^ Yeah, that's something my reputation can handle.

More content on the front page could be good, stuff like the proposed Hall Of Fame, FAQs, a general introduction, link to PC, ETC.

Flesh the Other Fandoms out more, add discussion places for instance. Check out what fandoms are the most common in the Misc section, and consider opening sub-forums for those.

Some good stuff came out of the "Thank God You're Here!" threads, so planning something a little more epic in scope might work as decent advertisement.

I'm not against the idea of changing our name, as long as the acronym stands. There aren't all that many Dark Lord Potters around here anyway. Articles have some potential also, though keeping that stuff under control might turn out problematic.

I'm a little late here, and to be honest, I haven't read a majority of what's been posted. It's quite possible that everything I'm about to say has already been said, but I do have a few points to make.

I don't think that the name should be changed. I understand that changing the focus from Potter fanfiction to *whatever* should merit a name change, but I think keeping it would be a clever way to make sure that Harry Potter fanfiction never dies. The community doesn't have to revolve around it anymore, but there should always be a library, and thus, there will always be someone trying to make it into the library.

I think that the Multimedia forums should be expanded. Music, Movies, Television, Books should cover the important bases. If we place a larger emphasis on keeping those categories up to date, it will draw more discussion, and more people in the long run. Whereas Harry Potter fiction will die, Rock and Roll will live forever. Holding album, movie, TV show and book reviews will be an excellent help to anyone looking for ways to spend their free time. Imagine a "Music" For Review with links to the music, with title, artist and genre highlighted, as well as a summary that gives a little more information about the band and the album being reviewed.

Also, I think we would all benefit from a simple "What's New?" page that shows the "hottest" threads in the last week, month, year.

That's all I really have to add, though. I wish there was more.

I'd love to see something more done with the Multimedia forums.

I've been in an out of DLP for quite a long time now. I don't hide the website. My family and girlfriend know about it and my girlfriend has even read some the posts/threads on this forum.

First, I'll start off with some of the points already brought up:

Banner: It needs a major facelift. I don't think it has changed since I've been on the forum.

Essay/Work Help Section: I really love this idea. Posting essays to be looked over, helping others etc. This section would need to be for members only, however.

DLP Awards: I like the top 10 list idea without any specific order. This will help the awards no longer be a Shezza/Jbern/Joe sweep.

Social Networking: Yeah, no. Perhaps if you wanna add the ability to share stories n such from this site ON those websites... but I don't think we need to turn this website into a social networking site itself.

Blogs: This could honestly work. Select a group of authors (And yes, even Taure because the storms he stirs up reads for good entertainment) and have at it.

Keeping the Core HP: This is a must. The HP fandom is still very large and is the biggest reason new members come to this website. We need to hook them in with this and keep them here with everything else.

New Fandoms: However, if you wish to hook in members with other fandoms, we'd need to focus some power to the bigger fandoms out there such as Naruto, Dresden and others. New Fandoms should probably be added by vote and be assimilated into the website below the HP forum. We'd then need to attract authors from these fandoms. The authors are what kick starts this forum into life.

    Original Works:
This section needs to be expanded if it already exists and more visible (Does it exist?). Original literature, art, music, video etc would be a nice edition to the website.

The Name: To me, as long as DLP is somehow kept in the name of the website, it doesn't matter what we change our name to. The fanfiction world knows of us as DLP and it needs to stay that way. Names have power that cannot simply be replaced.

    --

As for something to add to this thread... is there a DLP vent/teamspeak or some other? I realize that those things can get hectic with so many people but it would be an interesting feature to have.

Ultimately, we're still a fanfiction website. We need to attract authors here to stay so that they can communicate with their fanbase, respond to reviews easier and discuss their stories. This is the core of DLP and it needs to stay that way.

This, I like. A lot. Also the awards seem to me like a good idea. Both as a writer and reader, it points me towards the best fics in the genre, and that's something completely useful.

This thread reminded me that this site actually has a front page o_O. Fuck I just click automatically to the forums nowadays.

I'd say more RL-related boards, maybe even the majority. DLP is better suited to a SomethingAwful-like forum than fanfic nowadays, but it is heritage and I don't think we should downsize away from that.

Ideas here: http://www.deltabrotherhood.com/ and here: http://www.overclockers.com.au/ for the front page. Articles posted by members, moderated and edited by staff before they are public and have a thread created for comments. News feed style news section with highlights of the forum with interesting threads, current stories up for review in For Review, weekly reccommended fics etc, only have to updade when there is something worth updating.

I guess whilst I agree with this, my only problem is that if I want a SA style forum, I go to SA. Though I suppose a smaller more personal community as currently exists on DLP has its advantages.

DLP: The Fanzine. Could it win a Hugo?

I'm not either of them, but I am one of the older farts here at 42 years of age-- I turn 43 next month. I like the forums because people are passionate about what they like. The emphasis is on fanfiction, but people here have been open about their desires and work toward getting original fiction published, which is cool.

It's because we like the DLP Brand.

Dark Lord Pikachu for Pokemon fanfiction?

    Agreed.

Same here. Maybe the forums should be the front page?

Much as I despise SomethingAwful itself for... uh... "cultural" reasons, this.

(Sorry, but I've meet many a goon who thinks paying ten bucks makes them better than everyone else yet doesn't have the wit to back the arrogance up. Dickless fucking wonders...)

I actually really like this idea, having multimedia up for review could be an incredibly good start to expanding what we do with this forum. I do however think we should start breaking some of the most popular sections, such as TV shows, that needs its own place, maybe just TV Shows, Anime & Movies? Books & Manga and so on?

Hall of Fame beside Hall of Shame seems kinda cool too.

I don't think Banner would appreciate your comment about needing a facelift, or referring to her as an "it".

I agree with a lot of the expansion ideas put forth so far. I can't tell you how many times I've been browsing other sites for my Star Wars, Stargate, or Warhammer fix, and thought to myself, "shit, I wish DLP could focus a bit more on this so I don't have to wade through this shit to find the good stuff". IMO, expanding the Other Fandoms section to put more emphasis on it would be awesome.

Also, I really like the idea of shifting our focus more onto the common room section as a whole. I get the feeling that that is becoming the backbone of the site as interest in HP fanfic slows down.

The name should change, but the acronym stays (there's just something about the way that Dee-ell-pee rolls off the tongue that just feels right). Whatever social networking that goes on should be kept as informal as possible. DLPbook=DO NOT WANT. RL meets could be cool, but it might be a bitch to organize, what with how scattered we are (as far as I know, Raven's the only DLPer within easy driving distance of my house).

    I guess I didn't have a whole lot to add, but there's my $0.02.

My more meaningful suggestion is technical. For the WbA section it might be more helpful to somehow generate a different thread for each chapter of a work in progress, so that the discussion and navigation is both easier and more focused. There'd have to be a way for each story to become it's own sub-forum that way.

I like that this place has both serious discussion and ridiculous parody of humanity in action as part of the forums, so that should be retained. The reason I was drawn here was the higher standard of criticism offered- at some level, that is what makes this place special.

Expanding the multimedia section is an excellent idea, and I would enjoy helping do it. I know I love music , movies, and books and I am sure the majority of the people here do too.

Recommendation pages for each would be a good idea too.

I can't honestly say I have a wealth of ideas left. The majority HP fiction slant to the site went away years ago, and we've become a community of people that like to smack each other around and have fun hanging out, oh and we've got some stories, lol.

The newbies come for the fics, stay and become active members for the people.

DLP? Name change? I'd be against it, there is no more wretched... blah blah. It's our identity. It's changed over the years, but it's still ours.

Sorry Raven, I'm out of ideas that are simple forum based things, I'm kinda tapped out, lol. But the real life oriented stuff seems to of been golden, so blogs of some sort would be cool, maybe not heavy content, but it could generate interest. Multimedia stuff is always awesome.

Plenty of good ideas in here. Maybe try to get a group of folks playing the same games again. TF2 was godly, and I'd love to try to run a Star Wars online DLP guild.

    Edit:

We've got a fine image, lol. Leave the HoS, it's golden as well.

Yeah, I think everyone pretty much agreed to keep DLP. Raven went and got ProjectDLP.net as a second domain for whatever we decide to do... Writing or gaming or otherwise, so is Still DLP. D:

QFT. Shit needs to happen more often. ;-; No Job and too much free time is driving me insane...

    Seconded. D:

DLP is fine the way it is. Fuck making it friendly or family friendly. DLP works because people don't care about personal egos. If it's shit, you're gonna get told its shit.
