I would read it but... I'm a total pairing whore. HP/HG makes me sick.

Didn't I just get done issuing a general warning about bashing a story or bitching about it without reading it?

C'mon folks, we're trying to project the image of a site that's brutally honest, but not asshats when it comes to fics.

No, not that I've noticed. And eh, my pairing preferences are such that I will instinctively hate a story that sails a ship that I dislike. That is being brutally honest, at least from my point of view. I'm not even willing to give H/G or H/Hr stories a chance the vast majority of the time. Those pairings revolt me and I refuse to subject myself to reading them. Guilty as charged if that makes me an 'asshat.' But I will stop commenting on how I hate them at every opportunity for the sake of conformity.

My fault, I wrote that as a general warning without flat out saying it, I just assumed folks would infer the point behind it.

Feel free to bash the pairing in a story all you like, all that's asked is to be fair about it by at least reading it. I'll certainly not stop ripping a absolute crap story to shreds when it's really bad, but I've stopped alltogether giving a story bad marks just becuse of the pairing. There's simply not enough even halfway decent fics anymore to segregate so many of them, simply on who Harry bones in them.

Random rabid foaming at the mouth hate for a great majority of the community was fine when we were small, but we're hitting our stride, and with Patronus almost ready to launch, if LR follows through and loosely links the site to these forums, we don't want to piss off a great deal of the authors b/c we're veiwed as ship nazis.

I do understand your POV, but my solution to the problem has just been to find fics to read in other fandoms, or find other ways to occupy my time. I'm not going to suffer myself to read something I actively dislike out of some twisted sense of desperation. When a restaurant serves nothing but spoiled food, I stand up and find somewhere else to eat rather than stomaching it. Really my own stories are the only things keeping my tied to the Harry Potter fandom at all at this point. All of my own favorite fics have seemingly been abandoned, with a few notable exceptions.

It's a pretty decent story, but I have to say the Mystery was (in my opinion) easy to figure out.

Eh, fair enough. No grammar mistakes at least. But I really don't like when authors just throw a Yule Ball in the story. That's thrown only when there is a Triwizard Tournament. Oh and I think all of you have to see this:

ROFLMFAO...hahahaha. The author was actually being serious.

This was...alright, I suppose. It deserves its spot in the recycling bin.

It's partly an H/Hr romance, and though I generally like that pairing, the relationship here is just dull.

The main plot, if you can call it that, involves Harry inheriting an old manor house from a wizarding relative on his mother's side. A relative in the 18th century had been working on a way to meld magic and science, and Harry conveniently discovers the old man's notes and decides to complete his work.

There's a villain lurking in the background, but there wasn't enough conflict here to interest me. Voldemort is already dead in this story, and much of its content is pointless, mundane dialogue between Harry, Hermione, Neville, Ron, and Ginny.

    3/5 - well-written but boring

I couldn't get past the first chapter. It's not that it's badly written but if Harry and Hermione are gonna be together I generally don't like it when Harry is a pussbag/wineass. That type of Harry should be reserved for Harry/Ginny fics.
Cause I don't imagine Hermione being the type of person to deal with a wineass type of guy that can't figure out his feelings and tell her before she leaves for Schooling/Work. But otherwise it's put together well in the first chapter but like i said i can't get past the first one with out wanting to pull my eyes out. sorry

Not realy the best H/HG stories I've read have been where Harry's not so much of a pussy footer when it comes to his feelings. I mean I can understand some hesitation but come on waiting until the woman you love walks out of your life for a period of time to relise what your feelings are is almost to cliche now-a-days in alot of Harry Potter fanfics.
