Although I am finally accepting that will will never get Romero zombies, I thoroughly enjoyed last night's episode.

I thought Jared Padelecki did a good job as Lucifer, just as good as the previous meat-suits.

I'm actually amused that Zachariah's big plan to break Dean's will failed so completely. Zachariah is an asshole, and the pure irony of his attempt to strongarm Dean actually backfiring is deeply satisfying. Having Castiel pull Dean out Right Then was so damn perfect.

Yes, Dean learned that he had made a major mistake in 2009. Too bad Zachariah figured it was the wrong mistake. Or something like that.

Thank God (pardon the pun) the brothers are back together. Love actually counts for a great deal when it comes down to resisting temptation.

If the angels had spent as much time supporting Sam as they *appeared* to support Dean last year, we'd be in an entirely different place. But they actually wanted the War. I keep thinking that if Gabriel had not left his (her?) post, the rest of the angels might not have even tried this route. But she was gone for ... what? 25 years? Plenty of time to take advantage of Azazel's plots.

Why was Castiel the only angel left when the others faded? Surely he wasn't really the only one who decided to take Humanity's side?

Good episode, but I'm hoping to see more of the renegade angels, what happened to them?

Next episode looks to be a good one. The "Is that Ghandi?!" line made me laugh.

Looks to be a horsemen episode, most likely Death. The Porsche's color though seems off. Since there really isn't a grey horse, though I guess Death is described as either a pale horse, or a green horse.

I haven't watched any episode yet, so what would your advice for me be: start watching in chronological order from the first episode to see if I like it, or just jump right in in the current season?

This. I watched all 4 episodes of Season 5 today, and the laughter would not stop. Especially the orgy part.

    Chronological, without doubt.
There is a lot of backstory, and the character development starts in the first few minutes of the pilot.
Trust me. You can do some jumping about based on availability, but try to stick to order. Do each season separately.

Look at the name, it should be obvious.
Definitely chronological order, you will miss a lot of back story, jokes and plot points if you don't start from the beginning.

I caught up on the last episode, and I can honestly say it was one of the best episodes Supernatural has put on. I'm not what not to praise about it.

Let's start with a believable apocalyptic feeling even with the minuscule budget provided by the CW. Sure, they don't do sequences of massive destruction like movies with big budgets, but with just the proper setting and tone, the producers manage to get across the apocalypse better than most big budget movies.

Kudos to Ben Edlund for making Dean radically different from what he is now, but still keeping his future self in the realm of possibility. After al the shit future!Dean goes through, it's entirely possible for him to go to such extremes.

Keeping in line with future selves. How great was hippie, orgy loving Castiel? Misha Collins does a wonderful job of portraying the awkward Castiel, so it's nice to see him do a humorous take on Castiel equally well.

I don't think Lucifer can be handled any better than what the Supernatural writers have done so far. First, demonstrating him as the silver-tongued serpent and now showing him in a sympathetic light. They are touching all points of the Devil's character. Also, Padelecki did an amazing job as Lucifer in the garden scene with Dean. It's tough for actors to be a different characters on an entirely different show. Padalecki managed to act the part of Lucifer believably while he is on the same show.

It's also nice to see some of the humor coming back into the show. The first two episodes were lacking the comedy, but ever since last week's epic moment of Dean and Cas in a whore house, the show is back on track with their humor. I think it might have been intentional on the part of the writers. Last episode, Dean commented on how he hadn't laughed this much in a while. I wonder if the writers sacrificed an integral part of the show for characterization and plot purposes. If so it was a ballsy move even if I wasn't a big fan.

Hmmm, I'm expecting more Winchester family drama during this season now. I didn't really like it before so while this episode was great, the whole getting back together thing was a done too early for my taste. I would have liked it if Sam and Dean went their own ways this season and later realized they probably need to work together later in the season without the whole mushy mushy "I don't trust you anymore" spiel I think we have to put up with for a couple more episodes.

I forgot to put this for the last episode, but for a minute there, I really thought Jessica was god. It's just typical that it turned out to be more mind tricks from the devil.

Chronologically is best, but I think you can jump in at the start of season 4 and easily follow almost all of the current plot.

Of course I like the 2 minute recaps at the start of season premieres and season finales a little too much. "Carry on my wayward son..."

As for this season, I've been liking it a lot but haven't felt terribly "wowed" by any episodes yet. I'm a little worried Castiel's going to become too much of a punchline in parts. The trip to the whorehouse, the attempts to understand 'humanity', and especially future Cas with his fine appreciation of orgies... funny stuff. I dug the Archangel too. I think the tension between Sam and Dean, and Sam's kinda wuss response are keeping me from loving this season. I want to see him angry, pissed, and kicking ass. Not looking like he's about to cry, begging forgiveness, and needing a hug.

This week's looks to be my kind of episode. One leaning a bit more towards absurd and fun. Bring on the next Horsemen.

I agree with you in parts Nonjon, but I have to say that I did like some of the revelations that we just really did not see coming. Like Sam being Lucifer's vessel and so on.

I was getting a bit tired of the brothers being apart too, but this really does look like it will be an excellent episode.

2014!Castiel was incredible. I didn't think Collins could do anything but one face, but I guess that was just him acting well, heh.

Sam did a good job as Lucifer, but, the whole episode wasn't that great overall, I felt.

Not just humorous but there was a sense of bitterness to him too. The conversation that he and Present!Dean had in the car was both funny and sad.

I liked Jared's portrayal of Lucifer but I HATED that granpa suit that he was wearing! And with the loafers! Good grief.

And one of the greatest portrayals of Lucifer was Ray Wise on Reaper. He was awesome. And so was Lucifer in DC's Comic Lucifer. But Supernatural is doing a good job as well.

Well, filler was pretty boring tbh. I must admit that I am continually surprised at the amount of gore that they get away with.

I mean, showing a decapitated Paris Hilton? Fucking ROFL.

I also found the incredibly happy face with blood all over it that Sam had when he looked at Dean after chopping her head off was pretty fucking lulzy.

Nice to have something not incredibly ground shattering for week though, heh.

Sam successfully standing up to Dean, demanding respect as a highly skilled adult in his own right was unexpected. I'm glad we aren't wading through endless mountain ranges of guilt. The character development was very well done, I thought. Sam and Dean came off like they were *trying* to work together to build something new and better. Frankly, they both have matured a great deal.

After Sam-Fallen, it's a nice change to see a classic monster-of-the-week. Sam teasing Dean about getting "whaled on" by Paris Hilton was fun. Sam's huge smile through all the blood over half his face was disturbing (and knowing Kripke, probably foreshadowing) but the episode managed to be light-hearted anyway.

A forgotten forest god knew that the Apocalypse had started. Presuming he wasn't plugged into the infernal network, it seems that there has been some detectable change in the earth itself.

The Book of Revelation never really mentions the other intelligent life on the planet: are the whales having some sort of religious crisis, too?

By the way, when did Sam start doing autopsies?

I agree. I just knew that this season would be full of angast and guilt but so far I've been pleseantly surprised by the fact that they're not holding anything back anymore.

And I love the previews. I just know that the Trickster is behind the whole Japanese game show/sitcom stuff that we saw. And at the end when Sam did the whole Caruso thing I really wanted the CSI: Miami theme to start playing.

I need that as a avatar stat!!!

Episode 6 is up, and I can't say I wasn't expecting the little guy to show up. Spoilers next, ignore if you haven't watched it:

Damien-kid was pretty adorable, not to mention lulzy when he turned Cas into a minature. How he owned his demon father that was possessing his human mother was badass. Hope to see some more of the kid. The Tooth-fairy appearance scared the shit out of me, and Dean afraid to make a face had me going for a few minutes. The roasted ham with the joy-buzzer and Dean trying to finish it through the episode was idiotic, though.

The hairy palm thing startled a laugh out of me. I grinned all the way through that scene. The "makes you go blind" line was hysterical.

Overall, the episode was pretty damn grim. That poor woman.

Did Castiel actually imply that Jessie might not be unique?
Castiel wasn't particularly ... competent. Looking back at it, he should have shot the child from a distance, then come up with the knife to finish the job. Which begs the question: was Ruby's knife even necessary?

When the Winchesters were discussing what to do with Jessie, they decided to take him to Bobby's place. Is Bobby back home already?

The hairy palm gag was funny but I chuckled more at the ham.
    "Dude again with the ham?!"
    "We don't have a refrigerator!"

Overall it was a good episode, but I wish it wasn't so pointless. I doubt we'll be seeing Jesse again, and the fillerness of this episode was just too much. I also go a Jumper vibe, what with the Australia poster and the kid being able to teleport.

I think the Jesse character is supposed to be in some more episodes. I heard that he was listed as recurring on the casting call, but I don't know if it is true.
