Luc- since this is your idea, why don't you start. A 1000 words isn't bad, I might chip in several scenes down.

My only issue is this, if you set me up for a smut scene, I'm either going to give you blue balls or make it totally nonsexual.

If you set up Big D for smut scene, I am A-okay with it. But I like his rule, if fail precedes your turn, you're not obligated to pretty up the shit.

You'll either love or hate the premise. It was inspired by a comment in the Awaken Sleeper review thread.

I'm a terrible author, I know. Constructive feed back is, as always, appreciated.

As for why I choose this premise: it has the potential to be lots of fun, to kill lots of vamps, and in the worst case we try again. It's sort of like a less extreme version of A God Am I.

Also, it should help stave off this becoming a smutfest.

So, is anyone interested in going next? Also, what did you think?

 

It seems my premise (or perhaps my writing!) has scared off DLP. I can write a different starter, if you'd prefer. Or someone else could write one...

 

Judging by the chatter on IRC, you sorta wrote it into a corner there. One of the stipulations is no smut, and then you make it fem!Dresden? As nuhuh said, there's no way out of that that doesn't involve an orgy.

 

Eh, it's been awhile since I wrote anything. I'm in.

 

One possibly amusing idea:

None of us have the character of Dresden. We each write a different OC middling bad guy with our own little plot to kill Dresden and amass power for ourselves. Our characters then watch on in frustration as Dresden somehow continually foils all of our plots, against all the odds.

Hm... I didn't intend to ``write it into a corner.'' As I said, I'm happy to start with a different premise.

That said, let me defend this one. Please keep in mind that you can take it whatever direction you see fit. If you want, you can have Harry turn back into a man (maybe someone helps him). If you want, despite the fact I'd prefer you didn't, you could write smut. etc.

I actually think this is quite open-ended. And I only did the fem!Harry thing because it wouldn't have made sense for it not to happen, all things considered. And Harry transforming er.. herself wasn't realistic.

On the matter of smut: I'd rather you didn't. But what I really don't want is it do dominate the story (ie. become a `smutfest'). If you think it is intrinsic to the plot, perhaps you could achieve the same effect by just alluding to the sex?

As for Taure's idea. I like it. It wouldn't really fit into the current premise. Maybe the next premise (I'm expecting this one to not work terribly well)? Maybe have it be a bunch of Black Council meetings?

By the way, Water Mage, I need to ask: are you ever going to update Awaken Sleeper? It's a personal favourite.

 

I think you've jumped the gun a bit, lucis. You've posted a starter without laying down the rules.

We don't know who's taking part, we don't know the writing order, we don't know the recommended length of submissions, we don't know if this is a "co-op fic" where we are all writing one planned plot-line agreed upon by us all, or if it's more like a role play where we each add our own twists and turns and build on the previous person's entry (possibly even taking a different character each, GRRM style).

All these things have been discussed in this thread, but no definite conclusions were reached. Until these variables are explicitly outlined I don't think you're going to get much input.

I don't really have a problem with the starter you posted (other than an overly sentimental Aurora and using the Latin for "greetings" as a healing spell). But people need to know how the game is being played before they can join in. Particularly if this is meant to be a co-op fic with a coherent plot, rather than a role play. We need to, you know, plan.

 

Since it was the last thing I read, I'll respond to it first: salve was a perfectly valid word for the healing spell. It's the singular imperative of the verb salvere which is something to the extent of being health/strong. Thus, salve translates to something like be well. The Romans used it as a greeting for that reason: they were literally wishing each other well. (Yes, you're talking to someone who studied Latin for multiple years).

EDIT: I just got out my Collins Latin dictionary. It translates salvere as to be well, be in good health.

I agree that I rushed this. Sorry about that. OK. Here are some tentative answers (I don't want to be a despot, if people want to change these, just speak up):
Recommended length: 1000 words (flexible)
Changing POV's is encouraged, but not required. You can choose any POV you want.

As for planning, part of the fun is not knowing what will happen next. We can discuss the fic, but I'd rather the person writing didn't tell us what they're going to do until they do until they wrote it.

On the matter of order: I didn't want to just add people until they saw the premise. Since Water Mage is the only one to have agreed after seeing the premise, that's the first person on the list. Beyond that, anyone who want to go can go. Unless anyone objects?

 

Taure brought up good points. We need an order and rules. Other than that I'm not up for a co-op idea. I'd rather have 1k written by someone, come in and pick it up where they left off, so on, so forth. More unpredictability that way.

I was going to write a follow up to yours, but, 1, I am way busy right now, and, 2, beyond a hi-larious meeting with Thomas and Murphy I couldn't think of a plot direction.

Why don't you post up an order of writers, Luc-. I am busy tonight, but I can get up 1k tomorrow.

Haha no need to be worried. I have an awesome plot twist. I just hope that it will still be feasible after everyone else has had their turn.

I was thinking that we should have a time limit for each person, to keep this moving nice and fast. What does everyone think would be reasonable? I was toying with 2 days.

Also, if anyone wants to be moved backwards on the list, I'm happy to do so.

 

2 days is reasonable for 1000 words. If whoever is next up on the list doesn't think s/he can manage it in 2 days they should give up the spot.

Taure has an interesting plot twist. Though he will have to massage the story situation a little after I throw in my spanner.
