Reach the Open Space seems about right: 100+ reviews for a one-shot is excellent for anyone not named nonjon.

Given the quality of the storytelling, Song of the Trees has only a third of the reviews and page counts as I'd have expected. Infrequent updates, long chapters, and a nonstandard pairing (for its time) work against you in this regard.

While there's no shortage of exceptions (Partially Kissed Hero, Knowledge is Power, and several others) 1000+ reviews seems a sort of landmark that places one's novel among the greats in the fandom. Speaking objectively, I believe Song of the Trees belongs in that list.

Yeah, Tinn, a review ratio of 0.27% for a WIP is unusually low. Your readers at ffn are some ungrateful bitches. Most of the novel-length stories in this thread don't fall below 0.35% or so until they've been completed or abandoned for a long time. That may not sound like much, but it's the difference between 461 and 600 reviews. Ah well. It's still an awesome story, as Pers said.

@nonjon and LT2000 - Wow. Just wow. Here's a little something from Tara Sue Me's Twilight profile, just so you guys can feel some humility too :p

I don't think anything involving Twilight could ever make me feel humility.

It would be higher if you didn't plagiarize (and Marvel comics of all things), Tinn.

Eh, what the hell. Mock away.

    1. Prophecies, Secrets and Lies:
    55, 387 words, 15 chapters, 43 reviews, 31,247 hits, 22 C2s, 33 favs, 22 alerts.

    2. The Sneaking Serpent Walks:
    71,207 words, 20 chapters, 60 reviews, 15,682 hits, 10 C2s, 18 favs, 23 alerts.

    3. An Awful Shadow:
    85,218 words, 22 chapters, 80 reviews, 21,926 hits, 6 C2s, 25 favs, 20 alerts.

    4. The Power He Knows Not:
    108,297 words, 27 chapters, 131 reviews, 34,846 hits, 9 C2s, 35 favs, 56 alerts.

    User stats:
55 favs, 92 alerts, 143 signed reviews, 320,109 total words archived, 80,027 average number of words per story, 13,489 total hits to profile page.

Not uber impressive, but *shrugs*. And the stats for my collaborative crossover:

    Harry Potter and the Discworld:
    39,089 words, 14 chapters, 139 reviews, 47,428 hits, 35 C2s, 223 favs, 307 alerts,

    User stats:
17 favs, 85 alerts, 3,694 total hits to profile page

It's a little embarrassing that a crossover that came about from a drunken conversation is currently doing better than any of my serious stories, but never mind.

This caught my eye. Is there a correlation between length of chapters and reviews? I would have thought that longer chapters were desirable, since it's always nice to be able to read uninterrupted for fifteen minutes or so, but perhaps this opinion isn't the majority?

I've been told (and what I see supports) that if your goal is lots of reviews on a story, for a fixed amount of text, there's a sweet spot of around 4-5k words/chapter that you want to hit. Much shorter, and people aren't moved enough by what you write to leave a review. Too long, and those who review would have given you two or three had you made your chapters shorter.

This. When I was writing my chapters averaged around 10-12k and very few people discussed the first two scenes in a chapter. By the time they reached the end, only one or two parts were on their minds - the lead up to and the end. Writing shorter chapters definitely gets more reviews, but, personally, is a more disruptive read.

I have given up on the readers of fanfiction on ff.net. How this is possible I will never know or hope to.

Cool thread. I've always wondered what some of my favorite fics were raking in stats-wise. You guys are awesome! And some of you are definitely not getting enough credit for your work...

There is a Twilight fan fic with 17,000 + reviews ?!? I'm not hardcore on the Twilight hate wagon; I've read it, and it has its place in the world...but this really makes me worry about the future of our society.

For my only story, Out of the Night:

    Chapters: 24
Word Count: 79,026 (probably take off two thousand for AN's)
    Reviews: 871
    Hits: 147,561
    C2's: 111
    Faves: 693
    Alerts: 1,031

    General User Stats
You are on the favorites list of 63 members.
You are on the author alert list of 162 members.
You have submitted a total of 13 signed reviews.
Total words archived : 79,026 words.
Average number of words per story : 79,026
Total hits to Profile Page : 7,803

Reviews make me happy, and I just posted a new chapter; so I'll get maybe 30 more over the next week or so. Not the most impressive by a long shot, but it's my first story, so I'm pretty pleased. :D

Never read Twilight, but I have seen Dirty Dancing. Here's a head-scratcher from the HP-universe. Sort of.

Last Dance by Amynoelle and Heaven - Reviews(12946) - H/Hr
    SPOILERS: Books 1 - 5 Contents: R
Description: A soap opera style fic about the next generation of characters from the core couples of Dirty Dancing. There's still lots of H/Hr in here!
Published: 05/06/05 Updated: 27/12/09 Status: In Progress
Genre: Romance / Humor Words: 2083330 Chapters: 323 - LATEST

Nearly 13,000 reviews! I've never had the urge to try and read any of it, but as in the case of Severitus and Harry/AlastorMoody slash, it seems the nuttier the premise, the more crazies come out of the woodwork to lap it up and beg for more.

EDIT: Any bets on whether the phrase "Nobody puts Hermy in the corner" is in that fic?

That's not really popular for Naruto fiction. Trust me, you look at something like Team 8 and your epenis will shrivel like an overripe squash.
