My only minor point of sadness was that, from what I've gotten the gist of, Harry is becoming "too good." It was similar with Tavi, really; both started as characters with little skill, maybe a handful of perks and opportunities, but none outright exposed. And then they grow. And keep growing, until they can really break loose.

For Tavi, he finally developed furies; for Dresden it was different. He always "had" the opportunity to be awesome, but never used it - and I liked that. He had the chance to be Marcone's man, truly pick up the coin, take the mantle of the Winter Knight, work with the Raiths, or delve into necromancy, but he never did. I always thought of it as a distinguishing point.

Also, breaking his back...I'm sure it was more powerful in the books, but through a spoiler, it felt like a downer.

From Amazon.com? Release date on the Kindle edition says April 6th, how are you getting it tomorrow? Do want.

 

I think its cause of country. I bought it in India and they are releasing it here on 1st April. I think its only US where Kindle is being released on 6th.

Also the book itself is going to be delivered on 6th hence I think its only the ebook which has this difference.

 

EDIT: You mean like your computer signature is India? So if I went through a VPN of india i'd get it tomorrow? Or is there a amazon.india?!?

 

Amazon probably sets the zone when you buy it. Sort of like DVDs that are zone-locked. Just speculating...

 

Might want to try https://www.booksonboard.co.uk. I live in the US, but registered as a UK resident and payed via paypal checking account. Transaction went through just fine and I expect the download at midnight on April 1st.

 

Why not release it in North America first? Butcher is from the US. WHY torture us like this?

 

Apparently that was the plan. There are conflicting release dates, but from what I can see the original dates were as follows:

USA/North American release date; April 6th, 2010
UK/EU release date April 8th, 2010

However it seems that stores shelved & sold the series early for some reason, mainly outside the US. I can only assume that it's because of this that the release date has been pushed up for at least the UK to April 1st.

 

Annyoing that people have already read it... so I just decided to skip ahead to the last page after people said they'd read it, not read any posts, highlight any spoiler tags & just post in here...

Damn Amazon UK for not shipping mine untill April 10th. Damn them heartily. Untill then, I'm re-reading the Series for possible links & such, thus far I've come up with a few continuity errors & fallen back in love with Butchers description & thus characterisation of people.

Examples; Molly, Murphy, Marcone & any of the Fae.

 

I'm in Calgary right now - I went into an Indigo store yesterday to look for the book, and naturally, they didn't havve it. So, I checked their internal catalogue, and of the the 20 or so Chapters/Indigo/Coles stores in the city, exactly two had it stocked - the largest and the smallest stores in the city, oddly enough. As of this morning, I'm halfway through and both loving and hating it - for those who have read up to about page 242 or so, you probably know why I'm conflicted.

A word-intensive way of saying, if you still don't have it, try smaller stores - less storage area in the back, no 'corporate' breathing down their necks, might equal new books on the shelves sooner.

 

Since I don't know how to do the spoiler bit, I'm just going to ask this...
Why has no one mentioned what happens right at the VERY end of the book? I think it's kind of important... thoughts/ideas on that?

I can confirm that it works fine. I'm looking at my copy right now (wrapped in shitty adobe DRM, but I'll just redownload a html copy later).

They wanted to confirm my regional status by having me input the address I currently "resided at". I got an address off google maps for what looked like a shopping district and supplied that. The store did not confirm my details against those provided by my paypal account, nor by my bank account/CC linked with the paypal and used to fund it.

So now I'm off to read .
