Excellent update Nuhuh.

My interpretation of the story thus far of Catharsis part 2:
Twins born, Child of Prophecy is Bianca.
DEs kidnap Order children and memory charm the existence from the parents.
Dumbledores have James/Remus/Sirius work to return the Order children.
James is privy to information that 1 child, who no one else is aware of is supposedly Ariana's granddaughter.
Lily believes that she has been memory charmed of her sons existence. Not sure if she believes in Bianca or not. Could be because of the faulty memory charm, only remembering one child.

So what we know is that above and beyond the standard Orders missing children, Ariana Dumbledore has a 'granddaughter' who she is obviously desperate to get back. I'm guessing that this is just a cover story. Bianca is the child of prophecy who defeated Voldemort, which caused the DEs to go on their kidnapping rampage to get a bit of revenge back I suppose. Dumbledores know that Bianca is the child of prophecy, and I guess want their weapon. So they memory charm the Potters of their first set of twins, and sell the cover story of granddaughter, who once found would obviously be under the DDs control so they can do whatever with her. Raise her up as the child of prophecy, train her to be a super witch, all under the Dumbledore name giving them more fame/power/influence to the family. Who knows?

One thing I found a little perplexing though, is that if the 'powers that be' or whatever in Part 1 gave that Dumbledore authority to throw Harry out of that universe. Whats stopping this alternate reality's 'powers that be' from getting all aggravated like part 1's world and kicking Harry &/or Bianca out?

 

I don't get that at all, ceebee, unless you mean that's what James, Remus, et al would think happened, because it might soon become all-too-plausible from their increasingly paranoid perspective. Plus, the Dumbledores getting blamed while actually being innocent would make the upcoming clusterfuck all the more ironically delicious. Although I wonder if we'll get to actually see The Answer, rather than a multitude of paranoia-induced hypotheses from the characters as the Order crashes and burns.

Because as to what actually happened, it doesn't fit. The whole thing is needlessly convoluted: if the Dumbledores did it for that particular purpose, then they already had access to just about everyone's mind, so they could have secured Bianca (or whoever the child of prophecy was--there's nothing so far to suggest it's Bianca in this universe, or even that the Potters lost more than one child) pretty much immediately, rather than extending the whole thing over a decade.

And then there's a demented part of me that hopes that psycho!Lily was the one to originally obliviate the Order, only to be obliviated by her well-meaning husband to spare her the loss. I'm not sure if that could be made to have much sense in this story, but I like it.

 

Well this is all under the assumption that there was the birth of the original Potter twins. Which is supported by Lily believing in Harry's existence. I guess it comes down to: What are Harry & Bianca doing when they travel from AU to AU? Are they bodyjacking their counterparts, or are their bodies going too?

I'm more into the bodyjacking idea, because didn't last chapter Sirius mention that one of his Aurors was remarking about Goblins talking about children? Otherwise it seems a bit illogical (lol, logic in a story with magic? preposterous!) that Harry & Bianca were banished from Diagon Alley, but appeared in some random valley somewhere. I'd figure that you'd appear in the AU in the same spot where you were banished from. Only thing I can think of that screws this theory up is that Bianca had James' wand from her AU.

As for the Dumbledores dragging it out over 10 years, they might have decided to be opportunistic. Remember that the insinuation is that the original Potter child(ren) where taken along with the other Order children.

I also remembered that James is supposedly the defeater of Voldemort in this AU, though he feels it is undeserved, but I don't think it was elaborated on. So that could discount a lot of the things I said.

Most of my assumptions and guesses were made on the idea Harry & Bianca were bodyjacking their counterparts, who had been kidnapped by DEs and sold to goblins or whatever.

I'm probably really confused, and Nuhuh is laughing at me behind his screen, but whatever, isn't that why people read mystery stories? To make their own (very wrong) conclusions to then go 'Ooooooh, I get it' when the author tells them whats what.

 

Next installment. James meets Bianca: Chapter 13

 

I kind of got the impression that Dumbledore in the first Catharsis was just bullshitting about Harry "not belonging." After all, he'd known of Bianca's time-travelling and accepted it. But when it came to Harry, he distrusted him---possibly because this Harry went from being a squib to someone with power; it was no longer really "their" Harry Potter; if the squib had time-travelled he probably would've accepted it.

Granted, he might've relocated him or obliviated him to secure information held by somebody without the magic to defend themself--and who HAD been kidnapped by Death Eaters in an alternate future--but he wouldn't have banished him.

In short; I think the Catharsis Dumbledore just said what he said to get more support for his actions. As to exactly why he was so opposed to Harry... we'll probably never know.

 

A tad bit shorter than the other chapters but great none less. Now keep writing. Obsessive Lily is :awesome

 

We might. With the development of Sirius, the Malfoys, the Greengrasses, Jamie, Tonks, and Dumbledore, I think it would be a shame if we didn't at some point go back to the old dimension. It was very rich and seemed to promise us more. I suppose we'll see, but I wouldn't count it out yet.

The intrigue and mystery that you have woven into this is enthralling I must admit.

I honestly think that this is my favorite of all your stories. (I also may of said this before, but I cannot remember)

 

I'm only hoping the slow breakdown of Harry being Bianca's sister in her mind is a deliberate path to sum H/Bianca

 

I think they "bodyjack" only if their counterparts existed as well... I mean at the end Lily isnt exactly playing with a full set a marbles amirite?

 

Amazing story, amazing read...amazing just in general. I love how you turned the public against Dumbledore even though this time...his reasons were actually valid...Im reading the sequel now, and Im glad you've retained the writing style that you used in the first arc. Can't wait to see where you take this!

This actually had a good twist. I was kind of surprised, which is rare for a fanfic story these days.

There are some great dialogues bits here, but I liked the inner thoughts part best - insight into competency - a welcome change.

There was also a very nice smooth flow to this chapter, which was actually a real improvement from the last one. It just "read" easily, I guess. The bits with learning about Jamie were also nice too - provided some nice backstory into a somewhat unknown character. I don't really have anything negative to say, although I'm holding my breath of the Manipulative!Dumbledores(Pluralz!!!!!!) and hoping it doesn't go to cliched territory (like that thread).
