Looking forward to seeing more, I don't expect the quality of the fic to start declining any time soon.

Another comment to make, is that I hope the update rate isn't TOO slow this time around. I understand the break between books, but I do hope that it means that you have a lot of this planned out.

I really really like the characterization of DD in this chapter, he isn't exactly friendly like you see in other fics, but at the same time he is realistic and still wants some control.

I really liked the crazy!Hermione in the letters. Sounded like one of those crazy stalkers who sends you mail made up of cut up letters from newspapers and magazines. Probably my own sadistic tendencies, but I actually found the letters of her wigging out pretty funny. It was also pretty well written too and highly convincing. Well, except for one little bit, though I know Hermione is meant to be intelligent, but what 12/13 year old uses a word like Antipathy.

Dumbledore was written quite well, interesting at how Lupin is coming in this year. I'm also curious at how Harry taking up Fudge's offer will pan out in the future. You don't just take a favour like that and expect to get away with it. No such thing as a free lunch etc.

I liked this a lot. The capital letters, I believe, are just a throw-back to the way the Romans wrote, since the titles are all in Latin. However, if they REALLY wanted to capture that feel, they'd replace all the Us with Vs, and eliminate the spaces.

I honestly don't see why people are bitching about the fucking title being in caps, i mean, how much more pedantic can you get? Seriously.

Seriously. We nitpick everything on this forum, but having an issue with this title is just silly, and just a bit sad.

Remember back on April Fool's Day, when everyone complained about the pink glare being too bright for their eyes - despite having monitor brightness/contrast controls?

Yar. It gets nit-picky 'round here.

What the Dark Lady Ginny format? Yeah, that was a lulzy day. For one day the majority of DLP converted to Ginnyism and praised the perfect Goddess Mary Sue.

It's because they thought the caps were gratuitous, but as Rin pointed out they're not, kind of. The fact that Romans did it is still no reason to do it.

I like this story and its sequel.

A bit unfocused at times, but I appreciate their portrayal of Dumbledore, and I assume the former problem is a cause of numerous authors.

    SPOILERS BEYOND:

    SPOILERS:
I also think setting up that Hotel in sequel without describing it is a rookie mistake.

Think of how JK sells Diagon Alley when we first see it. They show Katie's response, but give no context beyond "5 star hotel" and its a boat.

Good stuff aside from that. A bit pretentious with the Latin, as it really serves no purpose other than to muddy the waters, and makes any chapter title that could potentially have resonance useless. (unless they reveal them at the end of the chapter or something, but that is a poor substitute.)

4.3/5 and one of the few stories I anticipate.

Sequel looks interesting. On a side note, if you're thinking about the title font this much, then clearly the story isn't doing it for you.

I personally see it as a compliment Chuck. I mean, DLP simply has to complain about something, it always does. And if the title being in caps is really the worst thing about the story, then well, you can't really complain now can you?

That's because the Mary Celeste is a very famous ship. It's pretty much the archetype for ghost ships nowadays since its crew turned up missing halfway across the Atlantic. The ship was fine, but the crew was gone. Also, Harry is basically just spending the night there, so there's little point in going into detail since he's not going to be spending any time there whatsoever.

    Don't worry. I Lol'ed too.

As for the first story, I'm going have to say I greatly enjoyed it, even the lasting chapter for pretty much the same reason as most of the other people. My only problem (and I think someone else mentioned this), is that after Harry saved Hermione he moves on to the next room instead of leaving. Suddenly realizing that Hermione's safety "is paramount" is understandable- so why doesn't Harry stop at rescuing Hermione? It just doesn't make sense.

As for the second story, it's looking pretty good; not too bad, nothing extraordinary, as it is the first chapter. Hopefully they'll update soon.

Good story, solid 4/5 from me.

One of my major criticisms is Harry acting too old/confident/something. Harry seems a bit too comfortable in social interactions considering that his brief conversation with Ron is said to be the first civil conversation he's had with someone his own age. He tricks Daphne and insults her in one move, bitches at Neville for being a crybaby not a minute later, follows it up by confidently providing some encouragement, tosses some insults at Crabbe/Goyle with little provocation, and so on. He's far too comfortable with all of that. I guess it's better than Harry being a downtrodden wimp, but I'd rather it was either explained or toned down.

Simply put, Harry doesn't think like a kid and his actions speak to that. It feels like things would be more at home were everyone 15 or so instead of 11.

Overall it's a very engaging read. Dumbledore is well written. The author generally manages to capture what I think of as the feel of Dumbledore. He goofs off and has an eccentric quality to him, like at the duelling competition, but still maintains an undercurrent of power, authority, and manipulation. Ron and Harry don't become best mates, but there isn't any Ron bashing either. Harry is just a bit more of a loner than normal, though he does have friends. Story strikes a good balance with keeping similar events to canon while changing enough things to make it a completely new story. One of the more original Philosopher's Stone plots I've seen.

I'll be happily following the sequel.

God, I remember this being a very good story, but for the life of me I can't seem to remember enough of the first story to read the sequel. Fucking sucks.
