    It's the same with me. I've even put "A Study in Scarlet" on reservation at the library so I don't feel bad going to see the Sherlock Holmes movie with no idea what it's about.

    I feel that Harry Potter is an obvious rip off of 'The Worst Witch' with the exception of the that that 'The Worst Witch' takes place in a boarding school for all girls and has a few sillier elements to it.

    On Topic: The movie looks amazing. I love movies about the old Gods provided they aren't made by the SyFy channel. It also doesn't appear to be nearly as childish as the books were which I assume is an attempt to widen the viewing audience.

    Also, the Sherlock Holmes movie will have very little to do with the books methinks.

    I read all of the Sherlock Holmes stories when I was a kid. This movie doesn't look anything like the books. Holmes was not a playboy action hero.

    Percy's more pimped out than Harry though. He has 3 girls in love with him. A titan, a Demi God and a mortal.

    Edit: Titan would be Calypso daughter of Atus (Titan who carries the sky.)

    Hmm. Mortal: Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Demi God: Annabeth. I can't seem to remember any Titan in love with him...

    But he was a fan of coke, so RDJ should be a good fit.

    The trailer looks good enough to watch the movie. I refuse to read the books though so I'll enjoy the movie. I also see it has Brandon T. Jackson (the black guy) he's funny to me.
    @zombie great sig

    I've read them. They're decent, but definitely for kids, as opposed to Harry Potter, which is more YA. Basically, the Percy Jackson books are a lot simpler, not so much with the subplots. IMHO, a far better kid's series is Ranger's Apprentice, by John Flanagan.

    One a totally unrelated note I'm looking forward to the other Pierce Brosnan movie THe Ghost Writer now that's a good book and looks like it will be a good movie.

    I highly doubt that this will ever reach the obsessive level of fandom that Harry potter has reached. I've never read the books and I probably never will, but the trailer for the movie looks halfway decent so I will probably end up seeing it at some point.

    I've read both, and I must conclude that you smoke dope. Ranger's Apprentice is far, and I mean far, less interesting that the Percy Jackson series. The dialogue is listless and the humor is contrived. The plotting is weak, and the world is basically just a copy of Middle Age Europe. Not interesting.

    They're both aimed at the same preteen audience, and all three of my preteens far prefer PJ. Yes, the series is intended for youths, but, to me atleast, that doesn't make it any less entertaining.

    Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are better written than Harry, Hermione and Ron. The plot works well and has a well done resolution at the end. The dialogue is witty and amusing, though definitely aimed at kids. It manages to cover most of the major Greek Hero myths and do it well. It doesn't feel like you're rereading them.

    And Calypso is the daughter of Atlas, and she isn't a titan. The movie sucked. A lot.
