At this point, I don't think it's a good idea to throw out all of the non DLP Library fics in PC. Unless...maybe Raven could make a separate PC archive for Library fics? Or we could just give a special tag to those fics.

And the Library and WbA sections should definitely stay! They are and should remain centerpoints of the DLP experience. With some modifications for WbA, of course.

This. It's why I'm here. Getting rid of it or shifting the focus away from it would more or less remove my reason for being here. I'm just not invested enough in other fandoms.

Also, I want DLP to stay named DLP :| Make it part of something bigger for all I care (i.e. a sub-site), as long as I can has my DLP >_>

Seriously. You not gonna throw a trademark away, are you?

Anything that would require or even imply periodic updates - blogs and articles and suchlike - would be doomed to fail. Doing something once would be fun, doing it twice would be alright for the sake of DLP, but by the third time you're not really feeling it any more and it just feels like work. And that just leads to people reluctant to visit DLP because they didn't chip in for the last issue of DLPZINE or whatever and don't want to catch the guilt-trip.

Articles and shit might be a good idea, but blogs? What the fuck for? We have a forum. Might as well be a billion of them here.

Honestly, I'd like to try to do some kind of Podcast type thing. Maybe a bi-weekly or a monthly kind of thing. Well scratch that. I want to do a section on a podcast called "Porners Corner" whereupon we get people to read shitty smut to our defecated listeners!

    Edit:

Id buy if the design was right. >_>

What Sesc and Tehan just said.

Also, Library clean-up is nice and all, but it's work. It can be a month long project, and we might manage to get people motivated, but I don't see how it's anything else than a clean-up.

I'm enthusiastic about DLP awards, but that's not going to be something new.

    I'll buy the shirt :p.

The Library clean-up may be work...but it needs to be done. Honestly, there's way too much old crap there. On the other hand, it could be slightly more long-term; perhaps we could do "Humor/Parody" week or something. Maybe multiple weeks for bigger categories.

There a lots of potential blogs on the site in the way of threads, so I don't see that as the main focus for advancement. Threads offering support on building a computer from scratch, the merits of the iPad and Jon's photoshop tutorials are great examples of how the thread system works great.

However I like Taure's Peer Review idea and the idea of some of the highly qualified and academic members of the site being given a clearer medium to post intelligent thought.

If Google extend Google Wave to be implemented on websites, it could be quite a neat addition for pooling notes and thoughts on any group work that users might like to do. For Example:
    Oh, and a Philosophy sub-forum.

I think that people shouldn't overestimate the move away from HP fanfiction. A lot of our older members have now moved away from it, but you've got to remember that the highly visible members of DLP represent the tip of the iceberg. I'd be willing to bet that at least 75% of this site's traffic is still for HP fanfiction.

With regards to regular updates: agreed with Tehan that this would put contributors off. However, I disagree with him in that I don't think that this means we can't do articles/reviews/etc. It just means that submission would be on a casual basis.

With regards to the Journal idea, it would be something like 2 a year, so there's no massive pressure. I have a few things I could submit to get it started, and I'm sure other people do too. There'd need to be a team of editors to decide what gets in and what doesn't, and a reasonably large pool of anonymous reviewers to read the articles and judge their worthiness, recommending improvements and revisions and informing the editors of their opinions on the article.

But the Journal idea would be further away. We'd have to establish a good group of readers first.

    Since we're brainstorming:

    - Expansion of the social networking side of the site.
    - IRL meets.

That is a very interesting question, Raven.

I remember joining up on DLP ages ago. According to the almighty founder of DLP (may his beneficent wings flap upon you and bless you)*, this site has been up since March 2005. 5 years. The question is: what can we do to make it last enough 5?

*Idea! We could create a DLP religion and apply for tax-exemption status. It would totally solve all the monthly bill problems!

Personally, I don't think focusing on Harry Potter fanfiction will cut it. Interest in it has already faded and it'll only get worse. I'm not saying that it will stop- I don't think HP Fanfic will ever die- but, frankly, how many of us will keep coming here on that basis? There are a lot of the more known members (and all of IRC) who have a personal/social investment in the site but I'm willing to bet that there are many more that don't. How long until they become sick of HP fanfiction?

We need to focus on something else.

There's been plenty of ideas posted here and I won't repeat them (or add anything since fucked if I know). What I do approve of is changing DLPs name. Keep the acronym, because it's pretty awesome, but I think we should change it to something else. Let's face it. In five years time, how many of us will admit that we visit a Harry Potter Fanfiction Forum for our social/whatever needs?

We also need RL meet-ups, Australians especially. Tehan, Anya and myself have bitten the bullet. Jon and Murton need to man the hell up and get down here to Victoria.

How about we turn it into a giant t-shirt company. Seems to be a lot of love for the t-shirt ideas, and expansion is expansion.

Realistically, I'm all for the name change. Something that fits the DLP initials would be best in my mind. I'd like if it were a slightly writing-oriented website, with big hints of Harry Potter and Dresden (obviously), but otherwise I'd be cool with any other changes. I notice that Multimedia and Real Life are some of the most active forums, so expending on those would likely be easy.

Also, I second that I thought I had to come and donate .02 cents.

With the name change, we could change the name and rename the Library and WBA sections DarkLordPotter, so we can still use the DLP acronym to refer to that aspect of the forums. That way the new name doesn't have to be constrained by the DLP acronym, which would make finding a decent new name pretty hard.

...yes, we're aware that it's redundant. Get over it already.

I'd suggest an article system with editor review before publish. Make sections, anyone is able to submit an article. That way people can just post shit they feel like. I know many times I've had to piece together information from multiple sources to accomplish a single task. Would be nice to compile it all together and share it with others.

The future of DLP right there. Kill off the HP images. Make the sections of the forum different sections of the website. expand new sections like articles, different forum sections, integrate PC, make new stuff. ??? PROFIT.

Kinda. It'll be something, but not necessarily where DLP goes. My vision is ProjectDLP being more of an extension of DarkLordPotter to allow different things. That way we aren't just some fanfiction forum. ProjectDLP would be more of a portal to bind it all together and some extra.

I really want to see what ideas people have. I was just grabbing a name because we all liked it. I really would like to avoid changing the name of DLP.
