Some first screenshots over at PokeBeach.com. Probably a small trailer to be revealed later today. Nothing hugely departed from D/P/Pt, but I didn't really expect it to be. Still - a new Pokemon game is a new Pokemon game, complete with pre-game release squeeing over badly scanned screenshots.

I like the sound of Pokemon Black/White
It's kinda like they're trying to relate it to the older games, rather than the newer games, like Ruby, Diamond, etc.

The only thing that really caught me was the huge jump in the quality of the 3D graphics. It looks miles ahead of the last generation.

    pokemon gold/silver + pokemon maker = win.

I usually use the program to get a different starter. eg. A Dratini which is what I start with on everything under FR/LG

Looks like a step towards full 3D. This makes them only a decade behind current graphics, rather than 2 decades. Hurrah.

Yes beause people play pokemon for the amazing graphics. You want state of the art stunning 3-D then go outside and take a walk in the park.

What a stupid argument. Certainly, the central attraction of Pokemon isn't the graphics (although, if the graphics were drop dead gorgeous, perhaps that'd be less true). But to say that the developers don't have to bother with them - especially when they're so behind the times - because of this is just stupid. A good game is meant to be more than functional - graphics are an important part of a game. Not all of a game, but a part. There's a reason why all game reviews include a section on graphics.

Stop being such a fanboy and take a step back. Improving the graphics to modern standards - even basic modern standards - would doubtless improve the game (that is to say, make it more enjoyable).

The Pokemon games are fun. But it can't be denied that, looking at the franchise, the developers of Pokemon are pretty much the laziest and least innovative game developers in the industry.

I think if Nintendo brought Pokemon up to the best graphics of today I'd fucking hate it. There would be almost no possible way to fit my nostalgia glasses on.

Also, fucking lawl Pokemon. It's been almost two years since I've been able to play it online, and by now I've forgotten how to play competitively (no wifi either). I just want a Flygon and a Chatot, and I'm happy.

The thing is that this isn't truly aimed towards a more mature crowd. They still have Pokemon showing every Saturday, and all that jazz. It's meant for kids, and kids will be impressed just to have the ability to say, "I choose you, Pikachu!" Of course graphics matter, but when you're aiming for children, it's not necessary to pump in massive amounts of time to create a realistic environment.

So long as they continue to make these miniature friendly Pokemon, and continue to give them flashy attacks, and a semi-difficult time in completing the game, the aimed for buyers will be completely happy. We may be dissapointed, but that's hardly anything to worry about anyways. We're Pokefans, we'll keep on playing and making a laundry list of improvements to send with each game hoping they'll do it.

It won't happen until the cartoon dies off, cuz then we'll be the only fans left. Just gotta wait.

In another note. Dragon/Eevee is much needed. Also, they should work on more contradictory elemental combinations. A water/fire type would be interesting enough to see. Hmm, a non legendary Ghost/Dragon would be nice as well.

Yes because if someone disagrees with Taure they're automatically stupid. Improving the graphics doesn't improve the gameplay.

    [IMG] VS [IMG]

Which actually looks better? The old version. The one with shitty graphics. Just because you have an inflated ego and an opinion on everything doesn't make you constantly right.

No, it doesn't, nor did I ever say it does. But it does improve the game. Game =/= gameplay. If all you cared about was game dynamics, then you might as well use paper and dice. Stop taking things so personally and be sensible. Graphics, sound, story, characters, etc. are all important elements of a game, as well as gameplay.

Bit of a sneaky argument here, because clearly the older one looks better because it has better artwork, which is unrelated to graphical sophistication. If you kept the old artwork but made the graphics better, then that version would look better than the old.

Why are you being so stubborn about this? I get that you love the Pokemon games, but seriously, take a chill pill. Accepting that the Pokemon games look crap and that the developers are at fault for not putting in the effort to bring them up to standard is uncontroversial.

Truefacts: Once they improved the backsprites from the original red and blue to what they were in yellow, I stopped giving a shit about the graphics of the game. Good enough was good enough.

This. But that's just personal opinion.

Edit: Maybe I wasn't clear. I agree with Taure, but the improvements that Vlad mentioned were sufficient for me personally.

Maybe in Canada. In the states, we tend to like our opinions being facts, OR ELSE!

Graphics are such a "Meh" spot for me, I don't even. As long as I can see and understand what's going on and all that, colour me satisfied.
