It's new (non-hollow) power-up time for Ichigo! I bet that it works better in Hollow form, though.

 

Did anyone else think there's something off about how Gin is acting? Like maybe he's subtly trying to screw with Aizen's plans?

Hero need to get stronger in quick time? How about place outside of time? Reminds me of Dragon Ball.

 

Considering how pretty much every shounen manga since Dragonball has emulated it in some way it's not really surprising that time dilation devices turn up occasionally. Besides, from the sounds of things staying there isn't really that good of an idea and they're pretty desperate to try it.

 

What's the betting Aizen ends up claiming that he planned for Ichigo to be trained by his dad in the Dangai (time-dilated dimension) all along - which is why he destroyed Koutotsu?

Obviously, he correctly divined that Isshin knows/has some reiatsu or attack more powerful than Ichigo's current abilities and wanted Ichigo to become even stronger than he is...all so that Aizen can eat Ichigo in the end, of course.

Yeah, if anything now was the time for Zangetsu to tell Ichigo "Hey dumbass, did you think you knew everything there is to know about your zanpakuto?" I don't see why Kubo would choose to have Isshin do it when there is a clear precedent for the zanpakuto to reveal its abilities itself.

Try reading it ironically. It's what I do at this point; I mean, really. The chrysalis evolution left Aizen pretty well entirely unchanged except his clothes were replaced, he has black eyes, and a fucking mullet.

I don't think I can read this unironically anymore.

 

It's a weak ass hair change as well. I remember the days of DBZ where an SS3 transformation got you huge hair and gigantic eyebrow ridges. All the manliness disappeared in recent times where power-up transformations involve stylish hair and new clothes.

 

I think one thing thing that can truly be learned from this is "How not to tell a story". Apart from TBTP it's been pretty stale for a while now.

 

New Chapter is up on Mangastream. We finally find out Ichigo's powerup, and it is actually not a huge deus es machina.

 

And what's most interesting is that this is only possible because Aizen is too arrogant. I actually have to hand it to Kubo, that was a believable setup.

This 'move' however, remains to be seen.

I don't really like this sudden idea of the zanpakuto spirit changing when in bankai. I especially don't like this specific change. Zangetsu essentially went from the wise old man to a rebellious young man. "Protect thousands of people? I don't feel like it."

 

So going into his inner world whilst in Bankai is different to going Bankai whilst inside it already? Riiiiiiiight.

I liked the normal Zangetsu he was the standoffish mentor type, the whole emo teenager look doesn't fit him. I hope that the reason he's being so obstinate actually makes sense.
