    After just watching the last episode I was wondering whether anyone else watched it and what they thought of the ending? Personally I quite liked it, it tied up all the loose ends. And it was certainly better than the Lost ending... I think what made it so great was the soundtrack and the nostalgia (even though I was not alive then)

    I have watched both, the ending of Ashes to Ashes was a much better explanation than the crappy ending of the American version of Life on Mars.

    Although...

    The sap in me kept wanting Alex to stay with Gene at the end, after all Heaven is apparently always waiting, so why not keep him company?
    They say they arnt making another series and even thought hey left an opening for another one, all the mystery have been cleared up so I doubt it is going to happen.

    I didn't know there was another version of Life On Mars besides the one that came out on ABC to be honest and I could never get into that one, just nothing about it caught my interest.

    The ABC one is a American re-make of a very popular British series that came out about a year before it. The generally held opinion is that the UK version is better though I quite liked the ABC one (aside for the crappy ending.)

    Ashes to Ashes is a spin-off set in the 80s, general opinion is that its not quite as good though I enjoyed it immensely.

    I watched the first two episodes of season 3 and so far have been pretty disappointed by it. The only thing that would convince me to stick it out is if Sam "John Simm" Tyler showed up in the flesh. So does he?

    If yes I may watch.

    I loved Life on Mars, but didn't get on with the first series of Ashes to Ashes. Alex Drake annoyed me, and Gene Hunt seemed to be becoming a Gary-Stu. However...I read about the finale, and what finally happened, and I thought that was awesome. So I've spent today watching six episodes of season 3, and I've got to say I'm enjoying it. Impressively, I've actually been able to follow it despite having missed essentially two seasons worth of character development.

    EDIT: haven't seen the American version.

    EDIT2: now finished season 3, thought it was great. Keats was awesome, and the final episode was really rather moving at times. Still not totally convinced by Alex - she was fine for most of the season, but by the end the constant back and forth between trusting Gene/wanting to sleep with him/thinking he was a murderer/not knowing what the hell was going on with him was a little irritiating. But that was fairly minor overall, and the other characters were great. Gene seemed toned down from previous seasons of A2A, which I approved of.

    Loved both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. I tried watching the first two episodes of the American remake and was appalled at how awful it was. Some episodes were copied almost scene for scene (saw ads and bits and pieces as my Dad was watching it), and the actors completely lacked the dynamics of the UK ones.

    The ending was... not unexpected, but still a little surprising. And sad. I'll miss the universe.

    Took me around five or six episodes to start to really enjoy Ashes to Ashes (although the blatant Gene Hunt fanservice at the end of the first episode, where he rides in on a boat, was awesome). I liked Ashes for entirely different reasons all in all.

    However, I was really happy they toned down the dreams/flashes. Second season of Life on Mars really overdid that.

    No, I thought that that should happen too. They were a kind of team in a way. Or Gene could have gone through, but then that doesn't really work with my whole:
    Gene=Ferryman
    Barman=God/ St Peter
    Keats= Devil

    As for the American show, that really did suck with the ending. I never watched it, but someone told me what happened and I was really hoping that wouldn't happen to Ashes to Ashes. I think that the third season was the best, they toned down Alex Drake, and made her slightly less... loud.
