I wonder if anybody didn't see Aizen in possession of the MacGuffin coming? Seriously, I saw this coming from a mile away.

If I remember correctly, Kisuke said somewhere that even he didn't know the full extent of the Hogyoku's power, and Aizen appears to be treating it as a sentient organism...

 

Alright seeing as Aizen's more intelligent then 'I made you stronger for the lulz' I'm guessing Aizen's Spriti King Key thing has something to do with Ichigo. Either the power is focused into Ichigo and he becomes the key (stronger so he doesn't get destroyed by the sudden power-influx) or they read the texts wrong/were tricked by Aizen into believing what the key actually was. Karakura Town (that one special place on Earth) isn't the key, it's where the key 'exists' aka Ichigo. Ichigo is the Key basically.
