Harry Potter and the Root of all Evil by LordAnarchy666 >> HP/RR time travel fic. During Harry's limbo trip in the forbidden forest, Harry is faced with two choices, to die, or be sent back 1000 years to solve the root of all evil before it can manifest itself. Harry chooses to live and takes on a new identity

A readable Harry/Rowena story. Doesn't compare upto Lord Ravenclaw's fic but its good enough to be read if you're really bored. There more then a few faults in the story; the distinction between the current era and that of the of the one a millennium ago is non-existent and a few others that I noticed.

    Magic Unleashed by Chilord

It's one of his pieces from the Fragmented Ideas story. A bit of a HP/Bleach fusion where some of the characters have their magic manifest into something akin to a Zanpakuto spirit. Which more often then not will chew out their wizard/witch before the person realizes what a moron they are before unleashing their magic.

Unleashing gives us a anime style costume change (Harry has wings!) and some other stuff.

This bit has a initial piece with Harry and his confrontation with his magic that happens during the possession at the MoM atrium, and some aftermath in DD's office. And then has some self contained character pieces for Tonks, Ron, Hermione and Lucius Malfoy chatting to their magic.

    Features Nymphomaniac!Magic for Hermione.

    It's not bad.

Eh - it's kinda lame to have everyone's magic to completely change within 24 hours. That more than stretches credibility for me.

The next fragment - with Draco finding a burnt-out lush of a Harry Potter was more interesting to me. So far I enjoyed the characterization - Draco forcing Harry to rehab at Malfoy Manor in order to compel Andromeda to come over and interact with Narcissa. I hope Chilord expands that fragment.

Not sure what to make of it, but the writer appears to be unusually ambitious.

I don't like this story, although it is well written and thought out pretty well, I can't stand Rowena, come on, a soul bond? How fucking original.

I finally read this beast - and gah. Gah. So much is wrong with this I don't know what to say. Biggest fucking flaw: too many damn women. It's really hard to care about any character when they can't get any development outside of how great Harry's cock is and how loving he is.

That said, what really bugged me is how the author tossed away Harry's younger sister. He spent about 10 chapters building up that he had a sister... and then Harry meets her for one chapter, says "Hi, you're my sister" and then leaves and goes back to his exponentially expanding harem. I think she's mentioned twice in the 15 chapters since. A complete waste of a subplot.

Oh, and McGonagall is one of the concubines. That does not help the story in the slightest.

1/5. It's readable. You just wonder what the hell you read and why you read it.

I lol'd. Anyway, yeah -- not that I would read that story, but it about fits with my own experiences, regarding the first and last Harem story I read. In the end, Harry was paired with any female being that was in the series (two-legged and otherwise) and a couple that weren't, and I had completely lost track of who was who. And of course, the flip side was that it lacked characterisation (beyond blonde, brunette, large breasts -- oh wait, that was everyone); you simple can't characterise that many persons within the scope of one story.

Could be, if the author ever gets to the point of the first chapter. Seriously. If you want to tell a story that happens in <inset year here> then tell that story. And not the five, six or w/e years before that as well. If you already start with the war, then the reader (I) wants to read about that and not Hogwarts and 11-yr-old Harry all over. I felt like hitting the screen in frustration after I started to read the second chapter.

And also, chances are you'll get discouraged yourself and the story ends up abandoned. The exception proves the rule.

Read that, and agree with scary. Average in the best and worse sense. Nothing outstanding, yet a technically non-shitty execution, which means it's still technically crap, because it's a bad premise in the first place (and unlike nuhuh with Cartharsis or Joe's Wastelands of Time, it doesn't add any new twist either, so far).

I read it because it has Daphne. Speaking of her:

If you feel like reading elf!Harry. I'm almost certain that has to be a cliché, but I hadn't yet read a story like that, and so it made for a nice difference. The writing is decent enough.

Writing is decent but it takes a while for it to get interesting. I am only reading this since I can't find anything else right now but so far there aren't many spelling errors, or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. I'll post later if this is a fail. His/her other fics aren't bad.

Found that fic a while back, and thoroughly enjoyed it up to now.

Guilty-pleasure fic... perhaps. But I recommend it nonetheless.

I found the Half Blood Prince in vlad's FFN favorites and have been enjoying it, too. It may be a slight guilty-pleasure fic...but let's face it. It looks like gold compared to most of the crap coming out lately.

    Edit:

Harry Potter and the World Reborn by andelyn kinsey

The Second War has ended, and so much work is left still to do. Death Eaters are still at large, the Ministry and its laws are in disarray, families have been torn apart. Harry and his friends struggle to find their places in the new world.

Not a bad story. It's post DH, discluding epilogue, and it's a decent read. The grammar and spelling are pretty good, and the writing style is clear and cohesive. Some will be turned off because it is a Harry/Ginny pairing, and there are some moments of nearly nauseating romance (few, thankfully), but for the most part, it's just a decent, near-canon continuation of the storyline.

As a serious con, it's taking a while to build anything up--action junkies will probably want to skip this one. An arrest in Ch. 16 is the most action in the story so far--this is more a character-based tale. However, in only 4 months, we have 16 chapters and a little over 82,000 words, so there's enough there to occupy your time for a little while. I'd say give it a shot--it's not the usual DLP story, but it's certaily readable.

Eh, honestly? I think people were jumping to a bit of a conclusion. I wasn't planning on them all suddenly awakening their magics at once. Those were scenes from later on in the fic, if I ever write it. I just included those to give people a taste of what would happen later. I had a whole set up in mind that would allow both sides access to it, so it wouldn't just be a Super!Harry with a magic gun.

But, at the same time, I also threw in those things because I doubted I was going to ever get to them. It was a fun exercise in character delving, but I'm far more interested in working on A Fine Spot of Trouble.

I'll post it to my fanfiction.net account when I finish it. That way I can revise it properly and make sure it flows correctly instead of dumping it out chapter by chapter.

Ran across this today and was greatly surprised.

    The King
Years after he was executed on accounts of multiple murders during the second war of Voldemort, the case of Harry James Potter is open once again by a few friends and family to try to find an answer to some of the questions that went unanswered about his crimes and his subsequent execution. All evidence leads them to believe that Alex Potter, Harry’s brother holds the answer to them. Why? Because Alexander Charles Potter is the boy-who-lived.

This is a semi-canonical adherent story set like 30 years post Voldemort's defeat, involves alternate Boy Who Lived and like 4 siblings and the rest is takes too long to explain.

The only reason this is here rather than in For Review is due to the style (or lack of) the author uses - its all telling and only starting to show. Despite this, the plot; a political intrigue and characteristics and motivations of the characters are deeply interesting. Personally at this stage I'd give this a 3/5 with potential to become a 5/5 with more polish and development.

I agree with you, there is a lot of telling but hardly any showing. It kind of gets boring as the writing is quite bland and hardly interesting.

The plot is okay but the execution leaves much to be desired.

I feel like I have to adjust my assessment regarding The Sufferer & The Witness. So far, it's shaping up to be one of the more decent Slytherin-AUs. Props for Harry and Daphne not becoming friends immediately because "they're both outcasts in Slytherin"; and the author's found a pretty good balance between going through the year quickly and not writing one big summary that no one wants to read anymore. It's actually somewhat interesting; I enjoyed it.

    Edit:

Lol, it seems like tonight is a rather big back-pedalling night. Harry Potter and the Betrothal Contract has seemingly finally started to diverge from Canon significantly, and it does the story a world of good. The less focus on the contract, the better. Infact, it was more or less HBP, only with a betrothal contract, but now, I'm actually having hopes and want to read MOAR. This >> Harry and Daphne angsting over the contract, which seems to have passed as well now.

Crossing fingers that the potential it now shows doesn't get fucked up ...

EditEdit: Just got a reply stating there'll be no Hallows, so Dumbledore's "plan" is apparently not the Canon one either.

Most guys would be happy with one hot girl chasing after them. Harry’s got two and he has to choose between them while working for exams, fighting Death Eaters and training to kill Voldemort. Harry/Fleur, Harry/Tonks and eventually Harry/Fleur/Tonks.
    Rated: M - English - Romance/Adventure - Chapters: 5 - Words: 12,963 - Reviews: 112 - Updated: 2-1-10 - Published: 1-1-10 - Harry P. & N. Tonks

Here's a ... well, I was going to say, light-hearted little story about Harry helping out Fleur by pretending he's her boyfriend, when Tonks is suddenly interested too -- in fact, the scene in the last chapter was hilarious, when he has Fleur's necklace on, and Tonks wants him to put on hers (both Christmas gifts) ... but then, there was the ending and I just went o_O

Have to see where the story goes from here, but as of yet, I think it's a fun little tale.

It's okay, but it definitely belongs in this topic. The writing is pretty shoddy, riddled with errors. The author fails at captivating me through his writing. I didn't feel any emotions while reading, besides slight amusement at one or two things. The dialogue is pretty sketchy at times, too.

The timeline is a bit messed up. This is supposed to be taking place during fifth year, according to the opening lines of the first chapter, but in the fifth chapter Ron is receiving the gift he receives in sixth year from Lavender. Strangely, not a single reviewer mentions it.

If I take all the errors away, it's a very slightly interesting story. I wouldn't mind seeing where the author takes the story after the odd, what I felt to be out of place surprise at the end of the fifth chapter. (Seriously, since Sesc said this was fairly lighthearted, and the first four chapters do indicate that, I'm at a loss as to why the author did what he did.) However, unless there's some drastic changes, I can't see myself following this.

Fairly certain it's just to enable consolation sex.

The writing's nowhere good enough to give shock moments any impact.
