The only thing worse than being pranked by Fred and George is not being pranked by them. Because that would imply that you aren't even worth that. I agree that it's embarrassing for Neville, but I think he'd feel left out if they were pranking everyone except him.

On a related note, people in the wizarding world can get away with anything. I mean, Tom Riddle killed Myrtle, Sirius tried to kill Snape (IMO, Snape deserves it, but he didn't when he was just a kid. Besides, Lupin would've been executed for it), there's never any indication that teachers who abuse students are punished... I could go on. Compared to that, pranks that don't cause permanent harm are nothing.

Also, they are brilliant. They probably could do a lot better in their classes if they tried, but why bother? They create a successful business (not easy!) with only three OWL's apiece. I mean, I'm sure Harry or Ron couldn't create a magical object from scratch. (Hermione could, but it would be for studying)

Which is fairly true. There's a reason the jocks are the popular kids in school, not the geeks. Bullying, when you're not on the receiving end of it, is often hilarious.

 

You know why you don't like Fred and George? Because Fred and George are the kids you wish you were at school; successful, popular, intelligent and good with the ladies.

What? Didn't they get 3 OWLs between the both of them? And I don't recall either one in Canon seeing anyone until the end of Deathly Hallows.

 

And yet they're still pretty much the best magic users of Harry's school years.
