I didn't see a thread on this anywhere.

I haven't gotten it yet but I've youtubed and googled my way into already knowing what happens.

    So, is it worth buying?

From what I hear its rather boring, the characters are hard to care about, and SPOILER ----------------

You die in the end no matter what you do.

    END SPOILER==================================

Its seems to me that its more like an expansion pack then a sequel.

    Please give your opinions.

Also, should I buy it or wait 6 months for it to be in the $30 rack at walmart?

Who the fuck cares too much if the characters are boring as long as the action and difficulty makes it worthwhile? I'll have no problems with it so long as that and the story is good.

Also, like Jon said. You're a fucking retard.

I wondered when someone would start a Bioshock 2 thread. I was pleasantly surprised when my SE copy arrived on Tuesday, since I didn't pay for it to arrive the day it was released.

I thought it was a perfectly good sequel.

The only complaint I've heard (that DOESN'T involve multiplayer) that I believe has even a shade of validity is that Pauper's Drop and Siren Alley are too similar, where in the original game each area was distinct. Really, Pauper's drop is a slum with a lot of shitty housing and a diner, a pawn shop and a few other businesses, where Siren Alley is mostly bars, whorehouses and other businesses.

Their similarities are mostly that they're both run down slums with cramped buildings and lots of Z-axis, multilevel areas where you can be attacked from above or below.

I thought the gradual revelation of Subject Delta's origins and the story behind his designated 'Little Sister' were interesting.

People have complained that Sofia Lamb isn't a good villain compared to Andrew Ryan, but not only do I think that's BS, they seem to forget that Ryan wasn't the only major villain in the first game.

Lamb is villain enough to take up the slack for both of the first game's antagonists. Worse, she's someone who believes she's doing the right thing for the greater good (*cough* Dumbledore *cough*), which is always dangerous.

Then there is a supporting cast of characters, both good and bad who either try to kill you or help you, and it's not always the bad ones doing the killing. Grace, in particular, (who seems to incite wave after wave of enemies to attack you) has her own little story that connects to the main characters.

The action can be a bit intense now that Hacking no longer freezes the combat while taking you to a subgame, and since you can use your firearms and plasmids at the same time, not to mention multiple types of ammo and plasmids that act differently if you charge them up, there is a lot to keep track of at once.

Even more so when you're doing all that while protecting an ADAM gathering little sister from waves of attacking Splicers.

The weapons are cool, with rocket spears being more fun than should be allowed.

The Little Sisters even make funny comments while you carry them around. I upgraded a weapon while one was with me and she gleefully exclaimed "Even Daddy's toys have toys!"

One also mentioned how a Splicer was "Dancing" when I electrocuted him. :)

Eleanor kicks fucking ass. She really has a protective streak where you're concerned. "This one died cold and alone. Stay out of our way or you'll do the same!"

And the part of the game where you play as a Little Sister and see first hand how they view the world was pretty cool.
The replay value, while lessened once you know the secrets behind the plot, is increased by the number of Plasmids, Gene Tonics, etc. that you can get and the many combinations you can equip them in. I played through without ever getting the Swarm, Winter Blast, Scout, or Geyser Trap plasmids, and others. That's not even touching the sheer number of Gene Tonics I couldn't get.

Also there are certain rewards for using the research camera that I wasn't able to get during my first run through. And, of course, there are different endings one can get...

An interesting change from the first game: If you've already found an audio diary or similar clue that tells you the pass-code for a lock, the game displays the code when you attempt to open the lock, rather than making you go back through all of your tapes.

I got BS2 a few days back. Haven't gotten too far into the game. It's seems pretty good so far though.

I mean naturally some aspects will seem a little like 'I already know this, or 'been there done that' if you've already played the original Bioshock but the new areas of Rapture you can discover, the backstory and some new game mechanics means that it's worth getting in my opinion.

Pretty fun, definitely an improvement from its predecessor with the dual wielding and more weapons and shiz. Nothing revolutionary though, same old bioshock theme and graphics. On another note this game makes me dizzy as fuck after awhile, the FOV is just horrible for widescreen.

My brother has yet to emerge from his room since his copy got here, so I assume it is pretty good.

The game feels somewhat short, but it leaves you wanting more like a good game should rather than leaving you unsatisfied. You have the option to turn off Vita-Chambers if you want it to be more challenging. Drill-dash is tons of fun. The new research system is pretty good. Seems to progress a lot faster than in the first game so long as you keep your killing methods fresh for each splicer. The new plasmids and their evolutions are interesting and useful, rather than in the first game where they just packed more of a punch or lasted longer. Taking away categories for gene tonics was a good move, so you can get just about any combination of tonics you want so long as you have the space.

And the Little Sisters are so adorable. :3

    "Nobody hurts my daddy!"

"Daddy! You always save me from the monsters..."

    "Ooh, marshmallows!"

However, textures can take a while to load when you first start a save file, and some character models look a little bit dated. I'm not terribly concerned with graphics, so this didn't bother me as much. Just go in expecting some graphical issues.

If you could run the first one, you should be able to run this one. Er, at least I think so. Then again, my current mobo/CPU/Video card were purchased after the first Bioshock had been out a while.

I think I've gotten all the Achievements that don't involve multiplayer. Fun stuff. Never have used Vita Chambers. I'm no hardcore gamer, but both Bioshock games would be too easy using those.

Edit: I have no money to waste, and yet I am seriously tempted to buy a replica Eve syringe.

    So, yeah, just finished it.

Awesome story, I want more, the ending, despite douchie Mcdouchington ruining I still was mildly surprised at, having brain bleached this thread from my mind.

    Lesse.

    1. Winter Blast + Phostorous Shot gets you TONS of points.

    2. Winter Blast, Fully upgraded Drill, and Freeze Drill is the sex. I crushed EVERYTHING with it. EVERYTHING.

3.. the ending.. as I said, didn't see it coming. I wasn't sure how I felt about it in the end, I'm still not, I only finished the game ten minutes ago.

I loved the hell out of it, including the endings. The only complaint I have is that there's not enough Power To The People stations to upgrade all your guns, and that the level three charge-up plasmids aren't worth the ADAM.

Ya I beat this a day or two ago, I'm replaying simply for the fact that I've yet to come down off my epic game high.

    Weapons were awesome.

I liked what they did with the plasmids.

I was on the PC version so I didn't notice any graphical errors, I read a review that seemed to imply most of that was on consoles. But you could certainly make out just how bad ADAM abuse fucks with the human body, which was different from the first, where I never seemed to get a good look at the freaks. I particularly liked that the first thing you see in the game is that sign that says
    Fallen, Fallen is Babylon!
    that was so....poetic...

As for the story and characters. Well....

I loved both. I was kinda annoyed by game critics who were going on about the story being sub par and and not as epic as the first game. I would like to point out that this game wasn't meant to have an epic story like the first did in the first place. In fact I have my suspicions that this whole game was a set up for introducing Elenore. We already have confirmation that 2K is planing another game, and maybe another after that. Add on top of that is...well...this game felt kinda like it was happening off to the side. Tenenbaum was there only for the beginning and seemed to have business elsewhere in the city. To top that off most of the fighting happens in the old parts of Rapture. Hell the only places of true significance to Rapture that you visit are all at the end, Fontaine Futuristics and on. The rest was slums and like. It wouldn't surprise if the next game takes place around the same time as the second but somewhere else in the city!

As for characters...I went for the goody good ending, there are like four of them depending on the combo of killing/saving of NPCs and Little Sisters you do, and I have to say I liked Elenore very much. It should also be noted that in some ways your character didn't die. In fact in some ways Sofia Lamb succeeded in her vision of creating a Utopian, she was just pissed all to hell that you messed with the mental aspects. After all Elenore wasn't supposed to have a concept of self, which is what you gave her. I hope to see more of her in future sequels.

Lamb was...interesting. I can see where they were going when they sat down to think her up. In some ways she is the complete opposite of Ryan. But just like said departed tyrant her outlook on life is horribly flawed. Both she and Andrew have very admirable traits, the former was her wish to do good, the latter had a thirst of innovation and progress and the willpower needed to see it through. But both are horribly, horribly corrupt. Not to mention hypocritical! For all his talk of no big government the moment his power started to slip Andrew became the very thing he despised, and Lamb's beliefs about removing the self from the equation didn't seem the factor into her decision that SHE was the one would create paradise. Overall I liked her as a villain. From the first time I saw her I wanted to beat her smug little face right in.

I also liked how everything felt....tired. From the atmosphere, to the video logs and there pictures just reeked of exhaustion. It made you feel as if Rapture was tired of living and just wanted to die. It brought the city to life in an excellent way.

This line of games is so much more good and epic them system shock could ever dream of being.

I'm currently on my 4th playthrough. Winter Blast is a total gamebreaker. The research camera seems to love it for some reason. I have to admit, though, it's fun using a splicer hit with Level 2 Winter Blast as a wrecking ball. Security Command is pretty cool once you get the related tonics (I shall never forget you, Blinky. You were a trooper).

    Insect Swarm is hilarious.

The Drill Specialist Tonic sounds pretty cool, but it can be a pain in the ass once you run out of drill fuel. It's good if you want to do a self-imposed challenge, but the EVE saving part doesn't make up for the lack of weapons in a pinch. You can find EVE hypos often enough.

The moral-choices bit is somewhat improved this time around. Saving or Harvesting the Little Sister's ultimately only has a difference of 280 ADAM by the end-game, and that's "just gravy", so the only reason to Harvest is because you're a dick. Choosing whether or not to spare the NPCs is a lot more interesting, though. Their backgrounds and relationships to you and a certain someone give you plenty of reasons to spare them and to kill them.

Installed it, playing it, at Dionysus atm. Bored. The trap setting is tedious as fuck, the spider slicers walk right through them, and they pretty much get ignored by the brutes. It's not hard hard, but they're not as strong as they should be for all the time it takes to set traps.

Insect Swarm is pretty much instant enemy finder, I spam it when I enter a room and it wrecks.

Story leaves me very uninterested. Atmosphere is top notch as before, but the people are just very uninteresting. The diary recordings are more entertaining.

PC version = bugs bugs bugs bugs omfg game breaking bugs. Patch fixes some, but my plasmid hand keeps vanishing.
