H/Hr doesn't necessarily have to be dom/sub. I mean, it's canon that Harry, while not as studious, is more naturally talented than Hermione. JKR said that in any time after half-way through third year, Harry would win in a duel. Most stories that we like have a Harry who wants to improve his magic anyway, and in any situation it will still be Harry doing the fighting and making the decisions as a result of that. With a Harry who's working to get better at magic anyway, in combination with superior talent, Hermione in no way has to dominate the relationship.

Heh. Stop exaggerating, Sesc. I counted, and it's more like 88%. ;)

There are at least a few in the bin that deserve to be reconsidered, though:

Resistance, by lorien829 (on the Neglected list)
The Cardinal Curses, by B.B. Ruth (on the Neglected list)
The Golden Age, by Arsinoe de Blassenville (sitting at 3.50 right now)

I dunno. It might work, but I'm not sure I'd want to read it. Do you remember where you encountered it?

I think Percy would have to do some growing up to make the pairing work. He and Hermione are only superficially similar in their ambitions. He abandons his entire family because he lands a cushy job, while Hermione would not even consider abandoning Harry in similar circumstances. Percy just strikes me as basically spineless.

Plus, what Aekiel said, and who wants to read that? >_>

EDIT: A thought just struck me. I think Hermione could have ended up like Percy if she hadn't befriended Harry in canon. But being his friend helped her see that there were more important things than 'books and cleverness'--a sort of 'there but for the grace of God go I' situation.

.... That is the very reason it doesn't work, afrojack. Because Hermione can't not dominate a relationship. By her nature, she has a superiority complex and self-esteem issues, which means that she's quite unable to concede. Forcing her to is possible, of course, but repeatedly? It'd have to make her unhappy.

My personal opinion and preference for equal partnerships is known, but for that to work, both sides must be able to concede at times, and she's severely lacking that quality. Percy she could push around, and he's at least intellectually her equal, as opposed to Ron.

    @DLM:

I love making up figures that turn out to make sense ;) And no, I dunno where I first encountered it. I remember it was in DobbyElfLords Harry/Daphne Oneshot, but only added as an afterthought.

Also, consider this: There's a kind of courage in abandoning one's family for one's believes. Leaving out who turned out to be wrong and who right, Percy did seem convinced that Arthur did the wrong thing at the time. In the end, isn't it a little like Draco (hypothetically) leaving his family, because he disagrees with Lucius' Death Eater views? So who's more spineless, the one who always goes along with what is said and turns out right, or the one who dares to disagree but turns out wrong?

That's an interesting question in general, by the way.

I agree, though, with your last part. Percy is in some ways what Hermione could have been, and (IMO) in other ways what she still is. Certainly has Harry influenced her, and for the better -- just not enough to make them work as a couple; they're better off friends.

    ...

    Really?

    Really really?

You know, I'm going to go off on a bit of a tangent here and say one thing that will piss a lot of Harmonians clear the fuck off (besides anything that may or may not happen in Renegade Cause, and the fact that most people on Portkey will likely try and kill me at some point), and that is that I've read more, better Dramione fics than H/Hr fics.

Yeah, you heard me. Draco/Hermione fics.

I've read a fair few of them, and the funny thing is, they're more common in Indy!Harry fics than the H/Hr. Biggest example I can think of is the R-Series by Regulus (which I won't rec here for entirely different reasons), which had Hermione hook up with Malfoy for the middle few stories. And the surprising thing is that both were actually somewhat in character. Malfoy was a douche, but Hermione was bitchy as well, and the funny thing was how well the ship worked behind the scenes. And, for obvious reasons, it did fall apart (like that relationship, if well-written, is bound to), but it did so realistically, and thus made it infinitely more preferable than the fluff-tastic Harry/Tonks angst that filled the rest of the fic.

Now, of course, Draco/Hermione suffers a lot of the same problems that Harry/Hermione does (namely due to the fact I have very rarely seen a well-written Hermione), with the added weight of the fucking 'Draco in Leather Pants' fanfic phenomenon. But, surprisingly, there's a fucking ton of writers for that ship, and those that don't rehash cliche after cliche after bullshit can produce something halfway decent.

Eh, whatever. No Harmonian wants to hear that, do they? ;)

Which brings us back to the original point with the strap-on.

It really wasn't my intention to turn this into a pstibbons-thread, though :| I assumed everyone knew her already. Sorry.

Funny thing is, she absolutely loves my Lily/Snape fic, and she at least tolerates Renegade Cause... talk about fucking perplexing.

She really told you, Pers. Anyway, yeah, that chick is a loon, but to give credit where credit is due, I ran across her profile a long time ago, and followed her suggestions for quality H/Hr, which is actually what this thread is supposed to be about.
