This could be a good idea, if done well (Which means doing exactly the opposite of what George Lucas did)

A prequel series could be pretty epic, imo. Rowling never really covered the First War, so that could be a potential topic. The whole Dumbledore vs Grindelwald thing is another topic that could be explored.

Personally, I'm hoping for a prequel about Tom Riddle, and how he became Voldemort. I think that the books always portrayed him as a two dimensional villain, so It'd be interesting to read about his rise to power.

Just think about how badass this book could be.

There's no chance she'll write about Tom Riddle, to dark for her.

I hate prequels, so I really hope she doesn't write about the generation before. I doubt she will though, as it ends in tragedy for almost all involved.

Slim chance she writes an AU Harry Potter story, with Harry being sorted into Slytherin or something.

No, I bet she'd go the obvious route and write about Albus Severus or a different Harry Potter offspring. It'll be lame.

That occurred to me. It could be interesting, as long as it's not all about How Lily Fell In Love With James. Or a total whitewash of Snape.

My money is still on her doing next generation stories, though.

Old Hag's (aka Jo) is just saying that she'll be writing extra books to garnish more publicity and more money. Don't believe her.

If she really wanted to write more Harry adventures, she should have made the Harry Potter series like the Sweet Valley High or Baby Sitters' Club and Nancy Drew series. A neverending series that won't be dying for a long, long time.

    Cheers,
    Mary

If it's next generation (assuming she writes some more), that would basically be all that she would be able to do. I mean, what conflict can be plausibly solved by kids when their parents are heroes of the Wizarding World?

    Not many.

If it's done, I'm hoping for an AU rehash.

I'm pretty sure this is how Harry Potter solves crime. "I'm Harry Fucking Potter. I killed the worst dark lord of all time with a goddamn disarming charm. Do you really want to resist arrest?" Aaaaand, "I know what you are thinking: Did he grab the elder wand or one of those joke wands from the WWW. Well, in all this excitement I can't be too sure myself. But seeing as how this might be the elder wand, the most powerful wand ever crafted. You gotta ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

    Harry/Lily/Lily would be epic!

On topic: A Magical Detective novel with the feel of the first few books might prove at least somewhat entertaining.

Canon didn't change the status quo of the Wizarding World, so a story about a revolutionary might work well also.

While I am all for Marauder's Era books, didn't she say like multiple times that she would never, ever write those books? IIRC, she said that this short story would be the only piece of work about that time.

    I thought you'd only ship 5YearOld!Submissive!Harry/35YearOld!Rapist!Bellatrix?

Back on topic: JKR already spread a lot of rumours about the lexicon, other novels, detective stories, mystery, etc., which she said she'd publish under a pseudonym.

If she really enjoys writing, then she certainly is working on something - even if it is "just" another charity book.

I'd like to see some of the drafts she wrote for HP, i.e. the first version of the epilogue, her thoughts on the "Knights of Walpurgis" etc. She already indicated that the last books had been influenced by the fanbase (Arthur surviving the attack; OBHWF), so I'd really like to see what she might have written without that.

    Hehe.

    There's one that's not related?

Heh, back in the stone age here, I posted something about having an idea for a Harry/femme!Harry story. I then mentioned that I also had an idea for Harry/Lily and joked that if I combined the two ideas, because of the plot device I used to bring Lily back from the dead, it would necessarily result in an AU!Lily showing up with the AU!(girl)Harry.

This would have the effect of automatically making the story Harry/Lily Potter/femme!Harry/Lily Potter.

    *Head Asplode*

Of course, unless one pushed the timeline waaay past the epilogue and pulled some really heinous deus ex dickery, you couldn't feasibly make it H/LEP/LLP/femme!Harry/LEP/LLP, as there's no excuse for a second Lily Luna Potter showing up (within the scope of that particular plot device).

Also, it would require either Harry dumping his Weasley Wife or the author killing her off... unless she were added to the ship of a thousand redheads.

Plus that pairing would be overkill.

    And wrong.

    So very wrong...

But I thought I'd put that thought out there to watch some people's brains melt.

If JKR did something like what Orson Scott Card did with "Ender's Shadow," it could work-- Neville's perspective would be my choice.

I would lol so hard if she did that.

Back to slightly on topic, I would definitely read a book she wrote about either the Grindewald era, or one on Tom Riddle, as long as she decides to read JBern's To Fight The Coming Darkness first. His Voldemort was epic.

If she writes a next gen fic, I'll read the last page in the book store. If there's anything about ASP I'll buy just to burn it.

This. Although, if Rowling did go this route, it'd probably be about Snape, or even Draco

I just though of a way she could fuck even this up even more: Pull a double Lucas, writing a prequel trilogy about Dumbledore, where he finds out that magic is caused by little living organisms in your cells called chlori-midians.

A book about the Four Founders and the creation of Wizard society would be pretty epic too. If one of the founders were the main character, she'd have to make him/her competent and powerful.
