Basically, a Harry/Daphne that hits back at the cliches of the pairing. Daphne here is an emotionally stunted girl, average-looking at best, and a below average witch. It's not something I'd want to see often, but it was good too see once.

Technically sound insofar as the grammar is concerned. There were a few moments that caught be by surprise and made me smile. However, obsessive narrative bashing, a lack of connect as to how this Harry became slightly more jaded and harsh (not something I disagree with, but the transformation needs more explanation) and all in all just a general sense of... not quite there. A nice time waster and a good idea, but not worthy of the library.

 

I actually rather liked it. Better than the OMG Daphne is so hot but she is super cold, only in public. Here she was just an average girl who had school problems. She wasn't every teenage boy's fantasy character. Thats what I liked. The ending was abit rushed though.

 

I rather liked it too. It's just not quite up to par for DLP library. Definately up at the 'almost average' end of things as opposed to barely readable.

 

Basic Summary: Harry got sorted into Slytherin. This fic takes place after his second year, where he lost his only Friend, Ginny, to the Basilisk and is now back to the Dursleys.

It's beautifully written and an interesting start. If the author continues with the same amount of style it would be good enough to be posted "For Review".
That and I simply love 1st person fics.

 

I liked it as well. I'm not sure if his other fic is already here, but The Obligatory Marriage Law Fic is about the same quality. It's got absolutely zero romance, just to preempt any concerns. I thought it was pretty good, all in all. Nothing original, but good enough to be posted here.

 

I was thinking of putting that on. It was pretty funny. My favorite part being when the ministry got suspicious they didn't check to see if Harry killed them. Only to see if he was cursed.

 

The ice princess story was superb, very unique story in HP fan fiction and extremely entertaining.

However the murders were unrealistic. Snape is far too skilled of a wizard to die from a schoolboy's expelliarmus, and probably has better control due to his occlumency skill as well. This is not a fan boyish thing to say, just stating the facts.

So 3/5 for Ice Princess

 

Snake and Voldemort. 'nuff said.

 

But you have to admit Voldemort is a far cry from a school boy. Also, the whole of DH was so underwhelming and pathetic there aren't words to describe it.

I liked reading Ice Princess. Completely flat and meaningless, but it helped pass the time nicely.

 

Snape is competent, but I can still see him being taken down this way. Harry had apparently managed to learn Occlumency somehow, so Snape couldn't see his spells beforehand like in HBP, not to mention that Harry had surprise and preparedness on his side.

Snape rising to Harry's bate and attempting to cast Sectumsempra is another matter entirely.

If you accept the universe Ice Princess is set in at face value, it might deserve a rating rounded up to four stars. But the author made the wizarding society a hell of a lot more fucked up than necessary. Something he's not alone in doing, but that can't change the facts.

Still one of my favourite Harry/Daphne one-shots though, even if it doesn't come close to the quality of Intoxication.

I like cats, but the problem with cats is they have claws, and in a way bad fan fic stories have claws too. Imaginary claws that scratch out valuable time that I should spend studying for final exams.

Didn't like Ice Princess, Daphne seemed like she was mentally retarded. Made the whole 'romance' too weird for me.

That Harry and Vernon on good terms story is pretty good - definitely worth a look for y'all that may be skipping over it. I'd like to see that particular Harry through seven years of Hogwarts.

 

I can get into the idea of Harry with a Dain Bramaged girl. That would probably include girls with tendencies toward insanity as well. Bellatrix, Luna, et al. Maybe Harry/MPD ships also.

Harry needs a good bipolar girlfriend off the Lithium of course.

Ice Princess.

Kinda crappy. Leaving aside the stiff writing, the utterly bland characterizations, the predictable bashing of pretty much every other character, the stupid "I want to have sex with you"s, and the melodramatic and absurd fulcrum for the plot - well, there isn't much left. Besides the title. I liked that.

Ps. If this was supposed to be a caricature, it wasn't a good one.

 

I think it was meant as a tongue-in-cheek take on the whole "Ice Princess" Daphne-Sue trope.

As for unlikely Daphne characterizations, it could be worse--he could have written her as a Cherokee stripper...
