This is interesting. What do you guys think about it?

What I found especially interesting is that this comic is taking off in Saudi Arabia, approved by censors in these Muslim countries, but rather than there, it's in the UK that Muslim fundies are throwing a shit-fit.

 

This has been around for quite some time, I believe the creator is Egyptian and that's where it began. It was translated in several languages and has won some awards as well. I haven't read them but they are popular.

It is interesting that the Saudis are allowing it. On the other hand UK fundies scare the crap out of me. They are a breed far more frightening than some of those places around the world we call 'sponsors of terrorism.'

 

They're pretty good, and rather amusing from what I've heard. Not much for comics myself.

 

I think it's only forbidden to draw pictures of the Prophet, or at least that is what I have heard from Religious Studies. Hash can correct me if I am wrong.

What's wrong with this comic? Wasn't aware they never made comics out in the middle east, hell if Bangladesh and India make them, then it really shouldn't be that big of a deal, no offence to India or Bangladesh.

Looking at the youtube video it looks like it could be epic. The only middle eastern hero I know is the main character from Gundam 00, and even then his name was Setsuna so it's pretty messed up. It's about time there there is a brown superhero, just hoping it won't be an epic failure...

 

Characters are based on the 99 names of God. So a 'character' is taking on God's attribute. It can be considered crossing the line of saying someone is like God or equal to God, etc. If someone chooses to that can be considered blasphemous. Considering Saudis who have little tolerance for the concept of even saints, having comic characters having godly powers should cause some conniptions.

That said, I haven't read the comic, I only know the '99' are based on the 99 names of God. Maybe the writer skirted everything that would cause offense. Dunno yet.

 

I hope they start shipping it to the UK just to piss them off.
