So...yeah I've got ads above my current page popping up. Before that started I had Adblok plus installed and after a while the space for the ads appeared but it was blank. Then i had to block ads in the same sites again and again. And finally I uninstalled the Adblok and now ads are appearing above the page I've got open. Even DLP. I open the page, it appears and a couple of seconds later reloads, everything goes down and the ads are at the top.

A couple of times the whole page becomes an ad. You know, like in fanfiction.net where you have to click "skip this ad". I mean it's starting to get worse and I'm afraid it's going to do something worse to my pc.

Any suggestions? I've got malwarebytes and avg and they haven't detected anything.

 

Are these secondary windows appearing above the browser page, or banners?

If it's the former, you've likely picked up a trojan browser-hijacker and need to clean it off. If it's banners, you may have installed a 'helpful' toolbar along with some other app that is feeding this stuff. Use Control Panel to view installed apps- remove any 'Toolbar' that you don't have a specific reason to keep. Common suspects are 'Ask', 'Google', 'Yahoo', 'Smartbar', 'AOL/AIM', 'Bing' and 'Dogpile'

Also, most apps work better when applied actively- if your system is acting buggy, launch your AVG and Malwarebytes and actively scan the system for intrusion. Usually this will prompt you to catch up on forgotten updates and may also show that the app has been blocked from protecting when you find you suddenly can't launch it as expected.

 

Banners. That's the word I was looking for. Anyway, tried scanning, nothing. I lust re-installed adblok and it seems to be working. I think firefox was opening ads from the blocked list when I removed it. I hadn't deleted the hdd files, just uninstalled it.

Anyway thanks for trying, it seems to be ok now with adblok again.

Not as good as Adblock + (The default one.). I had to install a separate ad blocker on Opera for it to be as efficient. Though i gotta admit it is faster than firefox, too bad it doesn't have the Firefox addons.

Lol, seems like somebody really likes Opera. In fact that is exactly what i did, using a good urlfilter. I was just saying that Opera does not have the many Firefox exclusive addons which is the only reason people use Firefox, also ease of use. I don't really care if Opera loads 5 seconds faster, though i use it sometimes when i don't like waiting for Firefox's startup times.

 

Use firefox. Other browsers are less secure.

 

Well it is in the case of IE, but maybe not Oprah or Safari. I'm always using Firefox. I hardly ever use IE.

 

How secure is Oprah? I don't know which option terrifies me more.

I would use Opera more but it looks weird on OS X. As it is I switch off randomly between Chrome, Chromium, Firefox, Opera, and Safari (and very occasionally Camino). I'm a freak, I know.
