The idea while original, doesn't seem to having anything going for it. Hermione learning how to understand the technology after a few times seems a tad stretched, considering it took the cannon Stargate characters, who were all specialists with decades of knowledge under their belts, a good year or two to just get a basic understanding of the instruments. Let's not forget the house elves bonding to Atlantis and there by magically evolving, what ever that means.

I doubt that it will even get that far, if you guys were following his other Stargate crossover, Techonomagus or something similar, it has been abandoned just when something seemed to be developing a plot. Oh well maybe the author will stick with this story and learn to deal with one fic at a time.

A little too boring for my taste. I prefer the much better, much lamented 'Technomagus.'

Still not been updated in ages, which really is a shame.

Not too long ago while on holiday, I decided to do some work on my stories (mostly while traveling, or while getting read to go to bed) only to find that, unfortunately, I'd forgotten to transfer the stories to my laptop. Very annoyed.

Anyway, I remembered this old story and how it was abandoned and how I'd thought it'd be nice if somebody took the basic idea and re-did it, without some of spelling and grammar and overly boring centaurs and plants.

So I went about typing up a version, and by the end of vacation had around 20k words. Not too bad really, usually it'd take me much longer to write that much up, though usually I'm doing more editing as I go along instead of mostly just writing.

I was wondering if anybody else would find that interesting? I could post it in WBA section but A.) It's only a secondary thing I'll work on when I'm out of ideas for my other stories, as they take precedent, B.) The other things I've posted in WBA have mostly been ignored after a few initial posts, so I simply stopped bothering. Admittedly, Eccentricities of Death was probably not DLP'ish enough but I had expected/hoped for more input regarding Gateway of Mysteries as it was conceived her at DLP.

I just went through and did some editing and a bit of rewriting on the prologue, which is the Moros(Merlin) + Founders bit, with the real story starting when Harry comes along in Chapter 2.

    ...totally not cool, man.

Get permission from the author first.

The author has already said people are allowed to use his plots for abandoned stories, as long as they don't just copy it exactly, which I am not.

Plus, I've sent him a PM.

At this point I don't even know that I will actually write the whole thing, which is part of the reason I was wondering if anybody here thinks it would be a good idea.

Fair dos. That said, Sapce Haven isn't explicitly abandoned as Technomagus is.

True, but his note on his authors page says,

But as I said, I have sent him/her a PM to make sure it's okay.

If you do end up posting it, I'll probably read it, at the very least because I still have somewhat of a soft spot for Harry Potter/Stargate crossovers. (Although I'm still not quite sure what I like so much about them.)

I, also, would be interested in seeing your work.

Additionally, I see no moral issues with releasing your work even if the author were to explicitly refuse to let you, provided you include citations. After all, a fanfiction author refusing to allow others to write what is tantamount to fanfiction based on their work seems rather hypocritical to me. (I'd also argue that a non-fanfiction author couldn't do this either, but that's besides the point and more complicated to argue. cf UDHR 27.1)

I would be interested in reading it. HP/Stargate crossovers are a relatively rare breed, so I will take what I can get. That's not to say that I think what you're writing will be bad; I'd have to read it first to make any judgments. In any case, the overall idea is relatively interesting, so I think it would be worth it.

Hmmm, esama posted a new 17k chapter. Shame I don't have time to read that right now, too busy enjoying my birthday. Will have to read it tomorrow or perhaps tonight.

I do hope the centaurs are doing okay.

    - Updated.

I like this story quite a bit and are happy to see that it has been updated. Even though it is slow going, I like the whole aspect of "society building" that this fic has going.
